How do I hire an electrician?

Go online to find a list of the best electricians in your area. View each individual electrician’s profile and learn more about their services and expertise. Then, read reviews from satisfied customers as well as any issues they may have encountered. This will help you find one with the right experience to work safely in your home.

You should also spend some time researching what qualifications and credentials they have. You might find information about their license on their profile, or you might need to check your local and state government’s website to verify their license.

Once you’ve done a bit of research, ask to receive free estimates from several electricians in your area. Ultimately, hire the most qualified electrician who can complete your project at a reasonable price.

Is it worth it to hire an electrician?

Yes, it's usually worth it to hire an electrician instead of doing the work yourself.

Electrical work can be very dangerous. The pros spend many years working and studying before they become licensed and certified. That knowledge and training can help them work safely and perform the job without harming themselves or your home.

Even a small wiring repair job can be unsafe if not done correctly. Hiring someone that has specialized training on how to do each specific job is the safest choice.

What questions should I ask an electrician?

Here are a few questions you should ask any electrician you’re considering hiring:

  • Are you licensed or certified? A professional electrician should have this information ready and up to date.
  • Do you have any references? Ask for references to learn about their work history from previous customers. You may be able to look online at reviews, but it’s also good to speak to someone to find out their experience with this electrician.
  • What types of services do you offer? Whether you need repairs or installation services, make sure the electrician can perform the work you need.
  • How long will the job take? This will help you set expectations and rearrange your schedule (if needed).
  • Can you send me free estimates? Request a job quote or estimate. This will help with comparing different electricians. The numbers may vary, but be sure to factor in the experience of each person, as well as the scope of electrical work you’re asking about.

Do electricians offer remote or virtual services?

While electrical work is typically performed in person, you may come across some electrician profiles that state the pro is offering remote services. If you do, contact local electricians to discuss your particular project and what type of remote services they may offer.

Tony was the second electrician who I had come out to do the free estimate. He was the only one to be rapidly responsive, explain things clearly of what I needed, and what I didn't need. He came in got the job done and job done right the first time. His rates are fantastic, his advice saved me tons of money and his experience speaks for itself. I have found the only electrician I want working on my house now. Thank you Tony

Anthony came to fix a problem that another electrician made in installing an outlet. Luckily the first guy was so incompetent that the outlet didn't work, because if it did, I would have fried a very expensive EV plug because the panel was not wired correctly to the new outlet. Or my electric box would have caught fire. FUN!! Anthony showed up and fixed everything. He is awesome!

We had our lights changed out in the Kitchen. We had recessed lighting placed from our traditional tubes lights. It was handled with quality and he was very detailed about it! He was also able to fix and patch up the drywall which was great as some electricians i spoke with had to refer me out for drywall. I do recommend their services as they were very communicative, compassionate and presented with quality work. I’m happy with my new lighting!

I needed more lighting in my backyard, So I reach out to Kumar to put up some string lights up for me and he responded right away, I also had some bad electrical situations in my backyard and he let me know right away, that those are hazardous, I really appreciate him letting me know that could cause a fire, he was on time, he was very professional, kind, and he knocked it out in about an hour, it looks really good, I’m so happy with the results, He is now my go too Electrician

The person I was talking to on thumbtack wasn’t the person who showed up so I don’t know if they have an assistant or scheduler or what but there’s definitely a language barrier. I scheduled him to install a fan where there was no existing lighting. They showed up thinking they were just swapping out fans. He needed to borrow things from my husband. I think it was a bigger job than he could handle and didn’t want to admit it because he wanted the money. I paid $270 and he got the fan blades working but not the lighting. Had a different electrician come out and he figured out he didn’t do all the wiring 🤦🏼‍♀️ I contacted them again and they apologized, but nothing more. Wouldn’t recommend or use again.

I was contacted by Mr. Mitchell in response to A job to hang a light in my entry area. I informed him that I hung all my own lights but this one was higher then the others and I could not reach it with my ladders. He accepted the job with a quote of $150. I agreed to that price and we had set a date for the end if the week since we were close to the 4th of July holiday. When the day had arrived he did not show up. I called to see what had happened and he told me that he needed to pick up his ladder for the job from another site and asked if he could come later. I said this was fine but when the time came he still did not show up. I texted ho the next day asking "if there was any sign when he could hang the pendant" light? He told me that his crew had left his tall ladder at another work site and that he had to locate it. I said this was still okay and we set another day for him to come. That day came and left and he was still a no-show. He did not call to tell me he would not arrive he just did not show up. I called him back a few days after so I could cool myself and remain calm and asked again if he was going to hang the light? Ho told that he was going to have to rent a ladder for the job and would call me that night to set an appointment to hang it. When he did not call me back I called him the next day and he set a time again. When the time came he was still a no-show. I called him back ( now 3 weeks later) to ask what happened end why he did not show up. He told me that it was hard for him to rent a ladder for the job and asked if I could rent it for him and would hang it for the price of $50. Like I said at the beginning of this review I could hang the light if I could reach it. I did not need him if I could get my own ladder. All I got from this transaction was a lot of stress and a month delay. This is not the man to go to if a serious about a project. He does not seem to want the work and he does not take all of his jobs seriously. He not at all professional and will avoid you if there is a problem rather then inform you of the problem. He just doesn't show up to jobs and does not call to explain. If you are serious about your project go to another electrician. this is not your guy. This company seems more reminiscent of a children playing then a serious man trying to promote his business. Stay Away!!!!
