I have had 2 appointments and I can genuinely say it has helped tremendously already. I had tried a life coach in the past and it really was just a waste of time talking and explaining my life....if you want to really change and not just talk and be a victim this is the therapy and the hypnotherapist for you. He is kind and humble and really wants to help people.

Until I met Linh, therapy seemed like a waste of time and money. I don't feel that way anymore. Explaining my thoughts and feelings out loud in a safe, non-judgmental environment gave me insight into myself that I had never had before. Sometimes you just need someone to ask those hard questions you don't want to ask yourself. My outlook on my life and my motivations has significantly changed through talking with Linh. Now, I view counseling as a worthwhile investment in myself.

I found her to be creative in her approach which was helpful seeing as though so far I wasn't getting anywhere with"typical" therapy. I have only seen her a handful of times so far but would say it's been a good experience and I would recommend her.

I started experiencing intense, unilateral exertion headaches out of the blue. Every time I would laugh, cough, work out, etc., I would feel pain. I was extremely concerned because I had never had headaches of any kind in the past. I visited a neurologist and was told that it could be something minor or something as serious as a brain tumor, but that he wouldn't know unless I got an MRI/MRA. Almost $2,000 later, I was told that the imaging results were normal, and the doctor still didn't know what was causing the headaches. I got blood work done to rule out some other potential causes. Again, all results came back normal, yet the headaches persisted. I've known Bo for years, and at the time I was experiencing this problem he was the Assistant coach of the team I run. He heard me complaining about the headaches to our team's AT on a bus trip to an away game. He suggested I try a session with him. I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I agreed. I will say that I am a big skeptic of any kind of alternative therapy, and I honestly didn't think it could possibly do anything to help something this serious. I was so wrong. I kid you not when I say that the VERY NEXT DAY my headaches (by this time now present for about 3 months) were completely gone!!! Bo is very good at what he does. I would recommend anyone experiencing any type of issue to be open to trying this before spending a bunch of money on doctors and medicine. You just might be surprised. It works!

I am truly blessed to have worked with Candice in therapy. She is an exceptional therapist- dedicated, honest, open, understanding, encouraging. She is very knowledgeable in her field especially as it relates to trauma, eating disorders, abuse and children. I would highly recommend this individual to anyone who is ready to address change and willing to let a loving and compassionate soul be their guide.

our results are beyond usual predictors of outcome. Here's an example; a recent email from a client: Matrix Energetics – email from “A Very Grateful Grandmother!” Posted on April 7, 2011 by missionhillspt.com/blog Ralph, Thank you so much for the healing you did on my grandson. I have never mentioned this to my daughter because she is so sensitive about her son, but for a time I feared he might be autistic, but I no longer feel that way now. As an infant he would become frustrated and would bang his head on the floor, on the door, on the wall or hit himself in the head with his fists. It troubled me to no end to witness this. And when he began daycare at 2 years of age and started catching the colds and fevers that a lot of kids go though when they come in close proximity with one another his fevers would spike and he’d go into seizures. So when a friend suggested I bring him to you I welcomed the opportunity. I realize you have only seen him once, but since you worked on him he has become a TOTALLY different child. He is SO HAPPY…..constantly singing and laughing. That evening when he went home from your office and his mother asked me what you had done it was very hard to explain to her so I asked her to just notice and explain to me the differences that she noticed in him. Well that evening he picked up a piece of broccoli and began eating it as if were cotton candy. Since then he eats spinach, green beans, celery, cabbage, constantly asks for milk. You’ve done wonders for him. The following day when I picked him up from school he took me around and told me the names of all three of his teachers and before we left his classroom he turned and blew them all a KISS! This is totally different behavior for him, because before he was very quiet in school and didn’t want to speak according to his teachers. NOW in the mornings when I leave for work he blows me a kiss and says “I love you and have a good day”. I can’t believe the changes. Don’t get me wrong he is by no means an angel. We still have a few more issues I’d love for you to work with him on, but I WANT TO THANK YOU SINCERELY for the beautiful start you have given our baby boy. There has been no more hitting himself in the head with his fists or banging his head on the floor. He is now a gentle, loving, happy, well-mannered…..well at least a typical 2 year old now. Thanks again Ralph! A Very Grateful Grandmother! I get to be a part and be present for the miracles we see on a daily basis. I get to play in the unlimited field of possibilities in a daily basis. It's not work for me or for us; it's lining up with my desires and seeing what shows up!

At OxyHubs, San Diego Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, we provide Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments to adults and children. This process requires the customer to breath pure oxygen at an increased pressure. In order to achieve this increased pressure, the customer must receive the treatment while in a pressurized environment; a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather up to three times more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure. However, this type of treatment is often used in conjunction with additional therapies to facilitate healing of various conditions. Treatment takes place in a sealed chamber where oxygen and pressure are steadily increased. he hyperbaric chamber itself is cylindrical in shape, made out of thick, clear plastic so the customer can see out in all directions. Treatment sessions usually last for 90 to 120 minutes. Through these sessions you will experience: acceleration of wound healing, reduction cell death and infection, elimination of deadly substances, promotion of blood vessel formation, preservation of injured tissues, and an increment in the body's resistance and ability to combat infection. Most importantly, people who receive oxygen therapy often see improved energy levels, improved sleep, and an overall better quality of life. Visit OxyHubs, a San Diego Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center for people of all ages!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are the types of psychologists?

Psychologists are healthcare professionals who use scientific methods to understand the relationships between the brain, environment and behavior. Psychologists may focus on research — studying how the brain and various environments drive behaviors to better understand the issues that trouble patients and society as a whole — or they may focus on practice — interacting with people using therapeutic methods. The American Psychological Association shares some of the more prevalent types of psychologists:

  • Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.
  • Cognitive and perceptual psychologists study human perception, thinking and memory.
  • Community psychologists work to strengthen the abilities of communities, settings, organizations and broader social systems to meet people’s needs — such as improving support for victims of natural disasters, or working to improve health policies.
  • Counseling psychologists help people understand and take action on everyday issues, career and work problems, and serious adversity.
  • Developmental psychologists study the psychological development of the human being throughout life.
  • Educational psychologists concentrate on how effective teaching and learning take place.
  • Engineering psychologists conduct research on how people work best with machines.
  • Environmental psychologists study the dynamics of how people interact with their environments.
  • Evolutionary psychologists study how evolutionary principles such as mutation, adaptation and selective fitness influence human thought, feeling and behavior.
  • Experimental psychologists study cognitive processes, comparative psychology (cross-species comparisons), and learning and conditioning.
  • Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues.
  • Health psychologists specialize in how biological, psychological and social factors affect health and illness.
  • Industrial/organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to the workplace to improve productivity, health and the quality of work life.
  • Neuropsychologists and behavioral neuropsychologists explore the relationships between brain systems and behavior.
  • Quantitative and measurement psychologists focus on methods and techniques for designing experiments and analyzing psychological data.
  • Rehabilitation psychologists work with stroke and accident victims, people with mental disabilities, and those with developmental disabilities caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
  • School psychologists assess and counsel students, consult with parents and school staff, and conduct behavioral interventions when appropriate.
  • Social psychologists study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people.
  • Sport psychologists help athletes refine their focus on competition goals, become more motivated, and learn to deal with anxiety and fear of failure around competition.

What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. To actively practice, a psychologist must be licensed in their state and maintain good standing. Psychologists are trained to administer tests that can evaluate a patient’s cognitive strength and weaknesses, intellectual skills, vocational aptitude and preference, personality characteristics, and neuropsychological functioning, explains the American Psychological Association (APA).

A psychologist meets with patients in an office and may work with a variety of methods, depending on patient need, such as cognitive, behavioral or interpersonal.  According to the APA, common reasons a person may visit a psychologist include:

  • Dealing with depression, anger or anxiety over a long period of time.
  • Help with a chronic condition that is interfering with their lives or physical health.
  • Help with grieving and other abrupt transitions.
  • Overcoming addictions.
  • Managing chronic illness.
  • Breaking old and harmful patterns of thinking or behavior.

Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.

How much do therapists cost?

If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.
