I took English lessons with Toni to improve my vocabulary and my academic English. She was also kind enough to tell me about many local resources and she taught me a lot about the American culture and way of life. Toni is very dedicated in her teaching, and she made sure I learned new idiomatic and local expressions in addition to working on my academic English skills. Towards the end of my semester at UC Berkeley she helped me proof my term papers, and provided me with excellent feedback and very helpful comments on my written English. Not only is she a great teacher, she's also a very warm and friendly person who will make you feel welcome and offer a safe teaching environment. Also, make sure you try her mint tea, it's delicious!
I have been taking Spanish lessons from Ms. Price. She is incredibly personable, knowledgeable and helpful. My Spanish skills have soared since I've started with her. Very friendly, she is an excellent teacher. She knows where weak points are and knows how to explain advanced subjects in a way which is very understandable. I am definitely going to continue lessons and I highly recommend Ms. Price to anyone who is seeking to improve their language skills.

I provide language skills to people who need to improve their reading, writing, speaking (presentation) and listening. I teach ESL to non-native speakers of English and test prep for SAT/ACT/IELTS and TOEFL exams. My teaching is informed by the high expectations of all the students that I teach who I encourage to be independent and manage their own learning, while giving them the tools to progress and improve their language skills. Specifically these skills include the following: * Building their confidence to them express themselves in English without fear of making mistakes * Scaffolding their learning of English which involves keeping them in English and enabling them to process thought in English * Teaching reading strategies to students whose written script does not use the Roman alphabet * Guiding students on how to listen with greater acuity * Encouraging earners to develop their thoughts in writing * Progressing from constructing and linking sentences to paragraphs For native English speakers who are preparing for tests, I believe in the following: * Giving students the fundamental strategies they need to de-mystify reading * Eenlightening students to actively use strategies to muster sentence completions * emphasizing the value of strategies such as drawing inferences and locating the main idea * Encouraging students to read critically and actively * Advising students about effective ways to learn vocabulary items * Showing students how to self-correct and be aware of the impact of the grammar they use * Demonstrating how to improve paragraphs and be more concise in their writing and expression of ideas I have been working at California State University, East Bay, where I have been guiding students towards achieving a greater understanding of reading strategies needed to de-mystify texts, preparing them for tests needed to enter university and indeed study at university by teaching them how to take effective notes during lectures. I will be happy to provide you with further documentation of my background outlining my professional experience. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to schedule a time to meet. My students have an extremely high pass rate because I instil in students the belief that they can succeed and the rest is up to them.

Would you like help learning how to follow cocktail party conversations? Reading newspapers? Or following dialogue in movies? Unfortunately, traditional English language classes are only designed to teach the basics. So, while you may be able to communicate with others, you may not be able to fully be yourself with English speakers. I'd like to help you change that in a relaxed scenario in which you can ask questions, and receive instruction without the pressure of judgment. I find this process to be a lot of fun and look forward to meeting you. Please contact me to schedule a free 30 minute consultation during which we can discuss how I might be able to help you. My current rate is $45.00 per hour. I am able to keep my rate low as a private tutor by eliminating as many overhead expenses as possible. I have been a distinguished teacher for long time. I am so into the teaching and learning process that I also teach teachers about best practices. I hold a master's degree and an English teaching credential, and I have been an instructor/teacher at the middle, high school and college levels for over 20 years. I also have spent many years tutoring elementary, middle and high school students in language arts/English and all core subjects even math. My other credentials are in art, French and history. I enjoy and excel at teaching all humanities. I have a special love for teaching the language arts. My students not only learn about the writing process, but come to value and use it well. I can kindle a love for writing and reading (and therefore critical thinking), because I teach with zeal, competence and an understanding about how each individual learns best. It is also essential that students find meaning in their studies and the process enjoyable. I am a strong grammarian too. I have much experience working with students individually as a tutor at every grade level (K- college), and I can also help ESL students. I have been teaching art at the elementary level for several years, not only tutoring young students.
