We started using Mike's services when we switched elementary schools last September. Our son was just beginning Common Core and we wanted to make sure he could keep up with the rest of the class as he is one of the youngest kids. Mike's lessons on basic math skills--such as place value, equations, counting money and telling time--have been an invaluable part of our son's academic success. Mike also makes math fun and interesting for our son--so much so that he looks forward to Mike's visits. He is friendly and knowledgeable and easy to schedule. We want to note that we had tried another tutor last summer. In the 12 weeks we used her (multiple times each week), our son did not progress much at all. That was the main reason we looked around for another tutor. (That and the fact that our son was starting to hate math.) Instead of multiple weekly sessions, it's one weekly in-depth session. Mike's background, skills and experience as a tutor are clearly evident. We highly recommend him.
I am not one to leave a ton of reviews for services and I have had mixed success with Thumbtack, but I think this man is an unsung hero!!! My daughter has struggled in math for years, since grammar school, and is now in 8th grade. She continued to struggle with a different tutor. We have been working once a week with Mr. Matlak now for about six weeks and the difference is simply amazing. She just got her first "A" in a math quiz since grammar school and we both nearly cried in relief and joy. The two most important things about him - he KNOWS the concepts cold (some tutors DON'T), and he is PATIENT. I came to the conclusion that my daughter simply would not get the pace of learning or individualized attention in the public school setting that she needs for this particular topic. She is doing well in other topics but math is her Achilles heel. I didn't have the patience (or the knowledge) to help much and it became a source of frustration for both of us. It is such a RELIEF to see her more confident and not stressed about math now!! I can't say enough good things about Mr. Matlak. He promptly answered my inquiries, quickly provided two references who gave glowing reviews, and we are so happy to have him. We didn't want to go the Sylvan or other company routes - Mr. Matlak comes to your home, sits down with your student, and gets to work. I can't believe I did not invest in my child's future earlier in her school career - it is well worth it. We do an hour a week and it has made a VAST difference. I have no relation to Mr. Matlak (other than to sing his praises) and I would be happy to provide anyone interested with additional comments. Update April 22, 2015: Our daughter continues to work with Ray weekly and is now pulling a "B" average, coming up from the "D" average she was pulling when we started. Not struggling and spending so much time on math has allowed her to focus on her other classes and encouraged her to bring her other grades up as well as she prepares to enter high school. We couldn't be more pleased to see our daughter's confidence growing with respect to math. We'll keep him through COLLEGE if he's willing!! All kidding aside, Ray is well worth the investment, even if your budget calls for less frequent tutoring sessions.
Joyee of Thinque Prep was able to offer comprehensive services not just in tutoring, but in test preparation and college counseling. He is extremely knowledgeable and able to help improve ACT and SAT scores. But, he also is very helpful on guiding the student into which types of schools would be a good fit for him/her. He and his team were able to work hard to help my son out. My son boosted his SAT scores high enough to qualify for a $19k scholarship at his number 1 college. Thanks so much!
Physics lessons with Tran was very well done. I'm doing much better in my college class now, I'm going to call elite if I need more help. Thanks Tran
Dea was amazing with my boys she took the time to explain how to problem solve and made sure they fully understood before moving forward, my boys both struggled in integrated math and geometry and after tutoring with Dea they practically aced every test. I am great full to her for teaching my kids with patience, that virtu is hard to find
Where do I even begin... It has been a LONG time since I've been in school. I have recently found myself lead to get my bachelors degree so I can eventually go to medical school. I was very scared to even start down that path and thought it might be too hard since it has been so long. I found myself in my Chemistry class on the 2nd day literally about to have an anxiety attack because I had no idea what was going on. The only thing I remember about Chemistry class from high school over 15 years ago has that water is H2O. Luckily I was told about Kofi. He took the time, because of my ignorance, to start from what I would consider a high school level and teach me at my own pace. Not only that, he made Chemistry interesting for me. His teaching style is very unique and exciting. I can tell you without a doubt that he took me from being one of the most ignorant when it came to my class to one of the most knowledgable. I ended up getting an A in the class and will continue to use Kofi throughout my college experience.
Mrs.Khan is awesome! She always has a lot of different books and stuff for each lesson. Because of her great experience and knowledge every lesson is interesting and informative. I'm very greatful to her!
Mazi from Top Tier Tutoring helped me Ace all of my General and Organic Chemistry classes for Medical School an helped me score in the 90th percentile on the MCAT. I truly owe my admission to David Geffen School of medicine at UCLA to Mazi. He really is informed and insightful on every field in science. But most of all he is the most caring and helpful individual when it comes to tutoring. I would have been lost if it were not for Mazi.
In all my years i've had a grudge with painters. I've delt with lazy painters, rude painters, and underqualified painters. David is one of the nicest painters that i have ever worked with! He was on time, did the job right, and was extremely professional despite him just starting out. I decided to give him a chance since he is currently attending school for his bachelors degree and i do not regret doing it!
I have two children that are tutoring with Nancy. My children were behind in school but after tutoring with Nancy they are making leaps and bounds in their academic studies. Nancy is very professional, fun, engaging, and patient. We're happy to have found her. Thank you Nancy!
He helped me with my SAT test. He started by evaluating my english and quantitative levels and detecting the areas to improve. His lessons were well planned. He focused on grammar correction, verbal tenses, sentence construction and vocabulary. In maths, he focused on algebra , functions, geometry and testing techniques. Highly recommended.
Micheal has helped my nephew so much with his school work and now he’s doing much better!
Christine Fung was an angel sent to our son and family! He was struggling in high school Algebra, and truly, after the first tutoring session, my son said that he "clicked" with her and completely understood her style of teaching. The next year she helped him during a very difficult time when he was struggling in both Pre Cal and Physics. Christine went above and beyond in accommodating us to get him through this period, and my son sailed through these classes with a new, complete understanding of the concepts because of her exceptional way of explaining the material and the techniques to work through it. She is 100% dependable, very flexible and her gentle manner is not intimidating to the kids--which is key! We are sad that she moved, but, we will definitely still use her via Skype for any more tutoring needs. We highly recommend Christine, she's an amazing tutor and a wonderful person!
My 5 yr old daughter has improved a lot in her reading and writing since starting Study Pals. They were very accommodating to our schedule and matched us with a great tutor! She makes the lessons easy to understand and engaging!
My son Max takes piano lessons and loves it. Miss. Fernanda is a very kind and knowledgeable teacher. We love going to the recitals, they are well organize and just a fun experience for the kids.
Very user friendly in working with our schedule. First meeting left high school student inspired and ignited enthusiasm for her Spanish class as the school year is winding down.
I am so thankful for the teacher here at Key 2 Success! In the beginning, I struggled in my Chemistry class because I had no idea what was going on. However, after getting a few lessons from the teacher, my test grade significantly improved and I was able to get an A first semester. In second semester, I received higher than 95% on every test. Key 2 Sucess is literally key to success because the teacher explains concepts detailed and clear. If you feel like you don't understand the materials, you should definitely try This! Key 2 Success also teaches math and other science classes! Thank you for helping me!!!
Purvi is a fantastic math tutor, She tutors my 7th grader son. She is extremely knowledgeable, organized, patient and has the ability to break down the lessons so that the information makes complete sense! I highly recommend her.
I have observed Emily tutoring students several times. She helps students understand academic theories and encourages them to find the correct answer on their own. Emily gives the students rewards for completing assignments and good behavior, making the experience more enjoyable for them.
Mary is a wonderful tutor. She has a Master Degree and she is also a US Navy veteran. She is tough but she is good and will help the kid on track with their education. She is currently tutor my daughter who is in high school both Saturday and Sunday for 2 hours each day. Mary is very good with math, English, and Geometry. She help kids from all ranges of ages even up to high school. She helps my daughter preparing for her SAT now so she can get a good score and get a scholarship for her college after she graduated high school. Mary is also very flexible with her tutor schedule and willing to work with parents and student to ensuring a win-win for all. My daughter is very blessed to have her as a private tutor. Also, her pricing is very reasonable. Again, Mary is all about helping the students do well in school. She has a big heart and passion for helping kids. If you need a private tutor who will come to your house and help you tutor your children, Mary is the right choice. Call her and find out what option is right for you.
