I have been having weekly Spanish lessons from Spanish55 for almost 2 months now. I greatly appreciate the one on one lessons with my Spanish coach and how each week we are able to take on new subjects. What I have been learning will help me both in my work life and social life. I highly recommend giving Spanish55 a try!

Lynne is great! I was unsure about trying yet another Spanish tutor, but it was necessary as my girls were not doing well with the never ending train of substitute teachers the school was giving them for their class. Lynne brought it all together so that it made sense and my girls could finally get some continuity. I don't know what we would have done with out her. In just a couple of weeks they were on track and their grades were back up where they should have been. Lynne didn't even need to know what the class was doing, she spoke with my girls and started to build on what they knew. It worked and we are very happy.

Laura tutored me in my beginning stages of learning the Spanish language. She was extremely helpful and encouraged me to minor in the subject because I liked it so much; Laura also motivated me to study abroad. Within a year after completing the course she assisted me with at the University of New Hampshire in Manchester, I went abroad to live with a Costa Rican family. During that time I took classes at an institute and learned a great deal about their culture. A year later I graduated with my minor in Spanish (plus a degree in business) and traveled abroad to South America on a backpacking trip with a friend I met on the study abroad trip. On this trip I enjoyed talking to locals and enjoying their culture as I did in Costa Rica. I will never forget the experiences I had during my time there in Peru, Chile, and Argentina. Upon returning from my trip I got a job as an In House Recruiter for Adecco Staffing, and even there at times it is necessary for me to speak to individuals over the phone and in person in Spanish. All of these experiences started at UNHM with Laura's help and I know there will be new travels that I can use this beautiful language in. Thank you so much Laura! Spanish has changed my life forever!

With a growing business, especially throughout LATAM, Spanish comprehension quickly became a must for me. I have been a student of Fabian for over 4 years and his coaching style has enabled me to not only comprehend Spanish, but also has accelerated my conversational proficiency. Fabiano has also been instrumental in translating many time sensitive legal documents from Spanish to English. I would highly recommend Fabian for Spanish lessons regardless of proficiency and also recommend his translation services.

I do not take Spanish lessons from Rosa, but attend the Club De Lectura book club. I love it! Rosa keeps the discussion going by excellent questions, but never takes over. She also gives us important information about the authors we read in order to enhance our understanding. I am the poorest Spanish speaker in the group, but my opinions are never made to feel less valuable. I love just hearing the good Spanish of the other members and learning more each week. I would recommend any endeavor presented by Rosa most highly. You won't be disappointed!

Laura was my Spanish instructor for over a year in New York. I have tried many times to learn Spanish but it was always frustrating and slow. Laura was my instructor in a beginner's group course and she really changed my outlook on learning Spanish. She is patient and explains complex topics in an understandable way. I enjoyed my course with her so much that I decided to work with her one-on-one and that is when I really started seeing an improvement in my Spanish language skills. I highly recommend Laura as an exceptional Spanish language instructor.

It's abundantly clear that he cares about his students and the progress they make. Edd has a kind, gentle nature that makes his students feel comfortable and at ease while learning. I've been a student at PBO for over 3 years and my Spanish has improved dramatically! Caro is GREAT and she knows what she's doing. She is creative, smart, fun, and has managed to attract great students who are enjoyable to be with in class. She uses the perfect combination of instruction, coaching and guided conversation. Grammar lessons? Vocabulary? Verb conjugation? Yes, yes and yes. But there are also games, stories, music, show-and-tell, jokes, idioms, word usages, and lots of conversation - structured and informal. One of the aspects I appreciate most about class is the opportunity to about the cultural significance of language and important country-to-country differences. Caro is a delightful person and I highly recommend taking a class from her if you're looking for a Spanish-learning environment that is productive and focused, but also fun and supportive.

Some years ago Carrie was recommended to me as a first rate Spanish teacher. I after one lesson I was grateful for the referral. She is the most skilled language teacher I have had and was able to quickly evaluate my level of competence in the language and address the areas where I needed work. As a result I saw immediate progress in my ability to speak, write and understand the language. For those who are serious about learning Spanish, Carrie is the perfect teacher.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
