Clifford is a highly-accomplished musician and excellent teacher. I was classically-trained growing up but had always wanted to learn jazz piano. When I started lessons with Clifford, I was definitely rusty in the fundamentals, and he has been doing an excellent job at shoring up my weak points while slowly building up my skills in the jazz techniques. He is very patient and really wants his students to succeed; one example of this is that even though our lessons are supposed to be an hour, we often go over time chatting about all sorts of different aspects of jazz. He plays gigs regularly so the schedule can shift over time, but he is very accommodating and responsive when this might occur.

Hired Sven for lessons for my 14 year old son and we couldn't be happier! Our son was very nervous before his first lesson but afterwards, he's all smiles and confidence! He's begun practicing on his own daily and we can't wait for the next lesson!

My family has started lessons with Juan Carlos, and we're happy we found him. He's a patient teacher who structures lessons based on each student's progression and skill set. He also teaches the "right" way, i.e. fundamentals, thereby setting up students for success. It also helps that he's a nice guy and is extremely responsive with scheduling etc.

My girlfriend and I just got back from our first lesson and we felt that it was extremely helpful. The things that Max taught us seemed incredibly useful under the right circumstances and we felt that we came away with something valuable. We set up another month worth of lessons with Max and we're extremely excited to learn more about defending ourselves. Additionally, Max was very quick to respond to my original inquiry and a pleasure to work with on the business side of things.

David Williams has given guitar lessons to our son for many years. We have the highest regard for his teaching and his overall positive influence. David is a highly talented musician and a gifted teacher. Our son has great respect for David's musical knowledge and his thoughtful mentoring--and we do as well. David provides very sound guidance and also works to help students achieve their own specific musical goals. David is a great person and a very fine teacher, and we're pleased to give him our highest recommendation.

Wow, Ann has been great! I've never taken any voice lessons before, and in fact, I'm a terrible singer! The reason why I wanted to take lessons was because I've always wanted to be able to sing at least one song decently. So, I was nervous going to my first lesson with a professional voice coach. She was very friendly, and put me at ease immediately. She casually taught me about the basics, and asked me a lot of questions to get to know me. Once she realized I had no prior experience, she got right to work! She made the lessons fun, but also full of new things to learn. I've only had a couple of lessons so far, but I'm already noticing a big difference!!! And I'm an absolute beginner! Sometimes she sings for me to show me techniques, and she blows me away with her singing! I can imagine that even professional singers would get a lot out of taking lessons from her! She notices even the tiniest of details about your voice and makes note and suggests ways to improve! I definitely recommend!

I thought I needed a crash course in Spanish, then our relocation plans changed, but for the lessons I met with Nando, I found him very good and very adaptable to my own particular needs. He obviously truly loves languages and loves teaching, which adds to making a good experience. I would recommend him to anyone wanting a boost in language learning.

I've had two lessons with Ken so far, after returning from a 10 year hiatus from playing piano. He has been able to simplify aspects of piano playing that were previously unlearnable for me in just two hours! Ken is a passionate teacher, who makes learning fun. I'd happily recommend him to anyone wanting to learn piano and have fun doing it.

Miles is a wonderful, supportive teacher. I am an adult in my senior years who decided to learn piano. Although I took piano lessons when I was 8-10 years old, it is a challenge for me to learn now with an adult brain but he is so patient and he adapts his lessons to how I learn. He always encourgaes me and I am learning very well which I wasn't sure I was capable of but now with Miles' excellent teaching and enthousiasm, I confident that I will soon be able to play the way I imagined I could.

My daughter recently started doing piano lessons with Lynn and she just loves it. She loves Lynn and thinks she is so nice. I sat in on her first session and I learned so much just from watching in the background. Lynn is an outstanding piano teacher and I recommend her for anyone interested in piano or voice lessons.

Chris is a really good musician and teacher. Some musicians are so good they forget what it's like to 'not know'. Chris can be with you, where you're at even though he is a highly skilled player. His patience is very encouraging. It's inspiring to take lessons with him and to remember we all NEED music!

I have had guitar lessons with John Lewis for two months now and I have to say without a doubt, he has exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only is he a very talented musician, he also possesses a rare talent for communicating and teaching guitar and musical concepts that are sometimes hard to grasp. He is patient, kind, encouraging, inspirational, and very creative in his teaching style. He knows how to judge exactly how much information I can handle at one time and I never leave feeling overwhelmed. He always makes the lessons interesting, challenging, and FUN! I am so grateful to have found this wonderful teacher and I highly recommend him to anyone from beginner to advanced. He truly is the Best of the Best!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
