My daughter has taken a few lessons with Carl, and she is very happy with his style of teaching. I hired Carl with the need to prepare my daughter for the SAT exam. Carl was extremely flexible in scheduling the tutoring sessions around my daughters schedule. I have enjoyed listening to Carl tutor my daughter greatly. He has a great sense of humor, and has a special method in teaching, which can just about help anyone in finding the answer and/or struggles that one is having in learning the English language properly. Each time that Carl arrives for the sessions, he is prepared and ready to tutor without wasting any time. Carl is a very knowledgeable and an experienced tutor, and I believe he has the best method in preparing for the SAT. As a bonus, he is very nice, and reasonably priced considering how much he is helping my daughter to prepare for her first life-changing exam. I would definitely use his services again, and would highly recommend him to anyone.
I am so thankful we found Jeff!!! We had worked previously with a different SAT tutor who clearly didn't know what he was doing. Although Jeff was priced higher than some of the other tutors on Thumbtack, I wanted to see if spending a little more would make a difference. It did - we just got the scores back, and my son raised his score by 400 points! I cannot recommend working with Jeff enough. My son loved having him come to the house. We will miss Jeff, but I hope others can have the type of experience we did. You won't regret it!
The best tutoring service your kids will ever find. No other tutoring center has the same experiance, quality, and the tutoring. They really make sure you know your stuff and make you feel confident before your tests.
Sarajane is currently helping preparing our son Tom, a Junior at Santa Monica High School, for his SAT tests. In a short time she has honed in on exactly what areas Tom needs to focus on and tailored her tutoring sessions and his self study accordingly. She provides structure, direction and accountability to the study process which is invaluable and could not have been achieved with him studying on his own or even in a group setting. Sarajane is very friendly and warm and is able to connect with our son in a way that gained his respect immediately. I would not hesitate to recommend Sarajane.
FocusedPrep provides high-quality, results-oriented, online instruction and in-person instruction (in the Los Angeles, CA area) for the following subject areas: * Test prep for ACT, SAT, GMAT, LSAT and GRE * Math tutoring for all levels * First year law school prep tutoring FocusedPrep also provides admission counseling (for college admittance and law school admittance) as well as general academic counseling. As the head instructor and founder, I started FocusedPrep in order to provide a very customized and structured approach to instruction that maximizes results in the shortest time possible. I have taught for over 10 years in a variety of professional mediums, and I have literally worked with thousands of students over the years. I earned a BA in mathematics from the University of Washington (2009) and a JD from UCLA School of Law (2015). I have also taken various courses at UCLA Anderson School of Business. I am planning to take the California Bar Exam. My unique educational background allows me to provide a comprehensive approach for students of all levels and abilities, whether preparing for an upcoming algebra exam or developing a systematic plan for the SAT, LSAT, ACT, GMAT or GRE. I produce maximized results in the most efficient amount of time. I have seen firsthand what is required to achieve excellent academic results, and I impart these lessons through my teaching. My teaching philosophy is built around providing customized instruction that is tailored to the student's individual needs, abilities and learning styles. This is crucial because each student interprets and learns material in a unique way. I provide homework and assignments for each of my students, and I also provide progress reports for long-term students. I am patient with each of my students, and I strive to always make them feel as comfortable as possible to ask questions and clarify difficult areas. FocusedPrep is build on a fundamentals-based approach that requires students to spend time and energy in their studies in order to achieve real results. Improvement requires a high level of effort from the student, and I do not promise unrealistic score results. Students who have followed my advice, studied diligently, and followed the course plans have achieved amazing results. In addition, they have developed long-lasting habits that will help them to continue to achieve success. Some of my most recent students' accomplishments include the following: * Prospective law student who was admitted to Berkeley's Boalt School of Law (who I both tutored for the LSAT and worked with during his admission cycle) for the Class of 2015 * Prospective law student who was admitted to University of Pennsylvania's School of Law, Emory School of Law, and University of Michigan School of Law (who I both tutored for the LSAT and worked with during his admission cycle) for the Class of 2015 * Prospective college student who was admitted to the University of Colorado for the Class of 2015 I try to be as flexible as possible with scheduling. I meet with students 7 days a week on mornings, afternoons and evenings. Although I have a 12-hour cancellation policy, I am often able to reschedule a student even if cancellations are not made within this time frame. I teach students both online and in-person. While rates vary depending on the type of instruction (general instruction vs. LSAT instruction, for example), online tutoring starts at $70.00/hour and in-person instruction starts at $80.00/hour. Package discounts and group rates are also available. Online tutoring is conducted just like an in-person lesson through the use of an online whiteboard, high-definition HD camera, and a noise-cancelling headset. Most of my students are currently online students, and many of them prefer the online platform due to its convenience. In-person instruction is generally conducted at UCLA in Westwood, but I am also happy to travel to another location if that is more convenient. An additional travel fee, based on time/day and distance, applies depending on this alternative location. Generally, lessons run anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours per session. Choosing a tutor is an important decision. For this reason, I provide every student with a completely free, no-obligation, 30-minute online consultation session in order to better understand your goals and ultimately determine if I am a good fit. This session is treated just like an actual lesson. In addition, I am always happy to provide references of current students. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I usually respond within several hours. I am excited to help new students, and I hope to work with you soon!
I would highly recommend Great Expectations College Prep for anyone with a child planning to attend college!! I've had two daughters go through her program. From SAT/ACT prep to the college application process. Jennifer and her staff gave my girls the confidence and knowledge to take ownership of the college process. Jen and her staff gave all the tools my girls needed to do their best on their tests and guide them through the schools that best met all their needs. The entire process was VERY easy, without stress and my girls happy. I'll be using them for daughter no. 3 in a few years.
Victor is a genuine, intelligent, creative person, and an excellent tutor. I refer him with great confidence. Victor has an admirable ability to relate to different types of personalities and learning styles. He not only adapts his teaching to our daughters' unique situations, but seems excited by the challenge. Our children attend different high schools, and have their own unique talents and learning styles and challenges. One attends an academically rigorous private high school, while the other attends an academically challenging, local public school. Victor has tutored them both. Whether it's SAT tutoring or weekly math and bio, or a brush-up before finals, Victor is there. He is prompt, professional, highly competent and above all, energized by teaching. He asks questions. He does not spoon feed; rather, he takes the time to help our daughters discover the answers for themselves. My 17 year old earned a great SAT score, and a substantial 4-year scholarship to the university of her choice. She applied early-action to three schools, and gained admittance to them all. We credit Victor for helping her realize this dream. I now look forward to what my younger daughter will achieve, with his help, as he not only teaches her in the way she needs to be taught, but he cares. She knows this. He establishes a genuine relationship with his students; he helps them gain confidence, and trust themselves. I honestly cannot say enough about Victor, and the impact he has made on our family. He takes the worry and the (dare I say) struggle out of high school, creating space for my husband and I to be more supportive and less "annoying" to our children. It is a relief and a comfort to know such an intelligent, good person has our daughters' and therefore our own backs. Both of our girls' confidence and academic achievement have soared under Victor's tutelage.
She asked for $4/page. I sent her 25 pages. No money has been exchanged and the edit is not finished. She seemed very pleasant on the phone.
Extremely pleased with Lynn😃 she's great with my 11 yr. old son and he is comfortable and happy in her company. She's very intuitive as to his needs. So great to have found her. I highly recommend! 👍🏻💕
Our daughter needed extra help with Algebra1, we found a perfect match in Mr. Deutsch. She was taught what she needed to know by telephone and an online whiteboard. Mr. Deutsch was patient, told her to do an extra equation with him on the phone to be sure she understood, and my daughter told us he made her understand Algebra better then her own teacher. She will go to grade 9 after the summer and we will keep Mr.Deutsch under speed dial. I recommend him as a tutor and like to thank him for the time and help given to our daughter.
I give my students a chance to express what works for them, and what doesn't. I make a decision with them to determine the best method for making connections to ensure that their learning is productive to reach the highest potential possible. Helping others to achieve their goals in education.

Are you struggling with high school math? Do you want to ace the SAT? Are you an engineering major at college, struggling with multivariable calculus? Are you a musician struggling with theory classes, or do you just want to understand your music better so you can have a new understanding of the music you create? Are you looking to compose music? Are you tired of working with "natural" teachers, professors, and tutors who look at you in amazement when you have difficulty understanding what comes to them with no effort, but can't even begin to explain how or why they understand it? I am the person for you! A little bit about myself: I am a current PhD student of music at the University of Southern California. I am a recent graduate of Indiana University (2006) with a BM (Bachelor of Music) in piano performance and a BS (Bachelor of Science) in mathematics. I have been studying classical piano since the age of 3, and began to take music theory classes at 7. I have a full and complete understanding of all aspects of music theory, from basic notation and scales to 20th century atonal music analysis. I have been fascinated by music ever since I can remember. By contrast, as a high school senior, I enrolled in AB calculus. While all other subjects came to me with ease and grace, I struggled with this and wound up doing very poorly in the class. I became enthralled with the subject sheerly because of its difficulty, and made it my personal mission to learn as much about math as I possibly could. Unlike many other tutors you may meet, I truly understand what it means to struggle with math, and this allows me to help you go from confusion to mastery in a way that no "natural" ever could. You will also benefit from my rigorous undergraduate coursework on music education and pedagogy, which I equally apply to both music theory and mathematics. Several years experience in tutoring, both formal and informal. Conveniently located in the USC area, near both the 110 and 10 freeways, or see me in the convenience of your own home! Flexible schedule, weekdays preferred.
