I cannot express in words how happy we are with how Kym took such great care of our puppy, Izzy. When she left for boot camp, she was a disobedient and very difficult puppy to handle. She returned home a happy, obedient and very healthy puppy. I would do it all over with no hesitation- there isn't enough $$ for the value we received. We will continue to keep in touch with Kym for boarding and ongoing training and just to keep in touch - Izzy loved Kym as much as Kym loved her and that was such a comforting feeling.

We had Steve train our Golden (puppy) and was amazed on how she turn out, no more biting, chewing. She now can walk with a leash by your side, she will sit and stay, down stay she comes when called. She was kennel trained and It took about three weeks and well worth it. you will need to work with your dog when you get home. You must watch the DVD, Steve can tell if you don't. If you want the perfect pet don't waste your time or money with the other guy's, Steve is the real deal!! Joe from Norco, Ca

Kelly was fantastic! We were nervous to leave our two cats with someone we did not know on our trip to Israel for two weeks. She came and fed, cleaned up and played with our "kids". Our house was well taken care of. She texted us each day letting us know how things were at home. I would recommend Kelly's pet care most highly.

Mobile Pet Spa came up as a result in a search on thumbtack in my zip code. They called me up immediately to notify me they don't service my area when they could have just ignored my inquiry so props to them for taking the time on a non-sale. They were professional and courteous on the phone and based on that I'd prob say they'd be worth checking out if you're in the area they service (farthest South is Venice). Seems like they'd be a good service to work with.

She was punctual, right on time. I told her my Maltipoo had health problems, so she took her time so not to stress her out and when she brought her back in, Precious was the cutest I’ve ever seen her. Then came Mikey who is very healthy so he was done in record time and looked very good too. I was very pleased with both dogs and I really liked the groomer. I’m sorry, I’m getting forgetful so I’m not sure of her name, but she was very nice.

Maureen was very responsive to texts/calls/emails. She made sure to address the individual needs of my family/pet. She packed in so much information into just one session and provided us with some unexpected extras. We have already seen an improvement in our puppy's behavior after one session. I love her positive approach to modifying behavior. She was also super patient with us (first time dog parents). We had some very basic questions but she spent extra time with us to make sure we were set before she left. Will definitely use her again and refer friends in need of doggy help.

Thank L.A. Doggers for taking such good care of my dog, Simon. I was worried about hiring a dog service for the first time since my cairn terrier is dog aggressive. But Dani quelled me of all my fears, and reassured me that everything would be okay. She was in complete control of my dog, and used special techniques to calm him down around other dogs. She treated my cairn terrier not as a stigma, but the cute lovable pup that he is. I would definitely recommend this dog walking service. Definitely will be back in touch. Thanks Dani for being so good with Simon. Your love of animals shows.

So, i have an older pup who needed some serious care & grooming & i was really skeptical when i was searching. I came upon thumbtack & Michelle responded to what i was looking for. I can honestly say i will absolutely be contacting her again for my other pup & definetly recommend her. I was nervous at first because my pup Brownie tends to be aggressive & our family was literally taken back & surprised because of how calm he was with Michelle, we've never seen him like that towards others! She shaved him down, trimmed his nails & gave him a bath. Brownie was taken for a walk & the neighbors loved how much happier / active he looked. We seriously thank you for what you did! If you're looking for a groomer, this is the right person to take care of your dogs!

I have a GSD with a serious case of separation anxiety. We got pet walkers to help and Jessie was one of them. Jessie was not afraid, took control, and my dog loves her. Jessie is prompt, will let you know if she notices anything wrong, and will make suggestions on food/training if you need help. She goes above and beyond - she helped search for my dog when sable escaped the vet/boarding kennel facility on her own time. I highly recommend Jessie's walking and overnight pet sitting.

I used Golden Pet Services once before for a long weekend for cat feeding/litter box cleaning services. The company seems very professional, and setting up the service was seamless (as they have an online booking website). Michael, the owner, was responsive and sent daily photos and updates on the cats. I will definitely use his services again.

Jennifer O. March 12, 2017 VERIFIED STAY Trina has been checking in on my pups while we're at school and work and has been very patient with my dogs who tend to be very leery of new people. She sends me a report on how it went each day, putting my mind at ease and is making progress with my little ones, which I'm sure isn't easy. I really appreciate having her as our doggie-sitter. ============================= Laura D. February 1, 2017 VERIFIED STAY We're so glad we found Trina! With three dogs and a cat, it's been hard to find quality in-house pet care in Vallejo, but Trina was wonderful. We felt completely at ease having her stay in our home and the animals clearly think she's the best. We are certain we will be using Trina again in the future. ============================== Susan F. December 19, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina did a home visit for our older hound. He is a lover, but can be very picky when it comes to eating. Trina spent lots of time with him and even got him to eat! She spent the extra time to clean up after him, and wrote us a lovely note detailing how he did with her while we were gone. We feel very comfortable using Trina, and look forward to using her in the future. ============================== Teresa B. July 21, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina was a wonderful help when I went on vacation and had no one to watch my two shiba inus. She was prompt and very professional in responding. Very accommodating with regards to my dogs needs as well as mine. She was very sweet to my two little children when meeting them. The dogs were in good spirits upon my return and I could tell they were well cared for. I appreciate that she let me know each time she was at the house, and it was exactly what we agreed on. She also brought in my mail and ensured the house was intact, in addition the house was how I left it upon my return. I would strongly recommend her to anyone needing care for their animals and I will be calling on her again! Thank you Trina. ================================ Ben S. July 19, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina is WONDERFUL! We left our two dogs with Trina to be sat for two nights while we went Rafting & Camping, and then to an event in San Francisco the next day. The dogs ABSOLUTELY loved her! She has a 10 year old Boxer named Max, and Cash, my partners tiny little 5lb. Chihuahua, hung with his new buddy on Trina's living room couch. Tilly, my 12lb. Jack/Pom mix adores Trina as well, and loves going on walks with Max. PERFECT SITUATION for us -- Trina lives about 2 minutes away from us, and she also agreed to take the dogs again last minute for another night the following weekend, while we go kayaking. She's a lovely person, and is VERY thorough, and VERY responsive to her clients needs, both human and canine. I HIGHLY recommended her and her services.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
