- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My first coaching experience came when I was 15 years old as an assistant instructor at the martial arts school I was attending. Later while in the military, I was regularly tasked as the PT, physical training guy, so when I got out, personal training was the obvious choice for me to pursue. In 2005, I started working in a bodybuilding gym and got my first Certified Personal Training Certification. I began studying Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, Franklin Technique, and contemporary dance shortly after, which led me to dance professionally with Mojalet Dance Collective. This dance experience gave me a nuanced understanding of movement as art and helped me understand performance enhancement at a greater level. The work of Paul Chek, Alwyn Cosgrove, and Mike Boyle has greatly influenced my professional development. I hold a Certified Functional Strength Coach certification from the Mike Boyle system and have completed courses in the Chek system. Kettlebells are a terrific way to develop resilient joints and enduring musculature, and I have studied the major systems such as the RKC and SFG. Both certifications require not only knowing the curriculum, but as an instructor, I must pass performance, technique, and strength tests to keep my credentials current. Staying active and testing myself regularly helps me connect with the challenges the people I work with face when truly testing themselves to change for the better. I've also done extensive work in functional neurology, which has equipped me to work with multiple age groups and individuals seeking high-level performance. Having trained with the founder of Z-Health, Dr. Eric Cobb, has catapulted my understanding of functional neurology to eradicate pain and unleash performance with my clients. Earning my CSCS designation is something I greatly value, as it is the gold standard in athletic training and development. Combining all this knowledge and experience, I am confident I can help you achieve your goals safely and efficiently.
