When our world was turned upside down and we had to move for a new job opportunity, Frank, Chris, and Kenny, aka Eugene, came to the rescue. We took care of the packing and Moving with Caution and Care took care of the rest. If you are looking for a moving company that gets the job done right, then you should go with them. Their price beat every other company we looked at (4 others) and they were very accommodating and did it in record time. Bonus points too for taking apart our Ikea bed frame and putting it back together with no problems. If you have ever taken apart Ikea anything, it generally doesn't go back together and holds up. The guys had great attitudes and any negative reviews you see on here are propably posted by the type of person that causes their own problems. These guys are very professional and do the right things when it comes to moving a family. I have moved us 5 times on my own, and they did everything I would have done and more. Thank you Moving with Caution and Care! If we ever move again we are calling you and only you. P.S. Eugene we missed you on move in day!

Don't typically write reviews on services and products. However, my experience with Ruben and his crew yesterday could not go by without acknowledgement. It is good to know that there are some very intelligent and professional people in this line of work. The communication leading up to the move with Ruben was outstanding. He's a very smart young guy who will be very successful. You are not dealing with an old fart who is tired of the work but just doing it to get by. He was training a new member of this team on my move and watching Ruben train his guy and give clear concise instruction was very impressive. They got the stuff out of the sellers home and into my home with smoothness and grace. I learned a few things myself just observing. I did not realize there was a science to it all. I was just moving a high end dining table and chairs that I purchased from the seller's home to my house. I would and will recommend Ruben for moving services for all of my contacts going forward. This young man takes his service and business very seriously. I have no doubt in my mind that he will take care of your stuff as if it was worth millions of dollars!

Hire this guy. Don't hesitate, he will exceed your expectations. Nick is able to overcome any moving obstacle or hurdle . . . I know, I had them all. Nick came to the rescue within hours of my desperate request. He was early, a seasoned pro, and he brought reinforcements. These guys work hard --- really hard -- are incredibly proficient and treat everything they touch as they would their own possessions. They even do the packing if needed. Hire this guy. He is more than affordable. You will not be disappointed. I cannot thank Nick and his crew enough for bailing me out of the most unorganized, chaotic and ridiculous move ever. 5 Stars. Hire this guy.

Mary did a complete move out clean, including bathrooms, kitchen appliances and floors. She was very responsive and flexible with scheduling, arrived on time and did the thorough job I needed to make the house ready for new tenants. Not only did she do an excellent job, but the price was very reasonable. I would definitely use Mary's Home Services again.

When I called M&M, I was worried sick because I was so far behind on my move packing. 4 hours after I called, their 3-person crew arrived at my house and started work. They packed 50 boxes for me and shrink-wrapped my most valued furniture in 3 hours, and were very polite about taking special requests and checking that I was satisfied at each step. And they worked in my dusty and cluttered house without a single complaint. I did catch a couple of small problems with their work, and I won't know right away what's in every box, but I was hugely relieved to have their help. Thanks, M&M!

I was extremely happy with the price first and foremost. Secondly, Cory made sure to inform me that it would be more money if there was more to pick up. I sent him a picture and he confirmed the price with me before he showed up to do the pick up. My mother was home, but I will still comfortable with me not being there becuase he took care of the loading. No bad feedback from my mother, so 5 stars it is!! I will be calling him back when I need his services again.

I want to thank Darin and his team with my move. The three of them were very professional and extremely courteous. I had looked into a handful of local movers and Darin won my business by clearly communicating what would be provided in the move and how it would be handled. The care the team took in handling my items wins my business for future moves as well.

Working with any sort of vendor, key to my experience, my "first impression" moment if you will, is communication. From first contact thru to the completion of the job, Dymtro's comm skills were first rate. Every question or concern was was responded to quickly and politely. That is star number one. Star two is for punctuality. They arrived almost to the minute of the time I was told they would be there. So between the good communication and them showing up in time, I'm already at ease about the move. Star three, professionalism, I've been moving rock and roll gear around the globe most of my adult life, so I'm no stranger to packing cubes in a truck logistically. So, when they arrived I already had a (at least to get us going) a plan for the first few rows. Dymtro listened with out any "duh" or " yeah right" attitude and let me say my piece. He then ran down the way he would get started, I knew then we were on the same page. So we were off. I watched the first few rows go on the truck and knew I would not have to oversee what they were doing. And man were they moving quick!! Star 4 is for work quality, there's nothing worse than being around people who don't like what they're doing (for me at least) that was certainly not the case with this crew, all smiles and working hard too. Also, they had included in the cost all the items needed for a move. They had ample supplies of packing blankets, tape, shrink wrap, hand trucks and dollies. Everything one would need to get the job done quickly while protecting my stuff. Star five is for value. I did crunch the numbers prior to hiring movers, and I gotta say, the difference between getting a truck on my own, and just labor at both ends was a wash. So, for literally no extra money I got a crew at both ends, a truck with all the moving supplies, and an 80 mile move with no headaches. I probably actually saved money. So, if you are considering having Dymtro do a move for you, look no further. They are 5 star, top notch, 10 out of 10, "refer a friend" good. You will not be disappointed. I hope this was helpful.

I would highly recommend Pete's Moving Services!!! They go above and beyond and provide exceptional customer service! I first heard about Pete's Moving Services through a close family member who moved from San Jose to San Diego. I was impressed that they were happy because they tend to be very critical, but they were blow away by their hard work, knowledge, and friendly staff. After hearing about how happy my family members were, I decided to give them a try when I moved to a different home. I called the owner/operator, Pete, and he was very friendly and helpful over the phone when going over the moving details. The day of the move, the guys showed up at 7am sharp, and ready to work. They were very efficient with their time and made sure I was a happy camper! Oh and all of my antiques and collectibles arrived at their new home without a scratch. Once again, I highly recommend these guys!

Jason was very professional and so helpful with our move in Davis. We already had a moving truck so he came to help us pack the truck. He shrink wrapped EVERYTHING so there was no damage and helped to minimize shifting during the move. He was very meticulous and super friendly. Would definitely recommend him for moving services large or small in the greater Sacramento area.

Manuel is a very intelligent, very strong, and very hard worker. He has a long track record of helping me - doing odd jobs including construction, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, moving assistance (packing, loading the truck etc). He also excels at computer technology and photography. In my years working as a Realtor, Manuel was my go to guy - there was almost nothing that he could not do. He always shows up with a smile on his face, eager to get to work and not just do the job, but do it correctly. Yes, he is something of a perfectionist - which is very refreshing in a world where a lot of people just don't care enough to do a job right the first time. Manuel takes a lot of pride in his workmanship. He has very high ethics and is completely honest, loyal and dependable. I would trust him with everything I owned. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
