Lawrence handled the photography of our wedding with energy and enthusiasm. His outlook was as if our wedding was the only wedding in the world. When my wife was talking to him about the food we were serving, Lawrence listened politely and I could see an idea was taking shape in his mind. When my wife finished what she was saying, Lawrence raised his camera and said "Could you remain right there in front of the rose bush for a moment?" This man lives, sleeps and dreams photo angles. The unending quest for another perfect shot, with the perfect lense, under the perfect lighting. When Lawrence heard that my wife and I met in a dispute over my sappy walnut tree, Lawrence searched the ground in my backyard to find a couple of black walnuts left over from the tree that had been removed ten years ago. I knew nothing of this until I watched the slide show he made for us. As the last guitar chord faded away, the display showed our wedding program, with the story of the black walnut printed on it. At the base of the program were the two black walnuts that Lawrence had retreived. Photography is more than a job to Lawrence Gerald, it is his passion. His artistic nature is evident in his photography. The theme of our wedding was a 1930s themed wedding. I rented a cutaway coat, top hat , cane and white gloves. My wife wore antique pearls. Mr. Gerald started our slide show with a creative photo of my top hat , cane and gloves on the table. Draping down from my hat was my wife's pearl necklace, which framed a napkin we had printed with our names and an art deco design. A white rose was arranged on the hat and both of our wedding rings were in the foreground at the base of the hat. This 1930's style photo captured the essence of our wedding theme. Lawrence's work did not end with the wedding. He went through thousands of photos he took and gave us the best 1,500. Our families and friends were included in all of the group shots. His personable nature made it easy to gather around him for posed photos. I would look no further for an excellent photographer to have at an important event. Lawrence is an amazing individual and photographer!

We just had our engagement photo shoot with Stavan a couple weeks ago and he did an amazing job. He was very easy to work with and he also had my fiance smile for pictures (which he doesn't). He was very punctual and professional but at the same time, you could be comfortable around him, you can enjoy the session. We are currently working with him on deciding on the photos from the raw file and will upload some pictures as soon as we get them. We are looking for our wedding photography with him in February as well. I definitely recommend him.

I hired Jeff to photographed our 50th wedding anniversary celebration of 63 people. He discussed the event several times in advance. He arrived 30 minutes before the posed fmaily pictures were takes to set identify scenic background at winery in Napa and set up proper lighting for the scene which was heavely backlit. He took posed pictures of 11 family members in various groupings, informal pictures at reception and during dinner and at Renewal of Weddding Vow ceremony. Picture were very good- sharp and good lighting. He composed 3 different albums for members of the family and was very quick in re-arranging the order of the pictures and making requested edit. . He was very professional to work with and guests enjoyed having him take their picture. He was very prompt ( within 3 days) in posting on his website a gallery of about 100 pictures of the event, which guests can review , download and order prints. He completed composing 3 different albums in 10 days. I was very pleased and recommend Jeff for event photography.

Where to begin with Adam and Hanna. Go ahead and hire them. Don't second guess yourself. I wish I could put into words how grateful I am to this couple for making our engagement shoot memorable and actually enjoyable for a reluctant photo shoot groom. Booking them was easy. And Adam was extremely patient with me as I changed the location the day of the shoot. We live in San Francisco,on the morning of the shoot I realized the fog was in for the day. After emailing Adam in a panic he suggested a beautiful park down in Los Gatos. It was everything I wanted for the pictures and more . Ada and Hannah were very calm, friendly and good fun to be around it actually was very enjoyable. If our wedding was not A destination wedding I would hire him and Hanna again for my wedding photography. We even received some unedited pics the night of the shoot.they were amazing. He is awesome with the camera. They took their time. Never glanced at the watch and actually went over the time frame we had booked them for. Excited to see the final pictures. Adam and Hanna....thank you both so so much. Lynne and Ken

In looking for a photographer for our wedding, our main goal was to find someone who could portray the events of the day as they were happening. We were less interested in formal photos and more interested in emotions and ambiance. Before the wedding, Patrick took the time to get to know us as a couple to better depict our relationship. He made a concerted effort to learn the names of our families, the bridal party, and even by the end of the night several of the guests. Patrick did a wonderful job capturing the special moments – a smile here, a look there – which allows us to look back on our pictures and relive the experience. As circumstances changed during the day, he improvised and provided us with a great final product. Overall, Patrick was very flexible and added an artistic touch to our wedding. We are thrilled with our pictures and would enthusiastically recommend him to couples interested in an experienced and inventive photographer who takes great pride in his work.

We used LuvlyProduction for our wedding photobooth in May 2018. I was impressed by their responsiveness and their desire to make sure we had a good experience working with them. Our guests really enjoyed the props and enclosed photobooth!!! I had no complaints from our coordinator about setup or teardown. Would not hesitate to book again :)

Chris is fantastic! We had a horrible experience with our wedding photographer, and so were a little hesitant to get some family photos taken. Chris was the perfect choice. He was patient, professional, and took the time to get the shots we wanted. Pictures are adorable, I am so glad I have some nice ones of our family and newborn. I would use him again.

I hired Usman for my wedding photography for two wedding functions plus two couples/family shoots, I did not have wedding videos done by him so I can't comment on it. Usman was very comfortable to work with, and quite flexible and helpful as well (I even got a ride from him to my own reception). He's of a friendly disposition, easy going, and easy to get along with. We were quite happy with our pictures, he has a sharp eye for good framing and did some very good impromptu shots on our couples shoot. I don't think there were any important moments that he didn't catch with great shots. I would certainly recommend him for your wedding.

We had TwinSpin for our wedding, and we're super satisfied with his service. Before the wedding, he spent time to learn my needs and address my concerns. His price was competitive; he worked with me on prices and threw in couple extras. His equipment was professional and as described, and everyone could hear in our outdoor wedding. At the reception, he was energetic and was able to engage the crowd without any directions from me. Overall, better than expected. You can hire him with confidence.

Nicholas did an amazing job capturing all of the special moments and details in our wedding with an articstic eye! Our friends and family are still raving about his work! He was also very accommodating and went above and beyond to film everything we asked for and more. Leading up to the wedding, he was always responsive immediately within the day if not hour and even after the wedding during the editing process he was like this! He has always been professional, polite, and friendly. He got along great with our photographer. He got our wedding video to us very quickly and edited everything beautifully while making sure to cleverly add in our special songs and props. If you are looking for someone professional, creative, friendly, accommodating, and affordable for your special occasions look no further!

Sean of Kurtela Video Productions was great to work with for our May 18 wedding. Before the big day, I talked to Sean about what we were looking for and the type of shots we wanted; he listened, asked great questions, offered wonderful advice, and really got a feel for us as a couple. I felt really comfortable with him from the start. On the wedding day, he showed up on time and set-up really quickly. He captured so many wonderful memories that we didn't even know he was there for. He was very professional and accomodating. I was running late on make-up and asked him to come back a little later because I wanted my eye make-up to be done. He was quick to offer filming the groomsmen then and coming back. And he came back right on time! And the groomsmen were so happy to get the extra time with them in their sunglasses. He worked well with our photographer as well, which was extremely important to us. And captured unbelievable shots! The best part was that he got our trailer to us so fast that he beat the site coordinator from posting photos on Facebook! That is how quick he was. We received our final video way before his due date too. If you have the opportunity to hire Sean as your videographer for your special occasion, I would recommend him completely.

It was a pleasure working with Omar all along. Even though I only got in touch with him 10 days before my wedding he still found time to meet with us and discuss what wedding style we are expecting, he showed us samples of previous work similar to what we were expecting. On the wedding day he showed up on time and suited up. He proceeded to take pictures of the hall and to take family and couples pictures. Even through the stress of a wedding he stayed calm and managed to blend in with the guests (if it weren't for the camera you'd think he's a guest!) which helped him take great pictures that he also delivered to us on time! 100% would hire again!

Amazing experience! She is so kind and thoughtful and very clearly talented. I follow her on Instagram and amazed by the quality of her work. I hired her for wedding getting ready pictures and ended up having her stay for the whole wedding. She showed me various shots as she was taking them to make sure I knew what kind of shots she was able to get, which I appreciated as most photographers don’t have anything to show you until many weeks later. She was very respectful of time and my other wedding photographer, but willing to help guide through what wound otherwise by a very hectic day! She was very responsive to time and location changes. I can’t say anything but positive things!! Please choose to work with Inna, you won’t regret it!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
