Introduction: Now offering remote lessons using Skype, Zoom, Facetime and Facebook. I put my heart and soul into my lessons. Lessons are patient, positive oriented, student-centered, and incorporate the latest scientific research into how people learn music. I am a fully certified Music Teacher and earned a Masters Degree in Music at Columbia University and my BS from Berklee College of Music Instruction is individualized for each students learning styles, experience and of course goals. It's easy to tell students to practice, I teach them HOW to practice efficiently. Everyone can learn to play and improve their ears. At Columbia University, I began a lifelong study into the research on how people learn music, as well as the effect of learning music on the brain. Lessons are holistic, with the goal to understand and love music It is far easier to play what one understands. I include music theory, a wide variety of songs, exploring and understanding the elements and theory of music. And, when all is said and done, it's about playing with as much beauty and feeling as possible. Peace.

Piano Lessons

My kids and I took lessons from Bob this summer. He lives and breathes music, knows everything there is to understand and learn music, and encourages open communication. I, myself, continue to take lessons from Bob working at my continued pace, texting with questions and updates to my progress as I go. I very much enjoy the intellectual conversations he is open to having within the lessons. I believe he has "old school" teaching methods and was a perfect match for me; but my kids prefer more indirect instruction. My kids and I still enjoy practicing together!

Piano Lessons (for adults)

As a mature student and absolute beginner to piano I took my first lessons with some trepidation. I have found Bob to be very enthusiastic, supportive and helpful; and very good at explaining underlying musical theory concepts, not just the mechanics of playing piano.

Bass Guitar Lessons

I chose Bob to help me understand music theory and how it relates to the electric bass. He understands exactly what it is that I am trying to achieve and has constructed my lesson plan accordingly. He has been flexible with my schedule, and I return frequently as to make sure I'm getting the most out of his lessons.

Guitar Lessons

Iam a professional Guitarist and have been taking lessons from Bob for a bout 2 months now. I inicially contacted Bob becaused I had reached an impasse with my playing. Within the first couple of lessons I learned to negociate the fret board with more ease and confidence. Bob has a solid foundation in theory as well as teaching the student the pratical application of the theory. I was able to apply the learning material to my playing almost immediately after my lesson. Bob is very patient and takes the time to explain the material so it is well understood before the lessons are over. I highly reccommend Bob to anyone who wants to take their playing to the next level.
Patient Lessons Guitar, Bass & Piano's reply
Dave was a working professional. He was interesting, in that he was also a percussionist, and he had a unique approach, doing a lot of percussion on guitar. What he did not know was how to work his way around the fingerboard, so I gave him the science and forms to easily play in any key or any song. I also introduced him to reading music, this is a lifetime joy.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I put my heart and soul into every lesson. If you ever feel you have not received more than your money's worth, the lesson is on me. I offer discounts for students purchasing blocks of lessons in advance, as it makes my life easier and I can plan ahead. If you are truly financially challenged, I will offer a sliding scale for sincere music students. I am especially interested in working with young children as I plant seeds for the future.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First I find out what they want to accomplish, and develop a plan to take them where they want to go. Along the way, I try and provide a well rounded musical education, that will change a student's life in ways they never imagined.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

How about a Masters Degree in Music and Music Ed from Columbia University? How about several years studying Jazz and contemporary music at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
