Contacted SPS to look at a slab leaks and was told the $105. inspection fee would be applied to the bill if SPS also did the repairs. I asked twice to make sure this was the case. Twice I was told the $105. fee would be applied to my repair bill. Ryan, a nice enough Scottish guy came out, determined where the leak was and said he’d have a tech come out to estimate the repair costs. Later that day two guys show up to quote the job. Moments after they arrive SPS calls me to schedule an appointment for their tech to come and quote the job. I said, “Your two guys are here now.” The lady (she’s the owner, I forget her name) says she has not booked anyone yet. So I ask the two guys, what company are you with and they say Service First Restoration, Inc. and give me a business card showing their office is in Monarch Bch. Apparently they are not in the business of repairing slab leaks but are there to deal with the water damage. I call SPS back and am told they are two separate businesses, SPS repairs leaks and Service First repairs everything but the plumbing. Service First then quotes me a small fortune (including $750+ to bring in dehumidifiers and fans) and say they wish to begin repairs even before the leak is fixed. Service First gives us this long song and dance about how they are the middleman between us and the insurance company and how our insurance company rejects so many claims like ours. I send them on their way, rent a dehumidifier and fan for $50 and called my insurance company. Turns out we are completely insured for the leak repair and water damage restoration and SPS did reroute the water line and fixed the leak. Our insurance adjuster said they did an acceptable job but didn’t need to cut as many holes in the walls as they did. I don’t have an opinion on that because I know nothing about running water pipes through a structure. They fixed it, quickly and were nice so I’m happy with that. I am unhappy with the fact that they charged my card the entire repair ($2495) and did not credit the inspection fee to the repair bill as promised. Calls to get this corrected were a waste of time. Granted, $105.00 isn’t a lot of money but the principle of the matter bugs me. Do what you say you are gonna do! I also requested copies of my invoice which they are withholding for some reason as well. We need it to get reimbursed by the insurance company. They were quick to debit my Visa; they should be equally quick to submit an invoice. BTW…the SPS guys wear shirts that also have the Service First logo on them. They swear the two companies are not connected but their employee’s shirts have both logos on em? Something fishy going’ on there. I told Ryan at SPS that good, bad or indifferent I was writing a detailed review. Well I did. I contacted SPS because they had perfect reviews but now I suspect that they were written by SPS and not customers. I am a customer and now you have an honest review based on event in Nov. ’12. If I am unable to get them to credit the inspection fee and provide me an invoice I intend to submit a chargeback request to my Visa card issuer and a formal complaint to the BBB.
