As someone in the real estate industry, I know how hard it can be to find a quality property manager. I was referred to RMG from a fellow Realtor. RMG will return your calls promptly and will make you feel valued. Most companies these days treat you like a number but RMG makes you feel like a priority.

Let me start by saying I was dreading buying our new house. I have had some pretty bad experiences in the past and I wasn't looking forward to repeating them, but as it turns out I had nothing to worry about. Daniel said something in the very beginning of our transaction that really stuck with me and it set the tone for our entire experience. To him it was an offhand remark, but I was really happy to hear it and even happier to see it play out. We were talking about what makes someone a good agent and he told me that "Real Estate is all about follow through". Now, I've heard that plenty of times before and it's usually just lip service, but not with Daniel. He never let a question go unanswered, never let a situation go unexplained and he never let the listing agent off the hook until she did what she said she was going to do. He explained every step we were taking, was patient with all my questions and he helped us make informed decisions. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a Real Estate Professional!

We read so many amazing reviews about Shay and his team. One of the reviews said that he is the absolutely best in Las Vegas. I can say the same - he is the absolutely best of the best in San Diego as well! He is knowledgeable, professional, open, honest, and so easy to work with! He is done a super job of making selling our home a pleasant experience. I agree with his other clients - he went above and beyond in every way even for things that weren't his responsibility. The condo was sold within 28 days. Thank you Shay! You are my favorite broker now! I wish you have real estate broker license in Wisconsin too. If any of my friends or family decides to sell/buy property in San Diego or Las Vegas, you will be their choice #1. You are a great agent!

Without a doubt the best realtor I've ever had. David is professional & has a great sense of humor. I appreciate his integrity too because he didn't try to push me into buying just any house. He really cared about what I wanted & listened to me & had good recommendations for features that I didn't even realize would be important until later. He found the right home & best of all he negotiated a great price.

Being absentee landlords of commercial property in San Diego County this past year, we felt it time to engage the services of a property manager. Even before personally meeting Robynne, her professionalism, immediate response to phone calls and follow up were exceptional. After meeting with Robynne, we knew we were in good hands. She is knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the real estate market and property management. After listening to our needs, Robynne tailored her services accordingly, and we did not hesitate to hire her. No job is too big or small for Robynne to handle. She has a calm yet confident demeanor and has managed all of our needs to perfection. We highly recommend Robynne's services.

This group is by far the best real estate team I have ever worked with, keep in mind I used to be a real estate agent for 5 years. If you try to save a percent or two by going to a discount broker or doing this on your own you will pay the price in the end. I met Matt randomly at an open house and got along with him from the start. I worked with Matt Sorensen directly on my purchase and listing. He is a true professional that is responsive and trustworthy. He was able to communicate negotiate and perform at a level I didn’t think was possible. We were truly impressed by Matt’s expertise and team that got us through a difficult transaction due to the other sides uncooperative nature. You are in great hands with Matt and his team. I highly recommend them.

"Martha did everything she could do to make sure we got the house we wanted. We couldn't have asked for a better agent to get the job done. Martha was there for us every step of the way. This was our first home purchase and we really needed someone to walk us through the whole process. Thanks to her we have our house! We were pretty tough clients and we are so happy she stuck with us. Thank you, Martha!"

I had come to a point in time where it was time for me to make the move and begin my search for a house that would be the beginning of my real estate future. I was nervous, cautious and had no idea what I wanted. In order to make an informed decision, I wanted to find somebody who I could work with that would work with me. I found Jennifer through word of mouth and decided to contact her as she already had a great reputation for her sincerity and professionalism in her work. As soon as we met, we hit it off. She was very open to all of my concerns and she was great about giving me a basic introduction to all of the different things I needed to be prepared for in my search for a home that would be right for me. The more questions I asked, the more confidence she gave me as somebody who I could count on to help me. We went over everything and she was able to use her knowledge and resources to help me make an educated and confident decision. I would recommend Jennifer to anybody who is looking for a supportive, knowledgeable and professional real estate agent to help them make one of the most important decisions they will make in their lives, buying a home.

Sandro helped me find a condo after a year long search. He could've easily given up on me after all the properties we looked at, but he never did and I made it to the finish line even with a difficult seller thanks to him. His professionalism, knowledge of the real estate market, as well as his availability to answer any questions via phone or text during the entire process makes him highly recommended. He went above and beyond to make sure I was happy and satisfied with my purchase and I'm grateful to have had the pleasure of working with him as my realtor.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a real estate agent do?

Real estate agents help their clients buy, sell, and rent commercial and residential properties. There are also real estate agents that sell industrial and agricultural real estate, but the majority sell residential properties. To become a real estate agent, you must be at least 18 years old, successfully complete real estate courses, and pass a real estate exam. Be sure to check for any required licensing, too. Often real estate agents will earn 5 percent to 6 percent of the total home sale price for their work in representing their client. Typically this commission is split equally between the buyer’s agent and the seller’s agent. Here is an overview of what a real estate agent does, according to the United States Department of Labor:

    • Represent clients who are looking to buy, sell and rent properties.
    • Stay knowledgeable about regional real estate prices, mortgages, market conditions and related information, and advise clients accordingly.
    • Determine competitive market prices by comparing properties.
    • Create and publicize lists of properties for sale, including details such as location and features.
    • Market properties through advertisements, open houses and listing services.
    • Show prospective buyers or renters properties.
    • Present purchase offers to sellers for consideration.
    • Mediate negotiations between buyer and seller.
    • Ensure that all terms of purchase contracts are met.
    • Prepare documents, such as loyalty contracts, purchase agreements and deeds.

What's the difference between a real estate broker and an agent?

Real estate agents and real estate brokers both help clients buy, sell, and rent residential and commercial properties. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, real estate brokers are licensed to manage their own real estate businesses. Real estate agents cannot have their own real estate office and must work under a broker. Real estate brokers often have real estate firms and employ real estate agents. Those real estate agents may be employees of the firm, or they may work on contract and earn part of any commission they bring into the firm.

If you are a homeowner ready to sell or a buyer in the market for a new home, either a real estate broker or a real estate agent can help you achieve your goal. What is more important than their title is their track record and client success stories. When interviewing real estate agents or brokers to help you buy or sell a home, ask about their recent sales history as compared with the original listing prices. If you’re selling a home, ask how they would market your home and what price they would list it at. Whether you hire an agent or broker, you want a professional who will have your best interests at heart.

What should you look for in a real estate agent?

When you’re hiring a real estate agent you want to find a qualified pro who can negotiate the best deal for your home — whether you’re buying or selling. Reading reviews will help you weed out obvious bad operators; you want to work with someone who treats their clients with fairness and respect. That said, you also want someone who can play hardball and maximize your real estate deal. Ask for references from recent clients, and be sure to call them.

Experts encourage you to interview more than one prospective real estate agent before hiring. A home sale or home purchase is a big deal — sometimes the biggest deal in a person’s life — and you want to find an agent who will work hard for you. In today’s market, having a real estate agent who is social media savvy and has an attractive online presence is critical. Ask the agent how they plan to market your house. Review their listings, and ask yourself if they have professional photos with homes that are professionally staged. If the answer is no, they might not have the marketing savvy you’re looking for. Ask what price they would list your house at and why. Pay attention to how they communicate with you during your initial interviewing phase. Are they too busy to respond for several days? Are they clear and helpful? This information is a clue to how they’ll engage during the entire process.

What do real estate agents charge?

Real estate agents typically don’t charge a set rate to their clients, but rather earn a commission on the price of the final home sale. In traditional real estate, there is a buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent. The two agents receive 5 percent to 6 percent of the final home sale price and split it evenly, meaning they each earn roughly 2.5 percent to 3 percent of the total home sale. If you are a home seller, you may have fees associated with the sale that are above and beyond the commission the agents earn. The real estate agent may have you pay marketing fees, MLS fees, early cancellation fees, or more. Always ask pricing details before signing a contract so you clearly understand your financial obligations. Here are some of the average (and common) costs that can arise when selling a home:

    • Home inspection: $200-$350 or more, depending on region.
    • Home appraisal: $250-$400 or more, depending on region.
    • Professional real estate photography: $275-$550 or more, depending on photographer, square footage of house, and special requests like sunset shots.
    • Closing costs: Often split between the seller and buyer. An average range for the buyer to pay is between 3 percent and 4 percent, with the seller paying a lower fee at 1 percent to 3 percent of the home’s price.
