Introduction

The JDP Choreography Team has over 10 years of experience choreographing and performing at events such as Quinceañeras, Sweet Sixteens, Debuts, and weddings. JDP Choreography is based in San Diego, CA, but offers both in-person and online classes nationwide. Kyoko, the founder of JDP Choreography, holds a Bachelor's degree in Dance and a minor in Education Studies from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). She also earned a Master's degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University (APU), focusing on promoting a healthy and fit lifestyle for dancers. Kyoko recently served as a dance judge for the San Diego Biggest Quinceañera Expo in 2024. As a dance competitor, Kyoko has participated in prestigious world-level competitions, including the Summit Championship in Latin dance styles such as Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, and Cha Cha Cha in 2022, 2023, and 2024. She also competed in the ULDC in Las Vegas in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, she has been a member of a hip-hop dance company called Kruciaal Elements and has competed in Latin dance with Deseo Studios and Animo Dance Company. Kyoko was involved in the CGTV Actors program in Los Angeles with Adrian R'Mante, known for his role as Esteban in "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," and has participated in show productions with various organizations, including the Ray and Joan Kroc Center, BTAA, SWC Theater Department, EHS Television Production, and Sweetwater VAPA. The JDP Choreography Team has extensive experience choreographing and teaching dances for Quinceañeras, Sweet Sixteens, weddings, Bat Mitzvahs, Debuts, and other special events. We also perform a variety of dance styles, including hip-hop, Latin dance, burlesque, belly dancing, and fire dancing, at different events throughout the San Diego area. If you're interested in booking us and need to use our dance studio space, please note that there is a fee of $30 per hour for the studio rental. There is no additional charge for practicing at home as long as you are within the travel distance.

My daughter's wedding was 5 months away and it is tradition for my immediate family members to perform a dance routine for the celebrants--we have done this 4 times, since 2004, for 3 weddings and a 60th birthday. I was in search of a choreographer to teach 18 people 4 different dance routines! After evaluating a number of dance studios, based on their reviews, experience and fees, I was fortunate to find Kyoko Jennings. A sweet and enthusiastic professional dancer who majored in Dance at UCSD and competes nationwide. She specializes in latin and hip hop, and could probably do everything in between after seeing her Instagram. Kyoko offered several packages and her Diamond package fit us best. Very reasonable compared to the other choreographers and included 30 lessons! The package even included private lessons where she taught at my home for ~4 months then we went to the studio when we got closer to the wedding date. My husband and I wanted to learn a cha cha routine and boy did Kyoko deliver!!!! She was patient, considering my and my husband's beginner to intermediate skills and with her creativity and vision, she took the time and taught us a brilliant routine that exceeded my expectations. I firmly believe we were able to execute because of her skills, encouragement and motivation. A born teacher. I totally loved the cha cha routine, it wasn't boring, nor too basic, enhance the cha cha with our hips and have fun with it! There were 16 additional family members to teach 2 additional routines to, a for a father/daughter dance and a group NSYNC hip hop routine. Kyoko knocked the routines out of the park! Each routine was thoughtfully choreographed step by step, effervescent whole body dance moves! She challenged us and we appreciated it and so did the crowd! My most favorite was my daughter's dance with her dad, it was so classy and lovely, I was so moved and got so teary eyed. She offers the option to dance with other choreographers to assist with technique and an opportunity to work with other choreographers, for example Anthony fine tuned my and my husband's cha cha moves. Kyoko also has a professional mixer who put our 3 different songs together magnificently. Kyoko is open to ideas, flexible and adapts to your level but also challenges you if you are up to it. Kyoko is all about quality and she cares about her work. We loved the every minute with Kyoko and are forever grateful to her. Cheers Kyoko 🍾🫶🏼😊.

My now wife and I, chose Kyoko for a signal dance lesson before our Wedding. Within a couple seconds of her hearing our first dance song she had very simple and elegant dance. Kyoko made every step and transition easy with no confusion.

Kyoko is such a joy to work with! My husband and I worked with her for private dance lessons, and then also had her choreograph our first dance for our wedding. She was incredibly patient with us, listened to our concerns, and created the most beautiful dance for us. We received so many compliments not just from our guests, but also the vendors and staff working the wedding, who had nothing but great things to say and said it was the best first dance they’d ever seen! We were so nervous but had practiced so many times that it just turned out perfectly when it came time to perform. Not only that, but Kyoko and one of her instructors also held a bachata lesson for our wedding guests and everyone had a blast! We are still receiving compliments on how much fun that was and how they’d never seen that at a wedding before. It got everyone up and on the dance floor and smiling and having fun. We hired Kyoko and Anthony for an impossible task, create a 3.30 min first dance for a wedding which was happening 3 weeks time. Kyoko and Anthony jumped to the task, in a few days time they edited the 3 songs we wanted into a bomb mix and choreographed and recorded tutorials for us. They also made time in their busy schedules for 3 in person lessons. In less than 10 practices they turned our first dance into an amazing success our guests couldn't stop talking about. I forgot to add neither one of us has much dancing experience and my future husband had never danced in his life. It was truly an amazing experience. They also are fun and friendly people which made what should have been a stressful situation fun and enjoyable.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing are base on how many studentsi I’ll be teaching and as well as what dances I’m choreographing. So my prices range between $90 to $150 an hour. I also offer discounted package deals as well for both choreography & private lesson!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The process for customers to get in contact with me is they can reach out to me here on thumbtack, and/or call or text me at my number. Once they have contacted me we then schedule a consultation meeting first before scheduling the first practice or if they are just booking me for private lesson we schedule the first lesson in person together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I currently hold Bachelor Degree in Dance and a Minor in Education Studies at UC San Diego. My team has a profession in their style of dance & some have also held a bachelor degree in dance & education studies as well, and current world dance competitors and professional.
