I asked Sprinkler 911 to remove the old sod and sprinkler system. Level yard, add new sprinklers and connect new sprinkles to house plumbing and timer. Alvaro Nava wasn't the cheapest of all the bids I got but I was attracted to his professionalism, timeliness, and communications by phone and text. I found him to be easy to work with open to ideas, but willing to share with me the best way to proceed. He gave me a bid that I thought was too high and we re-worked some expectations and ideas and cut it back to fit within my budget. My first bid was in March but I wasn't ready to proceed until May. Alvaro didn't push things but stayed in contact with me. In the end the new yard looks great, sprinklers work like a champ. It's almost been month and the lawn looks great. Alvaro has called to do follow-up seeing how the lawn is doing. I am completely satisfies with his work and will eventually have him redo my back yard too. If you want to see his work drive by my house at 314 Vine St. Lemoore.

A-1 Plumbing & Piping

I used A-1 for some issues I was having in my bathroom. It is an older house and a plumber with experience is required. They knew how to service and repair older plumbing and how to get at it without destroying walls/tile or just replacing everything, although they could do that as well if needed. Also, when a main water line broke in my yard, the first person I called couldn't fix it because of difficulty in finding parts on a weekend. I called A-1 and he had the resources, know-how, and experience to repair the line so I didn't have to go the whole weekend without running water in my house. A-1 is definitely not reluctant to do what it takes to fix any plumbing problems you may have.

Ian has been my go to handyman a few times now. He has done electrical, plumbing, and build me a variety of wooden things. If I ever need anything fixed or just inspected I know who to call. His prices are fair and his work is detailed. I have added a few pics of work he has done around my home.

My home repair list is too long to list! David Cline was able to complete every project I threw at him. My mother-in-law's 50 year old house needed help. Two bathrooms needed to be remodeled, floors needed to be tiled, David and Steve installed Wainscot, painted walls, repaired floors, repaired windows throughout the house. Several electrical jobs were required. Light fixtures were installed, plumbing was completed. The kitchen needed work on cabinets, appliances installed, and faucets installed. He also cleaned the gutters, and hauled away trash, old furniture, and carpets. As soon as I talked to David on the phone, I knew I had a dependable person to get the job done. He arrived early for the initial appointment, gave me a very reasonable quote for the job , and began working immediately. First of all, David is very patient. Thank you!! He listens to his customers, makes suggestions to steer us in the right direction. He demonstrates professionalism in all areas of his job. During the remodeling, he would check in with me often, to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. and it was! David has other professionals that work with him. Thank you David, Steve, Steven, and Eugene for your outstanding work. As the projects progressed so did my confidence in these fine handymen. They were considerate of the home, prompt, skilled, and friendly. I will definitely use David Cline for future jobs in my home. I will also be recommending him to my friends and anyone who is looking for someone trustworthy and skilled in the home improvement field.

I do general labor. I work in plumbing preparation material that we need for the job, then setup pipe in place before we start. Mostly, I do preparation for everything like in sewer and water. Those that are coming in sewer and going out, then again in preaming, concreting and digging out. I like this kind of job. I learned a lot. I am painting at the same time, knowing little bit and of everything. In stucco-ing, blasting roofing and dry walling. I love to work. If so, I will learn a little bit.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

      • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
      • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
      • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
      • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
      • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

How much does it cost to install a hot water heater?

You’ll know when it’s time to install a new water heater. Water heater installation costs average between $360 and $780 nationally, with rates increasing depending on the project. The total project cost will be higher when you include the cost of the heater itself. Select your new water heater based on the number of occupants in your home and the number of gallons of capacity you’ll need. Installation costs can vary based on the type of water heater you are removing and the type you are installing, any necessary repairs, regional cost of labor, and whether disposal of the old heater is included. Natural gas water heaters retail on average between $650 and $900 for standard models. Electric water heaters range between $300 and $700 for standard models. Tankless electric water heaters retail on average between $250 and $700 for standard models. Tankless gas water heaters retail on average between $200 and $1,300.

A company may charge approximately $1,000 to replace a 50-gallon tank-style electric water heater (not including any upgrades required by building codes). Replacing a gas-powered water heater might cost $1,100 (not including code upgrades). Some companies roll the disposal of an old heater into the overall cost of the new water heater installation. Other professionals charge an additional removal fee that can range from $35 to $150.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

      • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
      • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
      • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
