"I hired Brea to clean the condo I just purchased prior to moving in. Brea was able to accept the job on fairly short notice, she was prompt in arriving at the place when scheduled, arrived with all of the necessary supplies, completed the job in the time she had planned, and did a fantastic job in cleaning the entire place, even including the fridge and the balconies, which were not included in the original proposal. Brea did a wonderful job and I highly recommend her services to anyone looking to hire a cleaning service."

"My irrigation pipes burst and caused water to drain from underneath my driveway next to my lawn. Mateo Pedro (MP) was quick to respond when I posted the job and he met with me the same day at 5pm. He dug up part of the lawn and provided a preliminary assessment on his own time. MP was kind, courteous, and professional. He quoted me a flat price that was very fair considering the work that had to be done without knowing the entirety of the problem. He took the time to evaluate my irrigation system and provided tips on improving lawn maintenance. I contracted with MP and he showed up a 7am the next morning and fixed the problem that day and after completing the repair he did a great job of cleaning up. I would definitely recommend MP if I have any additional handyman work in the future. Great Job Mateo!"

"Very hard workers. Dion went with me to the store to make sure we had all the system components for the shelving. It turned out great. My walls needed to be scrubbed in the kitchen. It looks so much better. Thank you."

"Will definitely use R Housekeeping again. She was well priced. Got the job done quick! She communicated leading up to her arrival and was easy to work with! When we walked through the apartment after she cleaned she pointed out everything she thought the landlord might dock me for. Very thorough!"

"I had a great experience with this cleaning service from beginning to end! When I contacted them to inquire about services, they responded promptly (within a few minutes actually). My schedule is very tight and I was concerned I would not be able to find a time for them to come to my house and give me a quote. They were so flexible with my schedule and very prompt. When they came to see my house they were very nice, polite, and personable. They gave me a fair price and were able to schedule a time to come out and clean my house within the week. On the day they were coming to clean, they kept me updated about when they were on their way, when they were done, etc. And they did an excellent job with cleaning! I am a very hard person to please when it comes to this because I am very neat and somewhat neurotic about cleanliness. And my house had not been cleaned for a very long time because I lost my previous house cleaner when she moved several months ago and have gone through at least three cleaners since then who did not meet my standards. I was very surprised at how clean the house was! When I walked in, it smelled fresh and clean! The floors, kitchen counters and bathrooms, which, like I mentioned had not been cleaned for a long time and had several hard to clean spots, were pristine. And they were very detail oriented. I almost didn't want to touch anything! I contacted them immediately and asked them to come back every 2 weeks! Aside from the cleaning, they were just generally pleasant and helpful. They wanted to make sure that they cleaned to my satisfaction. And even helped me figure out how to reset my circuit breaker (when they arrived there was an electricity outage and Mr. Ordaz volunteered to help my reset it). If you are looking for a service that does an excellent job for a fair price, and has overall good service, hire them!"

"Kelli is very knowledgeable, professional, prompt and energetic. She took much time on the details for my home. Her first time "Deep Cleaning" fee seemed a little pricey at first, but I was not disappointed. My house sparkled from top to bottom when her and AJ were finished. If I needed any extras done I just jotted them down on a Post-It note and they were done. If you have housekeeping needs like I do, giver her a try, you won't be disappointed. They have made my life much easier."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner
