Cara is a wonderful piano teacher! I hired her to teach my 5 yr old son piano lessons. She was very prompt in responding to my calls and text messages. Since my son is still very young, Cara was able to make the lessons fun and age appropriate! She is very good at cheering my son and getting him to follow instructions in a very easy way. Cara also provides great recommendations and suggestions on how to practice at home. My son had warmed up to her quickly and we feel so comfortable having her around. Cara gave us a quick sample on how she plays the piano and she played beautifully! Makes me want to enroll myself! Haha! Also we have a digital piano and she was able to adjust playing it quickly. She is always on time and she actually takes additional time to make sure my son and I understands the process and expectations. Definitely so much worth it hiring her! I highly recommend Cara!

Diane was a wonderful Spanish tutor. Teaching a new language to a hearing impaired student is a challenge to most teachers but she came prepared with different modalities and materials to accommodate my hearing impairment. She was also open to suggestions and incorporated them into the lessons. I learned useful vocabulary as well as traditional language building techniques. Diane was flexible and willing to accommodate scheduling sessions to meet life’s busy days. I would definitely recommend Diane as a Spanish instructor.

Hola!!! I absolutely love Karen. She tutored me for 8 months in Spanish and boy did I relearn a ton. I had taken Spanish for over 10 years but you know what they say when you dont use it you lose it. She was always prepared for our lesson and worked at my pace to ensure I was grasping the language..Our lessons were 60 minutes bi-weekly sessions. Unfortunately I had to move due to a new job but if not I would still be working with Karen!

Dave is extremely knowledgeable. Gives great feedback on my progress. Corrects me where I need the attention. I am satisfied with my decision to take up private lessons. These lessons have brought me to a level where I will be able to keep up with instruction once my class at DVC begins in August.

Sofia has been working with my daughter since she was 3.5 years old. Now she is 8. My daughter loves working with her. Sofia is a wonderful teacher, very knowledgeable, supportive, super patient, competent, resourceful, result oriented. She has been helping my child with writing, reading, comprehension, math, Russian language. They've been making together beautiful art projects. I'm very pleased with her work and would highly recommend her to other parents.

"I contacted Jacqueline for my daughter prior to her student exchange trip to France. She needed to learn the basics of the French language. The lessons with Jacqueline were very informative and fun. Lots of conversation examples from maps and pictures and a little vocabulary. This is the best way to learn a language from someone who is native from there . My daughter really enjoyed the lessons and she felt much more comfortable to leave for Paris. Thank you Jacqueline. I will definitely recommend you to all my Friends."

I am an intermediate tennis player looking to have fun while increasing my personal fitness. Farmer John gave me a customized professional tennis lesson where I was able to cover the topics of my choice. There was a good balance of instruction combined with practice to help me improve and learn the game correctly. His teaching style and feedback was positive and encouraging. He has inspired me to play more tennis and strive to be the best tennis player possible.

      About

Real life experience! I have lived in Spain and Mexico and have friends in Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, and in the USA with whom I speak Spanish regularly. So my Spanish isn't just textbook-proper, it's also day-to-day real! I have translated for a music magazine, a comic magazine, a Mayan author, and as part of my own research and work with indigenous peoples, so my knowledge/vocabulary base is very diverse. Translating: I like writing and language crafting, so my translations really reflect the author's voice and meaning . That's a challenge I enjoy. Teaching: I love surprising students with funny or interesting examples with which to practice.

      About

My work stands out from others because unlike others, I am a native Spanish speaker. Also, I've traveled throughout Latin America as an advisor for all the Air Forces from Central and South America. I have friends and family in Latin America whom I communicate with on a daily bases. I like the idea of helping non-Spanish speaker better themselves whether they just started learning Spanish or whether they are proficient in the Spanish language.

      About

We are a student/family driven nonprofit that focuses on serving your learning goals. Unlike one-on-one tutoring and on-line courses Sakura Gakuen's community of students help each other learn, stay motivated, allow you to practice what you are learning as you learn, and provide cultural experiences from learning how to cook traditional dishes to celebrating Japanese holidays. Annual field trips also give students to put their new language skills in context (use them) and have fun too. Sharing our appreciation of culture and language motivates us. Seeing students learn and have fun in the process and take away a greater sense of awareness of themselves and the world.keeps this job exciting.

      About

It's extremely fulfilling. There is no greater feeling, than the one I get after I leave a tutoring session and the tutor-ee (and their family) are glowing with accomplishment. :) My favorite and most memorable tutoring session is with a 4th grader named Saima. Saima is a brilliant child, however she was having trouble pacing herself with her sessions. Her mother was frustrated and overwhelmed, as she had 2 other children with homework to help too. I came in and helped Saima who was 4-5 weeks behind catch up with her class in three 5-8 sessions. Saima not only finished her work correctly, but felt empowered and confident in her abilities. Her mother, was extremely proud. It made the whole family happy, so it made me happy!

Since I'm not a professional, I'm willing to negotiate prices. I'm known by teachers and friends for being responsible, hardworking, and helpful.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
