Introduction: In the past year, In addition to completing 24 hours of intensive training with my Xifu, I took Insight LA's Mindful Self-Compassion and Mindfulness Based Stress Relief courses. In the prior two years I extensively studied Tai Chi related Clinical studies that are available on Pubmed.gov. Both of these efforts has has deepened my practice and teaching style and enriched my ability to provide mindfulness training through the internal arts of Tai Chi and Qigong. I am a brain cancer survivor. Tai Chi and Qigong were very important in my rehabilitation process. I am quite good at working with individuals who are dealing with challenges such as limited mobility as well as people who are just trying to feel better. The recent advances I have made in maintaining mindfulness throughout my practice are among the most satisfying ones I have made in my 26 years of practice. I look forward to sharing these simple steps to keep the mind quiet while we practice with my students. I love this work. I know that when my students finish a class, they are going to feel better than they did when they started. I love that with practice and dedication my students are adding tools to their wellness kits, practices that that they can take with them where ever they go and no special equipment or facilities are necessary. I share multiple modalities my empowered students use to reach their wellness goals. I know how much it has helped me in the past 26 years, that I started with no experience and that now I am a teacher. That means pretty much anyone can do the same :^)

I’ve wanted to learn Qigong/Tai Chi for a long time and I’m really enjoying Richard’s class. Even on nights when my mind is racing and I think it couldn’t possibly quiet down, it inevitably does since Qigong is truly meditation in movement. If my body is feeling tight and rigid, the fluid forms help relax me and get my energy flowing more evenly. If I’m feeling low in energy, the slow rhythmic movement softly lifts me. It’s a beautiful thing to feel as well as to watch as the class moves in graceful synchronicity as a collective. It’s very harmonizing in every way. Richard has a gentle and understanding spirit and is sensitive to the unique needs of each participant and anyone with physical challenges, reminding us to modify any moves for our greatest comfort. His long years of experience are evident in the mindful and attentive way he conducts the class. I leave feeling grounded, balanced, peaceful and pretty happy. I feel the benefits of doing Qigong on all levels and am very grateful for his class. Carrie Higgins

Having only attended 4, maybe 5, sessions, my experience is limited to the practice we could cover on those occasions. I found that I prefer following the instructor's movements with less instruction spoke or analysis. I do realise the importance of some verbal instruction. It seems my movement would be coming into alignment and my mind quieting from the day, then something would be said about the movement or how one of us reflect it in our own movement and my mind would be drawn to the words knocking me off balance. My contribution would be better if i continue practice at home, but many life things going on during that stretch. The associate appears to have good knowledge and feel for what he is doing.

I took an hour-long Tai Chi class with Rick. I appreciated the slow, patient pace that Rick took with the class. He repeated small movement segments many times, and we slowly built the sequence. The imagery and metaphor used was very helpful to quickly get the feeling for the movement and to enter a meditative state even while learning something new.

I recently started taking a Tai Chi class taught by Richard Harvey. In my opinion, he is an excellent teacher; he is patient, explains the movements clearly and demonstrates them well, and shows a breadth of knowledge about what he is teaching that is inspiring to the students.
