Brad photographed our wedding, we chose brad based on his portfolio and a brief conversation explaining what we were looking for in a photographer. He exceeded our expectation and we had numerous comments as to him being the "best photographer" they have seen. We must agree Brad was on time and kept in touch through the entire process. He worked well with our videographer ensuring they captured everything we asked for. It is without reservation that we would recommend his services to anyone. Brad is a true professional in his trade and we are thankful to have found him to capture our very special day. Thank you

Joe was the videographer of our wedding ceremony. He was easy and fast to communicate with before the wedding day. The day of the ceremony he arrived on time and found our wedding coordinator easily. He also congratulated us after the ceremony which was very nice of him and unexpected. Joe's prices were very reasonable and he had our video edited and mailed to us in 4 weeks. We love our video and can't wait to watch it in 50 years! Highly recommend! :)

ROF Industries headed up by Nicole Pittman-Staab and Chris Staab are videographers/photographers who created a wonderful presentation of an aerobatic jet flight I participated in over Southern California. They were able to set up numerous cameras, recorded the event from visually interesting angles, provided editing, musical scoring and conducted interviews with the participants in a documentary style video. The quality of the work was outstanding, ahead of schedule, and the crew at ROF are self motivated. They were always checking up on things and asking questions to make the product the best it could be for me. Everything went perfectly and better than I imagined. I'm very proud of their work and they made me feel and look like a star. They are very easy to work with, friendly and just plain nice! I am planning another doozy of a project for them next year and I wouldn't consider anyone else but them to pull it off.

I couldn't have been happier with my choice to ask Steve to handle videography for our corporate event. Steve was very responsive from the get-go, introducing himself and immediately showing a high level of understanding for what we expected based on our proposal alone. Leading up to the event, he was always available for questions or requests, and handled the details with ease. On the day of the event, both the turnaround time and finished product were exactly what we requested-- hiring Steve made it so I had one less thing to worry about during the event as he navigated everything expertly. I look forward to working with him again, and would highly recommend him to any Thumbtack users looking for a videographer.

Mark did an excellent job as our wedding videographer. He was professional and didn't miss a beat on our wedding day. I would call it "thorough" (while some videographers might have been in our face, Mark was there without being too evident). A perfect balance. The finished product was just what we wanted and fit our budget perfectly. A rough cut and a beautiful 15 minute edit. Mark captured all the details, even a few things that our photographer missed. We loved our video highlights enough to order a few additional copies. We highly recommend Marabate Studios!

They are great videographers. They made a wonderful highlight video. When I was worried it was a little shorter than I hoped, they helped by giving us some b roll footage to allow us to see the other special pieces. Appreciated them capturing expression /moments and peaceful views in nature. While many captured moments here and there, they were able to really get the emotions at the moment. They made our Santa Barbara wedding a great experience!

I LOVE working with Latrice & Tanya! They truly are wonderful to work with in every way possible! They are professional, kind, helpful, thoughtful, offer quality work, quick turnarounds, listen and understand what it is you are looking for. A bonus is they are not just videographers, they are also editors! WOW! So amazing! Make sure to hire them before I make my multi-millions and hire them full time and keep them all to myself! Lol.

My favorite thing about working with Luis was his friendly mannerisms and respect for those in attendance at our wedding. He and his helper did an outstanding job with recording us in the perfect manner. We've shared the videos with our friends and family and everyone really enjoyed watching them. Our family members that couldn't make it out to our wedding were in tears after seeing the highlights. We are super glad that we hired newlywed cinema and Luis. Couldn't have asked for a better videography team!

Kyle was the videographer for our wedding at the 1909 in Topanga Canyon and he was awesome! He was able to put together our 3-minute wedding feature very quickly afterwards. He was very professional and easy to work with and unobtrusive during the event. He was able to artfully piece together all the key moments from our tea ceremony and regular wedding ceremony very nicely. Would definitely recommend him!

Wow! What can I say! I hired Adrian as my videographer for my engagement proposal last week and he is absolutely amazing.......I just saw the finished work. He truly has a passion for what he does and it shows in his work. As soon as he arrived at the proposal location, you can tell he absolutely knew what to do to capture my girlfriend and I’s special moment perfectly. You can tell in his work that he uses the best equipment for these films (which I highly recommend you should see on his website). You can absolutely trust Adrian to capture all the special moments of your event.

We were debating about whether or not a videographer would be necessary for our wedding. After working with Bryan we are so glad we decided to hire one, but especially that we hired Bryan. He was very professional during the planning stages as well as on the day of our wedding. He has given us a video that we will cherish for years to come. Total professional. Excellent service. Very responsive and reasonable. I would definitely recommend to others.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
