Kim and Lori were fantastic. Lori came out with Kim (the one who would be staying overnight) to meet my dogs. I was very impressed when they brought toys for them. Kim was great with my dogs as well as taking care of my house. I received daily texts and pictures of the dogs which relieved any anxiety I had about leaving the dogs. My vet is in Orange County but Lori recommended a vet close by which reassured me that if there happened to be an emergency everything would be handled. I also appreciate the fact that they are licensed and bonded, just another reassurance. I am very happy with the services Coco and Boo provided for my fur babies. Kim treated my dogs like they were her own. I could tell how much they liked her when she returned the house key once I got home. I will be using them again when I go out of town.

We needed help with our 4 month old English bulldog. She came in the same day we made contact and gave us great tips and pointers from food, vets, and training. She was really patient, kind and professional. She knew what she was talking about and is perfect if you are looking for a local dog trainer. Thus far we have met just once but I highly recommend her and we plan on having her back to our home for additional training.

Shannon is so amazing with our dogs! I can't say enough good things about her and Doggie Bliss! When we were away on vacation, my sweet Frenchie needed to be taken to the Vet. No problem at all from Shannon and her team. They took very good care of her. Me and my pups will be life long Doggie Blisser's:)

Kevin is truly amazing - my dog is transformed! I was really impressed after the evaluation meeting, in which I learned more than I could have imagined. I worked with my dog over the next week, and I could see a definite improvement (after months of very little improvement). We got the family dog plan, and had our little dog board with Kevin for training during the day for a little over a week. He is a rescue and had some difficulties with aggression towards other dogs and strangers. By the end of the week, he was able to interact with other dogs - even big, male dogs! He was also more playful. Kevin's approach is holistic, and he will also work with our dog at our house to help generalize the good behavior. I feel so lucky to have had such a great experience, and I look forward to working with Kevin further.

Lisa has been walking and pet sitting my two dogs and two cats for five years. Her walks are always longer than the half hour I pay her for and my dogs come home well exercised and stimulated. When I'm not home, I trust her implicitly with my keys to my house and don't worry about a thing while I'm gone. When I'm away on vacation, the cats and dogs are so well taken care of, I couldn't ask for better. They are happy and content, even groomed. She texts me updates after each walk whether I'm home or away, will make runs to the pet store for me if I need it, will take the animals to the Vet or the park. Anything to do with pet care, she will do. I recommend Lisa's services for dog walking and all other pet care needs highly.

Miki is a great, trustworthy, and reliable pet sitter and walker. She handles my large 3 dogs and cat with ease and has been their "nanny" many times over the years. From walking, overnights to even vet visits, she ensures my dogs and cat are well taken care of. Highly recommend her services, and make sure you ask her for her famous pet treats too, baked from her home!

I have a GSD with a serious case of separation anxiety. We got pet walkers to help and Jessie was one of them. Jessie was not afraid, took control, and my dog loves her. Jessie is prompt, will let you know if she notices anything wrong, and will make suggestions on food/training if you need help. She goes above and beyond - she helped search for my dog when sable escaped the vet/boarding kennel facility on her own time. I highly recommend Jessie's walking and overnight pet sitting.

As soon as Lily met Veronique of Veronique’s Pet Care, we knew we had found our dog sitter. We vetted six potential sitters and Veronique is the one Lily fell in love with. So did we. Veronique stayed in our home for 12 days while we were in Asia. She proved to be reliable, followed instructions well and sent us daily updates, using What’s App. She’s also incredibly honest. She felt we overpaid her and refunded us for one day of Lily care. We will work with Veronique at our next opportunity and recommend her without reservation.

I'm also super particular with my doggies routine and Eva is so great about following it! I now have one less thing to stress about when traveling thanks to Eva. I highly recommend her 💚

We have a 3 1/2 year old cat that is new (2 weeks) to our family. The vet suggested that the cat stay home and not be boarded while we are on a short trip. George (Wiskers, Tails and Mail) was very understanding of our situation. He took excellent care of our cat and her new environment (litter box, feeding area, etc.). George also kept me informed on her activities while we were away. Utilizing the services of Wiskers, Tails and Mail was a huge relief during our time away. I highly recommend George and his company as they really provide more then pet sitting. They also supply peace of mind for the owner. P.S. I ran out of time to have the mail stopped and at the last minute George stepped into collect the mail on a daily basis. What a life saver! George and Lorna, thanks for everything!

I have a shitzu and me and my daughter love him to death. We walk him and bath him and feed him and we even sleep with him. Every second we can be with him . We buy him doll presents and we even celebrate his birthday with a little party with our friends and family. I am very up to date with being on top of his diet and eating right and I am also up to date on all his shots and making sure he goes to the vet for check ups. I am trying crazy about my dog. We call him Izo (Spanish means my son or my boy) . We brought him home when he was almost 6weeks old, that time we lived in israel. Today he is 5 and doesn't understand English but Hebrew he understands. Ardelle came into our lives about 2 years ago. I wanted to go on a vacation and well I didn't know where to put my dog. I have gone to so many places to check out where to leave my dog and nothing would help me see that my dog would be fine at a place where I am not going to be. I also would never leave my dog anywhere just to go take a vacation. Yes this sounds weird but hey he is part of the family and having him for 5 years that's my best friend. He has been through with me and my daughter through laughter and heartbreaks and he even knows when we are sad, happy, or just want to be left alone. He is a very special dog and with all the love that we give him he is very calm and playful. Anyways I was going crazy because I couldn't find anyone good enough to take care of my dog. Usually I would take him with us but this time I said I have to find someone and if not well then I will take him again with us. I have a friend that told me she heard about Ardelle , very nice sweet person that just loves animals and to give her a try. I did, I called her and she sounded really friendly on the phone and she had a lot of knowledge on animals. We spoke like for an hour when I asked her if she can come over and meet my dog. She did, that same night she came over to meet my dog and the Moment she walked in the door my little dog ran wagging his tail towards her. She bent down and my dog just jumped on her and started licking her face with joy. He started running all over the house and running back to her and I was shocked at how it was love at first sight with my dog and Ardelle. I told her that I am leaving for a week and I was afraid he would get home sick so Ardelle offered to bring the dog home at least twice a day where he could run around and feel home and yet still be at her house while we where away. Listen, Ardelle is amazing!! She sent me pictures of the dog at the park and at my house and her house. Videos everyday. Updates on how he is doing and feeding him what I asked her to. If I would call she would always always answer the phone and talking to me until I felt better that he is doing well. When I got back , Ardelle had been waiting with my dog at my house with a cute bow on his head. He was bathed and smelt terrific. He looked better then what I take care of him and believe me I am with this dog almost 24/7. When Ardelle left my dog sat by the front door all night waiting for her to come back so I decided since Ardelle is amazing with my dog! I asked her if she can be with him for a couple of hours and she agreed. Today not only is she with my dog part time but she also takes care of him when I'm away on vacation and business trips. Thank you Ardelle your an amazing person...finally I found Ardelle 😘

Albert was was very responsive and very fast to come over and help train my puppy Charlie. He did a great job and made sure to stay the full time he stated and gave us lots of details on how to continue training our puppy. He also followed up to make sure we are continuing the training he showed us. Also he was a heck of a great deal! At only $30 one visit he was more than 1/3 of the price other competitors charge! He gives very thoughtful advice and is a very kind and trustable person. I would highly recommend this very experienced vet to anyone looking for help training their puppy and will be calling him again if ever needed!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
