Brad is top notch. My wife and I hired him this past Saturday for our wedding. He was on time stayed a little extra and exceeded our expectations. He is a real artist. He is so instinctively quick and able to capture moments. He also has a strong crew. We opted for photos and video with Brad. We had children in our wedding party whom Brad photographed vivid and candidly. If anyone is in the market for a wedding photographer hire Brad on our recommendation, he could not have done a better job. Pure EXCELLENCE! Irene and Mark

Let me start off by saying that Carlos is AMAZING! He is not only very professional, he really knows his stuff and is really friendly and personable! Carlos came to our home to talk to us about what he can do for our party, showed us some light effects and we went over the music we would like to have at our party (Halloween Birthday Party). Carlos arrived early the day of the party and set up everything and the lights he set up were really a hit with the guests! His sound system and screen were so cool and it was fun being able to see the videos as the music played. Carlos kept the party going and interacted with the guests and got them to dance and get involved. I would HIGHLY recommend Carlos for any gathering you may have and we will forever use him for all our parties! Thank you Carlos for all your hard work and being a part of our party!

This was a video shoot for 120 workout exercises on a Sunday. ROF was very good with communication, very prompt and did a great job with the filming. The videos were returned to be very quickly. Everything went much better than I even hoped. They did a great job with everything. I will definitely use them again!

Steve is a consumate professional, really easy to work with, and I felt like I received great value from his services above and beyond what I had hoped for. He arrived on time and we were able to begin immediately after make-up and hair were finished. I felt comfortable talking to him and requesting special things as well as relied on him for his directional expertise. When we wrapped, I knew I had enough film for my video, and even more than I had anticipated. I will be using Steve again in the future. I highly recommend his services! Karin

I really enjoyed working with Louie. He filmed interviews and created a video clip to be included in an e-textbook. Throughout the process he was easy to communicate with and gave me regular updates so I always knew the project was on track. I'm happy and impressed with how the final product turned out. Louie was able to give it a professional look that was beyond what I expected. I would be happy to work with him again in the future.

I needed a combination of event photographs and video of a stage show to capture a special event. I found the perfect match when I hired Blue Child Entertainment to do the job. Landi and her team were extremely professional, knowledgably, friendly, and easy to work with. I received nothing but stellar feedback from my guest regarding the professionalism and friendliness of Landi and her team. And I could not be more pleased than I am with the final product. The photographs are wonderful and it is clear on the video that a lot of time and care was given in the editing process. I would highly recommend Blue Child Entertainment to anyone with photography and video needs – Charlie Gruber

Elena did an amazing job for my really simple courthouse wedding. She made it look so beautiful! Not only did she show professionalism but she had so much patience during the waiting process which we appreciated so much. She gave us direction on how to pose and went above and beyond to get the perfect shot! All of my photos looked great even before editing and then the finished product came out beautifully. I highly recommend Elena she’s super talented and a great people person. She will make your special occasion memorable :)

I've worked with Palo on several photography and videography projects, but the highlight was the video he made for my sister's wedding. He was on time, professional, and gracious for the entire day, which was so helpful amid the stress of a wedding. Palo didn't miss a thing, and the footage from the wedding is perfect. From tiny details on the dress and rings, to gorgeous aerial shots of the venue, and sweet moments throughout the evening, the final video is the perfect recap of an awesome day. The video is set to music perfectly, with snippets of vows which were an unexpected and amazing surprise. Everyone in my family LOVES the video, especially the bride and groom. If you haven't considered videography for your wedding, do it--and book Palo. You will not be disappointed!

I hired Damon to run additional camera on a three camera shoot for a concert. He was punctual, efficient with setup and flexible with last minute setup re-arrangements and his framing and camera work was great. He was also very courteous to staff and audience. Would hire again, no question.

I searched for a while to find videographers I could feel comfortable with. I knew as soon as I spoke with Erica and Laura on the phone that they were the ones. I could tell from their enthusiasm and how much they were able to listen that they would make me feel at ease the day of my wedding. Everyone loved them and commented on their positive energy and also how they were so courteous and polite. My favorite shots in our video were some great closeups they took during the ceremony. The video was edited very nicely and in a fun way and included guest interviews which added a nice personal touch. We must have watched it 20 times in the week we got it and relived each moment together. They got it to us faster than expected and we were both very happy. My husband and I were not sure if we even wanted video at first, but now feel this was one of the most important decisions we made. I would definitely recommend The Vision Field.

Commercial and Event Shoot - we hired Ron to do the event shoot for our new facility opening and do a few external images, he delivered 10 folds, he brought his drone and was able to fly it around our facility to capture stunning video and still images. We then hired Ron the second time around to take commercial photographs of our products and equipment and once again has delivered amazing results! I recommend Ron for any photography and videography needs!

Total Thumbs UP to the Video that was taken for my mom's 90th Birthday celebration. Nino was awesome, he recorded everything that we requested. The editing was perfect. During the evening we showed a montage and Nino recorded the slide presentation and it turned out perfect on the DVD. I will definitely use Thumbs Up whenever i have a need for video recording. My family said that this was the best recording and editing that they have ever seen! Thanks Thumbs Up for an amazing job and capturing every moment of this special evening :) The Gonzales' and Villa's

Rolling Tide is a brides dream come true! First let me just say if you’re on the fence about getting videography for your wedding don’t be. It’s a complete must find it in the budget to make it happen. We literally watched our wedding video 20x in a row when Dan sent it to us. It’s amazing being able to relive the day! And I couldn’t recommend Rolling tide any more than I can. They are extremely professional, so sweet and fun to have (last thing you want is a stressed vendor at your wedding believe me), and their work is literally Hollywood level! Their cinematic style is incredible. They told us day one that their goal is to make something we’d watch for the rest of our lives and love, and they’ve delivered!

Used Hazel for video and photos of my big day. I was stressed and planned a short engagement. I found Erica through a friend and I am SO GRATEFUL. I cried when I saw the video and wanted to frame just about every picture. The style was pretty unique for my wedding (brown's pinks and grays) and the final product was just what I hoped for but was not expecting. THANK YOU! You're the best!

Okay, first thing first... Luis was referred to me by a dear friend and from the moment I gave Luis a call for his services I understood why my friend insisted that we work together. Luis is easy going, he knew exactly how to grab my vision of my new home video and gave positive feedback I never thought about before. Fast forward 3 weeks, he shot my video and WOW was I impressed. I am a perfectionist and have high expectations but I was shocked that Luis was able to surpass them. Thanks a lot Luis for taking your time in making my video unique and creative :)

Tattooed recently did the videography for my wedding in San Diego on Sunset Cliffs. Their service was fantastic! After a couple quick phone calls, we were able to communicate our vision to them on what we would like and they completely understood right away. Jordan and Harrison showed up early to start the videography and make sure they captured everything which was great! Pre-ceremony they helped guide both the grooms party and bridal party on ideas to really make the video what I wanted. During the ceremony, they discretely used a drone to capture my beach front wedding on Sunset Cliffs from all angles (something I didn't even know they would do for us! What a treat!!!). Finally, at the reception they captured everything I could possibly imagine and stayed quite late through the night to make sure every important memory was filmed. From our first dance, to cutting the cake and then cutting the dance floor, they got it! They were very professional yet with a warm demeanor that made everyone around them enjoy their company. I highly recommend them to everyone if you want to have all your special moments captured in the most beautiful way.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
