We hosted my oldest sons graduation party. The "get together" quickly snowballed into a 200 person event..In our backyard! We decided to entertain our guest with a game truck and a photo-booth. We were on a tight budget and did not have money to waste on a bad experience. But we were put at ease after one conversation with Dayvid. He is very courteous, professional and he quickly put our worries to rest. The Photo booth was by far the biggest hit! Not just the attractive photo booth, but the friendly and fun customer service, personable style of Davyds son, the props, and the customized pictures were all a big hit! The game truck left, but Davyds son stayed longer than we had scheduled, and they offered a nice price for the extra time. I love this company, and I cannot wait to host another event so that Dayvids Photography can set up their beautiful booth, and help us to get the party started and keep it going! You guys rock! Thank you for everything!

Wow. I have hired a lot of event photographers but Brad truly stands out. Brad comes equipt with all of the gizmos and gadgets to take the best photos in any setting. I have yet to receive such professional images. Event photography is difficult. It is hard to capture the right natural moments. Brad is a master at this. Turn around time of edited image gallery was less than 24-hours. Incredible. Will definitely hire again!

Joe Chung Photography (JCP) photographed our recent event and family gathering. From the initial introduction via Thumbtack and engagement, Joe was prepared and professional. Everything moved very easily and communicating with Joe was simple and hassle free. Leading up to the day of the event JCP was able to work with us as our needs unexpectedly changed. We were presented with a few unfortunate, last minute, vendor changes. Last minute vendor changes can be crisis-worthy. Lucky for us, JCP was adept at managing crisis-worthy scenarios and was able to adjust and calmly eliminate the potential crisis from the loss of another vendor. JCP agreed to travel to additional locations and work with us as our itinerary changed slightly. The day of the event, Joe and his team went above and beyond to capture all of our moments. We were blown away by the effort JCP took. During a carriage ride they followed on foot to capture the family. Our nieces really felt as if they were VIP. It was delightful to see the look on their faces when JCP was there to take their photos along the way. JCP was not only professional and knowledgeable, but they were fun. They brought a lot of enjoyment to our event. We feel very fortunate to have found JCP on Thumbtack and would highly recommend JCP to anyone looking for photography services. Thank you Joe Chung Photography!

ROF Industries headed up by Nicole Pittman-Staab and Chris Staab are videographers/photographers who created a wonderful presentation of an aerobatic jet flight I participated in over Southern California. They were able to set up numerous cameras, recorded the event from visually interesting angles, provided editing, musical scoring and conducted interviews with the participants in a documentary style video. The quality of the work was outstanding, ahead of schedule, and the crew at ROF are self motivated. They were always checking up on things and asking questions to make the product the best it could be for me. Everything went perfectly and better than I imagined. I'm very proud of their work and they made me feel and look like a star. They are very easy to work with, friendly and just plain nice! I am planning another doozy of a project for them next year and I wouldn't consider anyone else but them to pull it off.

Chris is absolutely perfect. We had the privilege of having him photograph our wedding recently and could not have been happier. He has GREAT communication, professionalism, and just downright loves his job. Most importantly, he is SUPERB in his craft. Chris has left us with the most gorgeous pictures we will be looking back through for the rest of our lives. Easy as pie to work with, offers an incredible value for his rate, and an outstanding guy. We can go on and on and on. If you are in need of a photographer for ANY event, do yourself a favor and give all your stress to Chris. He will take care of you and then some. We can't wait to use him again!

We contracted Ashley Seering in 2014 to handle both the Photography and the Videography needs for our large family reunion in St. Louis. She was very pleasant and great to work with.and is a person of detail. She did an outstanding job, was very punctual, and was very professional. She was very reasonably priced and went above and beyond our expectations. I will recommend her video and photography services to my colleagues and friends. Our family was blessed and very pleased with her quality of work. Thanks

I searched for a while to find videographers I could feel comfortable with. I knew as soon as I spoke with Erica and Laura on the phone that they were the ones. I could tell from their enthusiasm and how much they were able to listen that they would make me feel at ease the day of my wedding. Everyone loved them and commented on their positive energy and also how they were so courteous and polite. My favorite shots in our video were some great closeups they took during the ceremony. The video was edited very nicely and in a fun way and included guest interviews which added a nice personal touch. We must have watched it 20 times in the week we got it and relived each moment together. They got it to us faster than expected and we were both very happy. My husband and I were not sure if we even wanted video at first, but now feel this was one of the most important decisions we made. I would definitely recommend The Vision Field.

I have worked with Joe on several projects. At the 2016 NAMM Show in Anaheim, he shot and edited more than 10 videos over a four day span and all were just excellent. High quality, with pristine sound, to boot. We also worked with Ducati for a Fender/Ducati partnership and took to the streets to make a creative promotional video that showcased a great scavenger hunt/post-party event. I'd definitely work with Joe again! - Mike Duffy Senior Editor Fender.com

My favorite thing about working with Luis was his friendly mannerisms and respect for those in attendance at our wedding. He and his helper did an outstanding job with recording us in the perfect manner. We've shared the videos with our friends and family and everyone really enjoyed watching them. Our family members that couldn't make it out to our wedding were in tears after seeing the highlights. We are super glad that we hired newlywed cinema and Luis. Couldn't have asked for a better videography team!

Joseph was extremely professional and our video turned out ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. During our wedding, hardly anyone even noticed we had a videographer because he was very discrete and not disruptive at all. Very professional and timely as well. Our video turned out better than I could have ever expected and it captured our day so well. The quality of the editing and the music choice exceeded our expectations! I would highly recommend hiring him for your wedding or any other event!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
