Having recently been brought in on a residential project as one of Debbie's Creative Spaces Interior Design team members, we were very impressed with her warm and affable nature as well as her professionalism and creativity. The job ran like clock work thanks to her fabulous organizational skills. Working with Ms. Adelman of Creative Spaces Interior Design, Inc. was such a refreshing and positive experience that we hope to become a permanent part of her team of Craftsman and Artisans.

This is our first time hiring on Thumbtack and the experience has been wonderful! Josh is very patient and willing to work with us on every detail. He definitely has an eye for design and his price is very affordable. The house sold within two months and we couldn't be happier. We already have another referral to send his way. Thank you for all your good work!

I had called 4 vendors and Chris Gilmore of Custom Design was the first to respond and came out the very next day even though it happened to be a Sunday. Upon meeting her, I immediately felt she was trustworthy, genuine and down to earth with her prices and proposals. Subsequently I had changed my mind a number of times about the pattern of carpeting and throughout, she remained patient and gracious. Despite some glitches, she took care of business in a professional way, always returning my phone calls and emails almost immediately. I expressed concern about possible problems with the installation crew. She assured me I will be happy with the crew she was sending. True to her word, the crew worked together, was cordial and completed the job to my great satisfaction. All in all, the whole project turned out to be beautiful. You should see the worksmanship of the seams in the carpeting. I have never seen a job of such perfection! So, for a stress free project, I would call Chris Gilmore who owns Custom Design and obviously cares about her clients' satisfaction. Her office is in West Hills and she can be reached at (818) 400-6662. You will be so happy.

I needed to furnish and decorate a 500 square foot studio condo from scratch in 30 days. Janet surpassed my expectations and I couldn't be happier with the end result. This was my first time using Thumbtack and an interior designer. I work and travel a lot, so I needed someone who would take care of everything - sending options, ordering items, as well as delivery, assembly and installation. Even though it was a small space, this was not an easy project. Janet fully understood my style preferences, budget and logistics. She meticulously reworked the floor plan when I changed my mind or when an item was unavailable. She was constantly contacting vendors to answer my 100s of questions and continually updated me on where we were in the budget. To top it off, she fully managed the complicated delivery/installation logistics with an outside company that she found (and was there when everything was delivered/assembled)! Janet completely transformed an empty space into a beautiful bedroom, living room, work area and patio that I adore. I fully recommend Janet's interior design services and am thankful for her excellent work.

Stacy Kroot is a visual alchemist. She has a way of looking at a problem and finding a solution which is elegant, efficient and novel. She was instrumental in solving some challenging problems for my interior design project. In addition, Stacy is very detail oriented, considering things I never would’ve thought of. She is careful to think through all aspects of design and also to consider the costs. She is easy to work with and easy to get along with. Working with Stacy was truly a pleasure!

So happy with my new home! I hired Ranj to help me with the interior design of my home that I recently purchased. Not knowing where to start from and what to pick out. I gave her my wish list and true enough she was very detailed, specific and she delivered results that went beyond my expectations. I am very happy with the results and I’m glad I decided to work with Ranj!

Chloe was absolutely fantastic to work with! She was the first interior designer I've ever worked with and she made the experience so much fun. She has such a keen creative eye and knows all of the "under the radar" shops and markets to pick up eclectic and interesting pieces that are truly special. My husband and I moved into our house about a year ago and I had mixed some of my existing furniture with some new pieces I found on my own. Everything felt really disjointed and awkward. I hired Chloe to help me tie everything together and make it feel like home. She helped me find the most beautiful vintage art that spoke to me (and was VERY reasonably priced) and helped me layer my existing furniture with some new interesting pieces to give our home an overall more lived-in, warm and eclectic vibe. She never pressured me to buy anything out of my price range. She was even able to get shop owners to allow me to bring furniture and artwork home before buying to let it "live in the space" to make absolutely sure that it was something that my husband and I both loved. Can't say enough good things... if you're looking to create a beautiful space to call your own while having so much fun doing it, hire Chloe!

My experience with KLP Interior Designs was just beyond amazing! I absolutely love what she was able to do with the drapery for my 20ft windows! All of the furnishings were designed and custom made to my exact specifications. My home in Las Vegas is 5000 sq ft and I'm very particular about the way my home is furnished. She was very professional and did everything in a timely manner. I will say that KLP Interior Designs did a magnificent job and I would definitely suggest that anyone looking for something unique and yet eloquent, give KLP Interior Designs a call. You'll be happy that you did!

Andreas has an incredible eye and professional. The interior design work he did on our home was exceptional - his designer's point of view is clean, modern and fresh. His global experience with various design projects brought many ideas to the table but stayed within our budget. I gladly recommend Andreas to anyone who wishes to consider hiring him as a designer.

Stephen’s staging services help my home seller’s sell faster and at a higher price! Seriously. I’ve been using Stephen’s services for the last 4 years, ever since I met him at a boutique shop in the Fairfax district. Since then he has assisted my clients both sellers and buyers with interior design and selecting the right furniture to optimize their living space. Here are some samples of his work on my properties he has staged: http://www.3651roderick.com and http://1133toledo.com/ . Stop shopping around reading other reviews with weak interior designers / stagers and call Stephen at Tabula Rasa now!

Claire is the most masterful Home Stager in the business! Her sophisticated yet accessible style makes every room look like something out of a magazine, yet it can be as affordable as an IKEA showroom. Anyone lucky enough to work with Claire will be blown away by the final product; the only downside will be the question you ask yourself..."Why I am I selling this house?” Ari F.

About

We take architecture as a psychological issue - the piece of land, an edifice or a structure as being utilized the same way it should create certain emotions to the viewer, mentally connecting it with the state of sculptural expression. Our design work is based on extensive brainstorming, where depending on the type of client, category building, materials chosen, landscaping, and urban attitude a particular process methodology is implemented. Each project is approached with its own specificity, uniqueness, and the process of designing is the one which brings to it its own architectural handwriting. In the Studio 3D, different computer software allow exploring in very depth each detail and not a little corner is left without being carefully studied. We thoroughly believe also in the sustainable design philosophy that this is the future where architecture goes, and we stay firmly behind it. The sustainable architectural design has to go hand by hand with renewable energy, and give a better future for the next generation. The project budgeting and value analysis are looked under scrutiny to be able to lower the cost as much as possible, without compromising the quality of the design in both highly-competitive private and cost conscious government sectors. Working tightly with cost estimators and surveyors, the office takes it with main responsibility that the project is executed precisely, within the budget, and in the time frame.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

  • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
  • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
    • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
  • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
    • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
  • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
  • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.
