Introduction: Hi, I am Mianzi Yang, I am passionate about piano teaching. I think the most special thing that makes my teaching different from others is that I really focus on good hand posture, which is the foundation of piano playing. This is the hardest part to teach for the beginners. It is easy to teach note, and most teachers here neglect the importance of proper hand posture, which will result in rigid wrist and arm and hinder the students from further learning. Another thing I pay a lot of attention to is the tone quality. It is easy to play a note on the piano, but it is not easy to bring a good tone quality. Mianzi Yang was born in Shanghai China. She received her BA at Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2010 and her MA in piano pedagogy from California State University Fullerton in 2017. Mianzi is dedicated to teaching students in music to lead them beyond technique to help them discover musical insights and derive motivation from the experience of studying music and performing it effectively. A firm believer in musicianship studies, her desire is to help student understand the theory, history, and aural training components of music, along with effective practice methods and habits. As a musician, her mission is to bring understanding and awareness of, as well as appreciation for many works of pianistic art. Having been teaching piano in US for over five years, I am familiar with students from young children to adults, especially with beginners. I adjust teaching methods according to different students and build a lasting bond with students. I focus on making music, make students truly love music. My studio holds students recitals 3 times a year, and I give out trophies after each recitals. All the students get very motivated after the recitals. Performing in public and watching other kids perform is as important as playing at home. I also strongly encourage siblings to do duets, which makes learning more fun. As for the books, I always start with Faber piano adventure, as it is the most fundamental books. Apart from that, I combine with British composer like Lina Ng's Piano Lesson made easy, American composer Jon George's A Day in the Jungle... I try to make my students exposed to different styles of composition and material, as each composer has their uniqueness. I enjoy most when I see the progress in my students. Piano learning requires high demand of discipline and patience, as well as the dedication and cooperation of parents. It is truly not easy. I do three recitals every year, and I do ABRSM, the music exam certificated by British Royal Academy of Music twice a year. I see my students grow and they are motivated after recitals and exams. This is the happiest thing from my job. I also enjoy making music together with my students, playing duet with them, singing with them, making them enjoy the music, which comes from the bottom of their heart. I do ABRSM exam twice a year and students' recitals twice a year.

Mianzi has been teaching my 5 year old daughter piano for a little over a month. She is patient, professional, and does a good job keeping my daughter engaged the entire time. Mianzi keeps the class interesting by mixing it up. . .she teaches technique, hand position, incorporates music/song using a CD, encourages singing while playing the piano and gives incentives such as stickers. She taught my daughter how to play a few piano pieces in a very short amount of time, motivating her to want to practice more and get better. My daughter absolutely loves her piano class and simply adores Mianzi.

Mianzi performed a variety of selections from Chopin, Bach, Debussy and Shostakovich for 2 hours at the 100th birthday party of a classical music lover. Her performance was much appreciated by the attendees at the event. Very few people left until it was over, in great part due to her playing. The event was quite unstructured, and Miazi did a great job of adapting her performance as the event unfolded. We would hire her again without question.
