Amazing!!!! I hired LaToya Creations to help with my holiday decor and Christmas scheme and more than thrilled with the outcome. She was attentive to what I wanted but also gave some much needed guidance on what direction to go to take things over the top (I love over the top lol). Any event, holiday, birthday or occassion you have I would highly recommend her over and over again. She is fantastic!

These guys are simply outstanding. Not only are they really good designers, but they actually cared about the work they were doing for us. Fantastc style, very knowledgeable about other things, such as construction... and best of all, always available and incredibly fast turnaround. We are extremely happy to come to what now feels like a new apartment. Will hire them to do our offices next, for sure!

From the second Cassie and I sat down to discuss what she would be able to do with my apartment I knew right away how passionate she was about her job and how open she was to accommodate my needs. She was beyond helpful and transformed my little studio into exactly how I had it pictured in my head ! I will definitely refer her to anyone who is in need of a home makeover and you can't beat the price .. thank you Cassie !!

I have already started working with Teresa on my next job and have recommended her to close friends. She is one in a million. I gave her the job of decorating, furnishing, and outfitting an apartment for vacation rental -- in 48 hours! She got it done in style, the result was incredible and she stayed within my very tight budget. In order to do so she made many of the pieces by hand out of reclaimed materials. The apartment came out looking fantastic, exhibiting exactly the personality we discussed. I gave her full creative control to choose paint colors, furnishings, bedding and wall hangings, and two days later everything looked perfect, full of life and creativity. I also enjoy working with Teresa. she is professional, good natured, an excellent communicator, operates with high integrity, is always prompt, and keeps her promises. She holds herself to a very high standard.

I have known Maryann for over 25 years during which time she has helped numerous clients of mine that were either preparing to sell or had just purchased a home. Recently, competitively biding and showcasing her ideas against 4 other designers, she was awarded the contract to completely refurbish /redecorate our Community Club Center, which has; meeting rooms, library, lounges, recreation, and office areas on the interior and coordinated the choices and purchase of furniture for our patio areas, swimming pool seating, and shade awnings. The completed project design was outstanding; the work was completed on time, and on budget. Maryann always stands behind her work, materials, and those other professionals she hires. It is always a pleasure to see how creatively she decorates a home while maintaining each individual’s style and budget.

Style Umbrella decorated and set up my entire event! We have elaborate parties on a regular basis but this year I needed an extra hand. They exceeded my expectations in every possible way, I didn't think a company could really do such a fabulous job I will use this company again for every event I plan in the future. The cost was very reasonable and they truly outdid themselves. These girls really put in eso much effort in all the work and it showed! My guests were thoroughly impressed as was I

Finally, someone who gets my style !!! I love color and mixing design styles and after years of being told I “probably could not afford” the decorating I was asking for, I was wrong for mixing contemporary with traditional, I needed to use less color, and other comments, I feel lucky that I found Elena! It has been more than a year since we started working together to update my home. I love decorating and sometimes know exactly what I am looking for but can’t always describe it. Elena works with me, helping to transform the vision of what I want, not what she thinks I need or should have for my home. She also will select items I would have never thought of picking for myself and when that happens, WOW !

Sell your house fast and sell for more! Leaving your property in “as-is condition” will only help sell the competition’s property in your neighborhood. Here’s why: Wow factor first impressions - In today’s tough market, the “Wow factor” first impression is absolutely required to help sell your home fast and increase its value. Do people say “Wow” when they walk in your home? Increased home value with minimal investment - Statistics suggest that staging a home typically provides a 343% return on investment! Sell your home faster - Staged homes sell 85-89% faster than non-staged homes according to the Real Estate Staging Association’s The Consumer Guide to Real Estate Staging (2009). Increased probability of selling: Over 84% of home buyers view listings of homes for sale on the internet. Staging your home will make it stand out from the competition on the internet. Certified professional home stagers are more objective - Most of us love our homes just the way they are, which is fine for living in them. However, to sell them they must appeal to a broad spectrum of buyers. Certified professional home stagers have a sharp eye for detail, understand the real estate market, and then will make a comprehensive list of suggestions and changes to help you make the selling process faster and more profitable. What do you have to lose (except more time on the market)? With over 20 years of marketing experience, Simply Stunning Staging will captivate a buyer’s attention using specialized design techniques that appeal to a broader range of potential buyers, thereby increasing the number of showings of your home. Our certified professional home stagers will use their unique and extensive training to maximize your home’s value and attract the attention of buyers as well as real estate professionals and investors.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

    • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
    • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
      • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
    • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
      • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
    • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
    • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
