Professional, courteous, efficient. Trustworthy. This group knows exactly what they're doing when it comes time to pack up your items and get them safely to the next location. If you're not sure of the next location, store your items at their warehouse. The movers genuinely care about your items and consider different options on how to best protect what you're moving. Be available to answer any questions, but otherwise, get out of their way because they're the experts.

Two movers showed up and efficiently took care of both my donations and junk. Harp was extremely responsive from when I first reached out (Saturday night!) and I'd definitely work with this team again. Thanks!

The guys were all great! Showed up on time, moved ALL my stuff so quickly and safely. I’ve used other movers before and it seemed like every piece of furniture was damaged but not today! Moved all my heavy objects without issue and even assembled the bed frame without me asking so by the time they left everything was where I needed it. Would definitely recommend them and use them again!

I experienced excellent service with Leclair Moving moving company today, 8/10/18. To be honest, I had a list several moving companies, but when I called Leclair to inquire about pricing, I spoke with Horatio who was more than happy to answer all th questions I had. He was kind, professional, polite and patient with all my questions. When I met him in person (he was one of the movers) he was a delight to talk to you. Horatio was what made me choose Leclair moving company. It’s employees like these who make a difference just On the initial contact! If considering a move, Inhighly recommend Leclair Moving Services! Thank you, Horatio and Kevin, for a great move. You made it so easy! My daughter so appreciates it and so do I! Rebecca Dahlgren

This was our first time ever using movers, so researching a great company and affordable pricing was very important for us. I stumbled upon this Drew and his company through Thumbtack and they offered the best moving rates out of the other 9 companies. I contacted them, got a response very quickly and after putting up with all my questions and concerns, they still seemed liked the best fit. Communication responses were quick and made decision making easier. Moving day came along and he sent Anthony and Tony as movers. They went above and beyond with loading and unloading everything we had. Couldn’t have asked for better movers. The challenges they endured moving everything to the top floor was out of this world. Very thankful for a successful move!

I had such a great experience with Luxury Moving. I am recommending them to ALL my family and friends who are looking for movers. I initial reach out to them through Thunbtack and within an hour, I got a response from Yana that she will give me a call. She answered all my questions and explained everything about the process thoroughly. Unlike some horror stories I have heard, I did not have any surprise cost add-on day of. Immediately following the scheduling, she emailed a confirmation and then reached out again to confirm with me that everything on the email was correct to what we had discussed. At morning of the moving date, I got a call from Sergiy and his guys to confirm time and location. They arrived in time of schedule. They were professional, FAST, but yet extremely careful with the furniture and not scratching the walls of the house. The entire time, they were on top of their game, without once just standing around or "taking a cigarette break." Everyone was commenting on how quick and great they were. At the end of the move, I paid by credit card the cost. No new charges that caught me off guard and they were on their way out. A day later, I got a call from Yana who wanted to see how the move was and wanted to check to make sure I was happy with the move. Service from Luxury Moving was excellent from start to finish and then even after. I could not be more content with this booking. Definitely got a repeat customer out of me!

I hired MP Movers (Marquiz) to assemble a 6 drawer IKEA dresser. He arrived right on time and was very polite. The dresser came in 3 different boxes which had to be moved downstairs to my daughter's room, which he did for me. He was so conscientious that at one point the instructions didn't match the materials and he brought this to my attention. He quoted me a flat fee and stuck to that. All in all, I couldn't have been happier and I will definitely hire MP Movers again. I highly recommend Marquiz and MP Movers.

Yes, would definitely hire again! We had a terrible time with our first movers and were very hesitant about hiring movers this time around but we were very pleasantly surprised and will use them again the next time we move.

Two guys came with a smile on their faces to move my heavy furniture between apartments within SF on memorial day day no less!. When they arrived (perfectly on time) and saw my stuff and the narrow stair way they recommended 3 people but weren't able to get a third person. Still, though, they continued with the job and handled everything expertly. From wrapping, loading into their large truck, disassembly, all the way to the unloading and unwrapping and placing the furniture they got it all done with pretty much no fuss. They even helped assemble furniture they didn't move. The only critique I had was that my previous movers were able to get my old move done in 4-5 hours with the similar stuff and these guys (who were working tirelessly) took closer to 8. I didn't realize how much time was passing and this caught me by surprise since I felt they were working at a reasonable pace. Thus the price ended up being higher than anticipated which I was a bit bummed about. That said, this is a reliable and caring crew so I can recommend them!

The movers at AmerApex Moving could not have done a better job moving our belongings over 2,000 miles away. The crew was on time, polite, very careful, and kept the move fun and in good spirits. Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
