DJ Dan was GREAT! He was on time, well dressed and a professional. The music/light was great. The kids/teens really enjoyed the music/dancing and singing (they are normally bored in party for adults). The oldies enjoys the music and danced with the younger ones too. The photo booth was a hit too. Dan was also very accommodating and was willing to stay beyond the agreed time with out charge. He was also very interactive with the kids and teen. Even the Band singers danced during their break! All of this on a really good price deal. My family really like his service and want to extend our thank you for a job well done. You are definitely on our list on our next parties (and our friends).

Harley and Shery have a music and recording studio right next to Johnny's Guitar Shop. That is where all the lessons take place. Gianni has been with Harley for about 3 years now, I think, and loves it so much that his week is not quite right if he can't go. Both Luca and Robbie have lessons there too (guitar and piano). We "occupy" a good chunk of Tuesday afternoon and I completely trust them with my boys' musical upbringing. Harley teaches the instruments and I take lessons with Shery. Shery is the voice coach of The Music Factory and brings years of experience to each lesson. My voice has improved tremendously with her gently guiding me. Both of them are in a band called "Shery & the Psychodelics". They have their own website under that name. It is totally worth your babysitter to go and see them, 'cause they sure know how to rock da house :-) They are so "into" music that they often go over the time (if there's no appt after), just because it's fun for them. The approach is artistic (as apposed to strictly from a book with homework etc) - they really try to let the kids "feel the music within you".

209 All stars were great to work with. They are affordable and sounded spectacular. My guests loved the songs they played, thought they sounded great, and thought I spent a fortune on them when really they helped me tremendously to work within my budget. They were the best vendors I had the privileged of working with and many of my guests are asking about them for their own events!!

Larry's a great guy and great drum instructor. We always have a blast during my lesson and he's taught me quite a bit over the last year or so that I've been taking lessons from him. He plays in many local bands and different types of music so it doesn't really matter what you want to learn on the drums, Larry will be able to teach you.

We are a trop rock group. We are Michael Sea & Island Fever. Nationally recognized singer/songwriter, Michael Sea has been writing and performing songs with a tropical/nautical theme for the past 25 years. A contemporary of genre touchstone for Jimmy Buffett, Michael interpolates his own personal spin on Buffett and other classics into his set. Michael's vast catalog of original songs tell stories, both true and fanciful, evoking exotic locales and bringing to life colorful characters like Toucan Bill. The music masters of Island Fever complete the sound combining a driving rhythm section and tight harmonies. Island Fever features the talents of Bryan Weiss on bass, Don Parsons on drums, Gordon Schaaf on percussion and JJ Jenkins on keyboards. We have performed at countless festivals, fairs and stadium shows, including opening for Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer's many times. For larger, stadium-type venues, the band brings out the full compliment for that your-face-is-in-the-music sound with up to 12 musicians.

We play a mixture of rock and roll and blues music, many songs from the 60's, but new songs as well. We have played weddings, birthdays, parties, concerts in local parks, street dances, country clubs, and many more events. The band has been together since the mid 1990's. We have two guitars, a bass, drums, a saxophone and a female vocalist. We play music to make you want to dance.

We are a local band with lots of experience. We are professional and always flexible with times and dates. I am a former army soldier trying to get the band known.

We are a fun, lively band that appeals to all ages.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
