The kids at my daughter's 5th birthday party loved it. He brought little music shakers for all the kids so they felt like they were in a band. And great music to listen to as you're eating and hanging out with friends. Thanks Tucker

I've been taking guitar lessons with Kimberly since the beginning of 2011. At the time I'd had several years of lessons using a traditional method on acoustic guitar and was looking for a teacher who could help me focus on electric blues rock and move me beyond my intermediate skill level. Kimberly has a real focus on and talent for teaching. My lessons are tailored to meet my interests. A large part of the lesson is devoted to learning her method for blues soloing--at least 5 approaches to improvisation and comping. After several years, I've come to see how these approaches interweave, complement each other and have become an intuitive part of my musical vocabulary. Also, because I expressed an interest, part of the lesson involves sight reading, learning blues and jazz theory, developing rhythmic playing sense, and learning a few favorite solos. Kimberly has an amazing ability to tab out and teach any song you give her. Which leads to the best part--after 6 months I was invited to play with one of her ensemble classes. While I was absolutely petrified with fear at the beginning, this has turned into one of the highlights of my week every week. It is just downright fun! It's a safe and forgiving environment where you can make mistakes and learn, or try things out that might flop, or turn into something cool. Every teacher and guitar magazine article all point to the need to play with other musicians to develop your skills and this is where Kimberly Allison really delivers. I feel that I could now sit in with other musicians and contribute. I give my highest recommendation for taking lessons with Kimberly.

Taylor created a very professional, radio ready song for me. He works extremely fast and knows how to construct modern music that sounds like he hired a full band. The mix was fantastic music and singer alike. I highly recommend Taylor for your project.

We loved rock band Reckless. They have a great repertoire and well rehearsed. Voices and talents are excellent. I could not have asked for more. We hired them for a surprise birthday party and our guests loved them. Kim the band leader has her act together and responded promptly to any and all questions. Super easy to work with and a wonderful addition to your party. Would hire them again in a heartbeat.

The John Brown Band played the Redondo Beach 4th of July Block Party and had the whole neighborhood rockin' out all night long. What a party!! After I heard them play, I knew I wanted to hire them for my wedding in San Diego on August 29. We had a great experience working with John and would recommend them in a heartbeat. The #1 comment from our wedding guests was how awesome the band was!! Upbeat song selection, dance-ability, and timing were perfect, even with no rehearsal on the Bridal Party Entrance!!! They even played a very special song (Harvest Moon) which I had totally forgotten to request - just perfect. And we got some GREAT pictures. :)

This group is AMAZING!!!! I booked them for my mother's 65th birthday celebration and the whole crowd loved them! Truly exceptional and superior service from beginning to end. Rodrigo was extremely helpful and polite, from obtaining details for cost--(which by the way, was sooo reasonable, given the fact that their performance is of high caliber!), to figuring what type of performance would be most fitting for the event. And Jacqueline Valderrama--- My goodness!!! What a supreme, beautiful, and most heartfelt voice!!! Although I requested mostly bolero/mariachi type of music, I'm pleased to know that they play all kinds of musical styles from latin band, Cuban, Andean, upbeat, even church music for weddings, etc.. pretty much anything you need, i'm sure they can try to work with it. They are definitely the Go-to band for ALL of your musical needs. I will tell everyone about them and will book them again if I have another event to coordinate. Anyone looking for a fabulous musical group?? I know EXACTLY who to recommend and you won't regret it! EL MEJOR GRUPO PARA TODAS OCASIONES!! NO SE ARREPENTIRA!!!! http://rorodriguez.com/home

We had an acoustic guitarist from the band play our ceremony and an 8 piece band (the usual 6 plus 2 horns) play our wedding reception - the red letter players killed it! Malynda was very easy to work with and the band was extremely well priced compared to their competition. Everyone at the party still can't stop talking about the amazing band. Highly recommended!!

Lucas is great! Equally at home with country, blues and gospel, as he is with David Bowie or Pink Floyd or classical or jazz or whatever. He is a ardent lover of many musical styles and an enthusiastic teacher! I got to learn by choosing songs I wanted to play, he took time to transcribe the chords and turn into valuable lessons. Great experience, great guy!

Absoulute has played for California Yacht Club's biggest regatta party two years in a row, and both times, the crowd wouldn't let them stop. The band was perfectly tuned in to the vibe of the crowd and everyone was dancing. As the organizer, they could not have made my life any easier. They were all super to work with -- on time, professional, easy going, and eager to please.

I've been involved with the LAPC for about 3 years, using it for production and most currently as a rehearsal space and attending the weekly open mic. James has flawlessly mixed albums for my previous band and has produced amazing music with my current project. As a rehearsal space, the sound and equipment are quality along with it being a unique aesthetic in itself, setting a creative and motivating vibe. The colorful lighting and tree-sized mural lining the hallway makes you want to play like you're in a music video. The open mics are a great place to share a fresh song, or meet new people and artists weekly. I can't speak highly enough about the abundance of love and talent that is at L.A. Producers Club! Highly recommend, if nothing else, coming by to hang out under the disco ball teepee and hear some comedy and jams on a Wednesday night!

Mischief made my event. We had a dance floor and the band kept it full all evening long. They had great groove, had varied song list. Marlena not only has great voice - truly star quality - but was amazingly varied in style for music she sang and she certainly kept the guys attention. If she wasn't so nice I would hate her :-) the lead guitar player clear knows his craft - his solos were crazy good and fantastic job singing. Harmony amount the members was impressive often in 4 parts! They showed up on time, were professional, interacted very well with my friends, and put on an amazing show in addition to the amazing sound. I would definitely hire them again!

You were great, and you kept the young and old hopping. They all didn't want the music to end. You are a terrific DJ and MC." - Marlene Silva, grandmother of the bride ===================================== ALSO - You are invited to a '70s disco show and party with The Bootie Shakers, a rocking '70s disco dance band! Come "boogie down!" The Bootie Shakers are among the hottest '70s disco bands around. The band is perfect for parties, weddings, clubs, fairs, festivals and a great time, anytime! About

We're a high-energy multi-cover band that performs music, like classic rock to music that is current (i.e. Rolling Stones to Katy Perry). We have all of the sounds pertinent to making the band sound just like the album. We're a very pro band that carries their own PA, as well as backline gear, such as drum kit, amplifiers, and all instruments needed for such gigs. In addition, the band is very well-traveled, having played for the U.S. Armed Forces twice in both Kuwait/Iraq, as well as in Japan on 3 tours at military installations.

    About

We are a very polished eight-piece horn band who has been rocking the dance floor now for over 40 years. We have performed for over 500 weddings and receptions and incorporate a DJ system to cover breaks and all special dances needed.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
