Clearlight Video has provided me with EXCELLENT wedding photography services! I am SO glad that I found them before my wedding day, I was above and beyond satisfied with their performance and quality. If they lived closer to my area I would hire them again. Lawrence and Ian did everything to make my wedding day special. They even made me feel good about myself with the compliment's that they gave after they shot a photo. They derserve a large book of business if they don't already have it. In my opinion, they derserve a 5 star rating! I can't thank them enough for the amazing job and gorgeous photo's that they shot! I will always keep them in mind if I ever need photography services in CA again! Sincerely, Carissa Simmons

Michael was great to work with. I could tell he knew how to capture our day. He comes with a lot of experience from non wedding photography which we liked. I never got to meet him until the wedding day so I guess my only critique would be a little more communication leading up to the wedding such us check ins maybe the months out and one month out.

Brian is a great photographer and great to work with. We really enjoyed working with him and the photography he took. He did our wedding photography and engagement photos also. He is very easy going and doesn't make life more stressful when you are already stressed out planning a wedding and trying to get things done. I would recommend him and his work. He will give you all of your pictures on a drive at the end too so you can print out whatever you want and doesn't put watermarks on the photos. He does some editing, I think with Lightroom, but doesn't typically Photoshop things out, so know that. Although he will work with you if you really need a certain picture fixed or something. He is just very easy to work with. We love our wedding and engagement photos!

We had our pre wedding photoshoot done by Diane and it was a great experience. We were visiting SF for a few days and were wondering if we will be able to capture the essence of the place in the photoshoot, but Diane drove us to the most beautiful places in the city and clicked lifelong memories. We had some pictures clicked with our friends as well and they came out really well. Diane was very flexible and it was fun spending the entire day with her. She made us really comfortable and helped us all along the photoshoot. I will highly recommend her to couples for their wedding and prewedding photoshoots.

Where to begin with Adam and Hanna. Go ahead and hire them. Don't second guess yourself. I wish I could put into words how grateful I am to this couple for making our engagement shoot memorable and actually enjoyable for a reluctant photo shoot groom. Booking them was easy. And Adam was extremely patient with me as I changed the location the day of the shoot. We live in San Francisco,on the morning of the shoot I realized the fog was in for the day. After emailing Adam in a panic he suggested a beautiful park down in Los Gatos. It was everything I wanted for the pictures and more . Ada and Hannah were very calm, friendly and good fun to be around it actually was very enjoyable. If our wedding was not A destination wedding I would hire him and Hanna again for my wedding photography. We even received some unedited pics the night of the shoot.they were amazing. He is awesome with the camera. They took their time. Never glanced at the watch and actually went over the time frame we had booked them for. Excited to see the final pictures. Adam and Hanna....thank you both so so much. Lynne and Ken

We used LuvlyProduction for our wedding photobooth in May 2018. I was impressed by their responsiveness and their desire to make sure we had a good experience working with them. Our guests really enjoyed the props and enclosed photobooth!!! I had no complaints from our coordinator about setup or teardown. Would not hesitate to book again :)

I was nervous about doing a boudoir shoot but really wanted to surprise my fiance with a book on our wedding day. This was definitely out of my comfort zone and I never tend to love how I look in any pictures - so I was extra hesitant. But from the moment I started working with Cheshire, I felt super comfortable and excited! He even made a custom playlist (and had some champagne ready) to make me feel more at ease. Cheshire was so amazing to work with, I could not have been more happy with how the shoot and book turned out. He went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and to ensure the pictures turned out amazing! Thuy did my hair and makeup and did an absolutely amazing job! She was there throughout the shoot to refresh my makeup and hair which also helped put me at ease! From the time I saw the proofs to when I received the final book, I was blown away by how amazing the pictures were. Cheshire does amazing work, and I could not have been happier with how everything turned out! If you are thinking about doing this - just do it, you will not regret it!!! I am so happy I did - and so was my fiance :)

Chris is fantastic! We had a horrible experience with our wedding photographer, and so were a little hesitant to get some family photos taken. Chris was the perfect choice. He was patient, professional, and took the time to get the shots we wanted. Pictures are adorable, I am so glad I have some nice ones of our family and newborn. I would use him again.

Nicholas did an amazing job capturing all of the special moments and details in our wedding with an articstic eye! Our friends and family are still raving about his work! He was also very accommodating and went above and beyond to film everything we asked for and more. Leading up to the wedding, he was always responsive immediately within the day if not hour and even after the wedding during the editing process he was like this! He has always been professional, polite, and friendly. He got along great with our photographer. He got our wedding video to us very quickly and edited everything beautifully while making sure to cleverly add in our special songs and props. If you are looking for someone professional, creative, friendly, accommodating, and affordable for your special occasions look no further!

We hired Mark to film our wedding December 2015 in Santa Barbara, CA. We didn't want a traditional long boring wedding video that no one watches. Mark was very responsive throughout the entire process and delivered an outstanding video that everyone we have shown loves. In fact, after seeing the video, several people mentioned they didn't even know we had a videographer because Mark was very courteous and never got in the way but still captured every shot we wanted. Thank you Mark! Kelly & Anthony

We hired Keida Brewer of Swannworks Films for our wedding in May 2017 and he was exceptional! If you are looking for an awesome, down to earth, talented videographer then hire him!

It was a pleasure working with Omar all along. Even though I only got in touch with him 10 days before my wedding he still found time to meet with us and discuss what wedding style we are expecting, he showed us samples of previous work similar to what we were expecting. On the wedding day he showed up on time and suited up. He proceeded to take pictures of the hall and to take family and couples pictures. Even through the stress of a wedding he stayed calm and managed to blend in with the guests (if it weren't for the camera you'd think he's a guest!) which helped him take great pictures that he also delivered to us on time! 100% would hire again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
