He did great work, fast, neat and reasonably priced. I will definitely have him back to do more work. I had a fence that needed fixing and it now looks perfect. He is building a ramp in my yard, hanging shelves in my kitchen and installing a ceiling fan next.

I've literally communicated with or contacted at least five contractors over the past two months to complete this flooring job. Salinas was an answer to prayer! Whereas other sites or contractors told me to wait and/or never got back to me or took others jobs, Vyron responded promptly within an hour when I posted the job on Thumbtack. Vyron and Pablo did excellent work putting down a new subfloor and plywood, then installing an LVP (see photos) and a new toilet (not pictured). Vyron communicated about every step of repair and installation and about every purchase for the job. He takes pride in his work and left the work area clean. I'm so glad that the job is finished and that it was done well.

Guansito and his team were really great to work with. They were possibly the most responsive, punctual, and responsible team I have ever worked with. He responded immediately, quoted quickly, and completed our job in record time. (We were in a real time crunch and he exceeded our expectations in terms of his completion of the job.) He came back without complaint when there was a slight misstep (we share the blame because I was not there when a particular decision was made about how much rock to put in) and handled the matter professionally and was beyond fair. Came back out to assist us with sprinklers and again was kind, responsive, and thorough. Would highly recommend his team to execute any outdoor project. (We have a drought tolerant/succulent garden and I don't think design of this type of garden is their specialty, but they rose to the occasion and came through with flying colors.

CJ’s work is unmatched. He told me it was going to look great, he was wrong it’s fantastic. I have a tiered backyard and he replaced my 2nd level. My only regret, I didn’t have him do the first level. We are now exploring other projects!

Chris was a true professional and you can tell by his work. We had Chris stain a fence we recently had installed at our house and he did an incredible job doing so. He cares about his customers and wants to make sure he gets their approval before considering a job complete. I highly recommend him for jobs you need taken care of at your home.

Ruben was awesome to work with. He responded quickly to my request and was flexible about timing (I needed a job done early Saturday morning before hosting an outdoor party). His team worked extremely quickly and did a great job weeding and removing vines from a fence. They also left everything very clean.

Big wind in Fairfield took a part of the backyard fence out. I had three people come to the house for quotes and Kris (with Economy Home Repair) came in with the most reasonable bid. He also came across as more knowledgeable and professional than the other two gentleman -- so we went with him and were VERY glad that we did! Top quality material and top quality work. Knocked it out quickly and cleaned up like they were never there at all. I look forward to his working on other projects for us. Thank-you Kris and crew!

We hired Lifetime Remodeling in the summer of 2017 to do a first floor addition to our home in Millbrae. The project involved adding 400 square feet to our house, which included expanding the living room and adding a new bedroom and a new bathroom. It was wonderful working with Sam and his team at every step of the way. Their bid was very competitive compared to the many others I got, and the estimated time for completion (about four months) was much shorter than most of the other quotes. Lifetime's responsive customer service and attention to detail made our lives so much easier. Here are just a few examples of things they did to minimize our stress. When strong winds blew the construction fence over during off hours, they came out here quickly to get it back up and weigh it down with sandbags. When it came time to block off the parts of the house being demolished, they helped us move furniture and cover it carefully so that it would not get damaged or dirty during construction. When they needed to move the wiring for our internet access, they made sure to reconnect it promptly. The temporary wall they built was very sturdy and effective at blocking out dust, so we had no problem continuing to live in the house throughout the construction. Sam also closely inspected all the work and often caught adjustments to be made that I did not notice. For example, even though the interior painting looked fine to me, Sam decided that he wanted another coat. When we did point out other things that needed adjusting, such as leveling out certain fixtures, the team promptly fixed them. When I asked for a different design for our recessed lighting at the last minute, even after some of them had already been installed, Sam accommodated the request. Sam checked in with me often, so I always felt well informed about the next steps coming up and what I needed to plan for. This was awesome because I learned that it can be agonizing to pick out tiles, hardwood, hardware, etc. for a project like this, especially for someone like me doing it for the first time. It was also helpful to have Sam's recommendations for suppliers for the finishes and fixtures. We were really impressed that Lifetime finished the project pretty much right on schedule and with absolutely no cost overruns. To make this happen, most days, Lifetime had a team of two to four workers here by 8 a.m., and they worked steadily for the entire day. They also often worked on weekends. After Lifetime finished the addition to the house, we ended up also hiring them to do landscaping for our front yard and replacing our concrete driveway with paver stones. They also did a great job on this, and we are so happy with and amazed by how our house looks now. Remodeling inevitably involves many hard decisions and a lot of time, energy, and money invested by the homeowner! The last thing you need is a contractor who adds unnecessary stress, yet it seemed like everyone I talked to had horror stories about their contractors. We are so grateful that Sam and Lifetime made it a wonderful experience for us.

Alejandro was great to work with and he did a great job building our fence. We gathered a few quotes and Alejandro's was the least expensive and included the haul away of our old fence which was covered in plants and ivy. We are very satisfied with the high quality and look of our fence. I recommend Alejandro!

Victor put in a wood fence for me with two gates. He arrived when he said he would and worked hard to finish the project. He also made a reasonable quote for the work. The weather slowed him down a little bit, but that was out of everyone's control. I would definitely hire him again for another project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
