About

I'm an internationally renowned classical musician offering interpretation and performance coaching, advanced piano lessons and vocal accompaniment. Services include the following: 1. private piano lessons in interpretation, technique, repertoire and performance (a very unique approach to muscular relaxation, phrasing and technique as taught by Mary Sauer, pianist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra) 2. pedagogy for piano teachers based on that same approach 3. chamber music coaching, judging/adjudicating of competitions, performance coaching for all instrumentalists and voice types 4. choral conducting and master classes 5. recital accompanist and duo recital partner for professional artists of all voices and instruments After living for 18 years in Europe, I am now once again based (between concert tours) in the Bay Area, and I very much miss the two-way relationships of private lessons, coaching, accompanying, etc., so I was happy to find this site. No beginner but am willing to be "auditioned" by you (and the other way around) in an initial (paid) lesson or coaching session if you are a serious student, a performer, a teacher or a professional, and are at "advanced intermediate" levels or above. I would love to meet you and hear you, and we can inspire each other towards a higher level of music-making! For my beliefs about music, see the many video interviews on my website, or see my TEDx presentation on the homepage of my website.

About

I do not believe in mediocrity or half measures. My music reflects this. My teaching reflects this. I care deeply about my students progress and their goals. I am by nature very competitive and I want to be the best teacher, the most inspirational and motivating. There are teachers I have had in my past that I will always revere... teachers who have influenced me in such a positive manner. I want to be that Teacher to my pupils. If you ride a motorcycle or scooter, I have indoor, secure parking for you. I always say that I have the best gift in the world. When you have the gift of music, it is always inside of you, coloring everything you do and see. Doing what I love and sharing it with others is the best job in the world. Music is supposed to be fun! Don't get me wrong- there is no substitute for practice and hard work- but enjoying the journey is also the gig. Some of my students come to me after not-so-great experiences with past teachers. It is my job to change and replace those feelings. The joy, wonder, and love that I have for music and the Piano can be highly contagious. You want to catch this one... I have students ages 3-7, and I am their very first piano teacher. This is a responsibility and an honor that I take very seriously ( while making it totally fun for them ). I am constantly honing my creative skills, seeing this musical world through their eyes. I know what moved and inspired me when I was a kid and I draw upon these memories. Every student is different so I individualize and tailor my teaching approach accordingly. I continue to fine tune it as we go along, never losing track of my students initial goals. I am delighted when I see a students eyes light up- when they "get" it. And those "Ahhh..." moments when it all comes together. Understanding the language of this incredible instrument called The Piano gives me the best voice I will ever have.

About

I have been playing piano for 20 years and teaching for more than four years. I teach classical piano, as well as the many skills that are associated with piano playing such as sight-reading and music theory. I love teaching piano to people of all ages and skill levels, and I particularly enjoy watching my students grow and (hopefully) develop a passion for this wonderful instrument.

About

I like to teach the student the music that they want to learn. Every student is unique, not only in their abilities and learning styles, but also in what they want to achieve, and even why they want to take lessons in the first place. There are three primary areas in which I would like to see every student improve in, namely musicality, technique, and repertoire. Depending on a student's needs and desires, one of these might receive more or less emphasis (and lesson time) than the others. However, I strive to help my students continually improve in all three areas. While many teachers have a particular method with which they are comfortable with, teaching all of their students out of the same set of books, I prefer to approach the teaching of each student separately. I strive to design an individualized lesson plan for each and every student, helping them develop the specific skills they require while playing the music they love! I am here to help you reach your goals, not my own. As such, the lessons are much more of a dialogue than a lecture. The more active you are in this dialogue, the more you will get out of your lessons. The first lesson is primarily spent discussing your musical goals and getting a feel for your current level of experience. By the end of the first lesson, you will have a few songs and/or exercises to practice. After your first lesson, I will prepare material based on your personal strengths and weaknesses, and if you specify some songs that you would like to learn, I will transcribe them and be ready to help you learn them at your next lesson!

About

My lessons are tailored to each individual student. I do not use a particular method. Because I am able to play and teach jazz, classical, blues, pop, showtunes, and other type of music, I am able to let the student collaborate with me on what they are most interested in. Collaboration. Building relationships. Watching people grow musically. Watching people's confidence shoot through the roof.
