My time with Maverick Consulting was everything I could have hoped for and more. My name is Joshua Wolk and as someone who has severe dyslexia, resumes and cover letter writing is extremely difficult for me. My federal resume create by Maverick Consulting was well written and insightful. Additionally, I presented my resume to a member of the Rocky Mountain National Park human resources team for input and it was well received. As so someone who works in natural resources management (a scientific and jargon filled profession) I was worried this would be a problem. This was not the case and my time spent with Lisa-Beth ended in a out standing resume and cover letter! I would and will recommend this service to anyone interested in a tailored federal resume and cover letter!

Carl was hired to teach Hebrew to my daughter who is in Kindergarten as well as to teach my husband and I Hebrew. Carl is a very dedicated professional that has a true gift at teaching. He makes the lessons fun and teaches in a way that keeps the learner engaged the entire lesson and always excited about learning more. This would not normally be an easy task while teaching a 5 year old, however Carl makes it look easy. Our daughter looks forward to Carls's weekly visits, as do we. Carl even went out of his way to find a special Hebrew educational book for my husband (who already speaks pretty decent Hebrew- but wanted to learn more). I would highly recommend Carl for any tutoring, writing, or editing services you may need.

I learned more than writing. Also, I enjoy spending time with Lois because I learn so many things that I never came across before. She makes things understandable and easy to digest. I can see the things we talk about in everyday life and value the things I learn. I get to apply what I learn with Lois since it is very simple to use.

I have been pondering in my ❤ for over twenty years to take a chance with my writing of songs and pomes. When I finally decide to take a chance on my maniusripts, I found the right person for me. I finally decide to take a chance and spend some money. Not so much for speeding the money, it was my pride. If you want something done, then do it. Thankyou Melanie, we need you. I hired Karryn to declutter and reorganize a very cluttered home study and 2 large closets - one in the study and one in my bedroom. She worked two days with me on this in addition to her thoughtful consultation that she offered free of charge on the front end of the project. What I have to say is that Karryn is superb - she has tremendous vision about how to both sequence and transform a room. Not only does she have a lot of energy and physical strength to do that - and she is incredibly efficient. She has a clear picture of the steps needed to accomplish the daunting task ahead. She also brought in a handyman to do some work and haulers to take away excess furniture so these tasks were coordinated by her as well and the folks she found were excellent. So I loved working with Karryn - to show you before and after pictures of my study you wouldn't believe it is the same room. We removed half the bookshelves and file cabinets that filled the place and converted half of it into a working yoga studio. The entire room opened up with light and space from these changes. The closets are literally so beautiful I find myself leaving the doors open so that I can enjoy the order and symmetry of the space. Before Karryn's help the closets were so packed I could barely open and close them - literally I would have to push in clothes and shoes to open and close the doors! Now they are transformed! Karryn is also incredibly thoughtful - she would email me possible organizing tools between times we worked - really helpful - like shoe holders (who knew?) and shelf lifters and different types of hangers and cord organizers that save space and organize it better. So what I found was that with these "space savers," while I had to downsize a lot - I was able to find a space for more clothes and accessories than I initially imagined. I also found that working with Karryn, she is very dedicated to the tasks in front of her. Even while eating lunch - supposedly her time off - we would be discussing options. The other thing I want to say is that downsizing is an emotional process. You have to let go of things that have a lot of sentimental value. But Karryn handled this prospect with delicacy and compassion - she never pushed me - she would just pose questions that prompted me to think about various items' utility and worth. This non coercive but effective approach gave me space to make the decisions I had to make. And she did this with kindness and light humor to make the process less arduous. So in short, I cannot recommend Karryn enough - I am also going to have her transform my office at work which is equally chaotic and cluttered and I have full confidence that she will give me the outstanding quality of service that she provided thus far. She is both amazing and gifted as an organizer and coach and I would highly recommend her services to anyone wanting to transform and organize their space. She's a tiger and as anyone knows trying to reorganize clutter and chaos - you need a strong advocate who "has your back" and who honors your dream for the space. For me, that person is Karryn.

Skip Press displayed outstanding literary writing skills when he edited my romance novel. He turned it into an entertaining, compelling, fluent, and beautiful story that will be memorable to all its readers. Besides, Skip is personable, reliable, and gets the work finished on time without any hassle. As a result of my good experience working with Skip, I highly recommend him to other authors. Annie S. I appreciated Brad's input for my resume. I was also proactive on my part by providing him a results page for my job experience, which was helpful for him. Brad asked some great questions about what type of job that I wanted to pursue and then tailored my resume to that field.

Celia is the best proof-reader and copy editor you will ever encounter. Her proof-reading skills are legendary. Even the tiniest of typos and punctuation errors will not escape her notice. She knows all the rules of grammar, knows verb tenses, and knows active voice, the key to dynamic writing. There is none better. And she is a pleasure to work with.

JD is a pleasure AND a statistical wiz! I consulted him on an appropriate method for comparing two behavioral models to be presented in an academic work. He took the time to read up on my research, clarify my approach, and discuss the implications of the statistical analysis. I was very impressed with his thoroughness and ability to clearly explain his recommendations. I learned a great deal from our tome together and plan to engage his services at the end of my study to ensure the process we designed was implemented successfully. I highly recommend JD for your research needs.

Michael is an absolute wizard at providing essay help. He makes the process effortless, and surprisingly really fun and motivating. He has a unique skill to understand his students quickly and convert their experiences to meaningful stories that showcase their personality and positive characteristics. Michael's true gift is his ability to create inciting stories. I can not describe how highly I would recommend Michael for essay help. Furthermore, he was extremely professional and respectful of my time. Michael helped me write an essay for business school. He helped me with every single step of the way. We first started with idea generation where we discussed things I could potentially write about. He then helped me pin point a story to tell, and worked to show me how concrete examples highlighted the major themes that I wanted to conveys to the reader. He then helped me build a very detailed outline that was perhaps the most valuable portion of our work together. I turned an initial draft along with pages on pages of ideas. Michael helped me re-write my ideas in exactly the way I wanted to get them across to the reader. Michael then continued to edit and condense my work while not sacrificing anything from my message. Michael found a way to help me turn my initial drafts, (that was in no shape to submit) into an a really great essay that I am very proud of. In the end I could not be more happy with Michael's work. Whether it is idea generation, building an outline, editing your writing, or making an essay read and simply sound better, this is the guy to go to.

When working with a professional writer a business has to consider the writer's qualifications. Christopher from Ghost Strategies has a science background(Aeronautical Engineering), is an attorney and has written professionally for over 20 years. Because of this background he is very detailed oriented and is used to meeting deadlines. His science background means that he considers the substantive topic as well as good editing and writing practices in performing any project. He was an asset to my law firm and to my clients over a number of years.

I was frantically searching online for some help in writing a Roast for my husband’s surprise 40th birthday and I found Adam. I'm so glad I did! He got back to me quickly and had a draft to me in a few short days. He was nice and very laid back. I could not believe how he managed to capture my husband personality with just a few short questions. He painted an exact picture of him. I wanted something funny and really wanted to give my husband a hard time. This roast was perfect! I was nervous about getting up in front of a crowd, but having this made it SO much easier. And on top of that it was HILARIOUS! I received so many compliments and the room was full of laughs throughout the entire roast. He even managed to get a few “digs” in there on some friends and family members. I can’t thank Adam enough! You did an amazing job! I’ll be calling you again for my sister’s wedding.

Rand was exceptionally helpful with my son's college application procedure and ultimate school selection. His expertise and guidance made my son's college search experience much less daunting than it could have been. Rand's approach is all encompassing. He is well versed in the entire process, utilizing lots of college app resources, his terrific writing skills and his funny, warm personality. During his junior year, my son (Scott) and Rand worked closely together to develop an entire strategy which included test prep, application paperwork, and a compelling personal story that would be relevant to each of his college choices. Rand's style also helped to increase Scott's confidence, allowing him to understand that he would be fine at any of the schools he chose. This helped make my life easier as well - that first senior semester is extra stressful for everyone (Scott ultimately was accepted at his first choice, but he really believed any of his choices would have been great too). I would highly recommend Rand, and believe his help could benefit other college bound juniors and seniors.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
