I started learning how to play golf in my freshman year of high school, and knew nothing or had any interest of the sport. But with Dave's passion in the game and in helping me, I started to become more interested in the game, which led me to be on the Varsity Golf Team for my sophomore year. I eventually became the Varsity Captain for the golf team starting my senior year in high school. Dave is not only a golf instructor but also a mentor in helping me and my personal struggles and growth as a teenager back in high school. Four years later, I'm graduating college this year and still keep in contact with Dave by going out on the golf course or just catching up! Dave is a great teacher and friend, and I'm confident that he can be your's too!

Great learning experience with Ric. Never understood the proper mechanics of a good golf swing until now. Just from my first lesson I have already gotten rid of my terrible slice.

I took Jay's 5 lesson package and was impressed on how clear and simple Jay communicates the mechanics of the golf swing and how to correct your swing when it goes awry. Jay was very methodical in his instruction which made me understand that if I followed the instructions I would get the desired result.

David's understanding of the golf swing is exceptional and based on fundamentals. His passion for coaching and desire to gain more knowledge about the golf swing has, in my opinion helped him become one of the futures great golf coaches. He has helped me lower my scores from in the 90's to in the 70's and hopefully lower. He is a fantastic teacher for both men and women of all ages and skill levels and can help you shoot your lowest score, no doubt. Whether you're a high handicapper who wants to hit more fairways and greens or a low handicapper looking to win competitions. Matt

I have know and worked with David very close to a year now. David has brought me down from a 20 to a now 10 handicap. When I began working with David, at first I did not want to change the way that I had built my golf swing. I had a very slow tempo and then a very fast down swing. David did not force me to change my tempo. He was willing to over look my tempo and work on mechanics until I told him I was ready for a more dramatic change. As I saw gradual improvements in my swing, I was then willing to make the change in my golf temp to a more fluid swing. I owe many thanks to David for the improvements in my swing and I look forward to continuing to work with him to further lower my handicap.

I just had my one year golf anniversary and decided I need to seek some professional help. I took a 2 hour plus lesson not rushed and we had lunch together and talked. We reviewed putting, chipping, pitching for the first half. He would point out areas where I could improve and or make a change to help me find consistency in each category. Then we moved to the driving range and did wedges, irons, woods and driver. A review of stance, routine, posture, aim and how to hit a more consistent shot not heavy or thin. At the end he wanted to give me a little something to help me understand where I can go by showing me how to hit a fade and draw. Now I have a long way to go but I am here to tell you about Robert. He listens and helped me with what I asked for. I got more than a good value for my dollars. He was punctual, friendly, light sense of humor yet understood we were on the clock so we kept it moving. If I had it to do over again I would have done it earlier. Will I use him in the future? Yes Most likely I will work on what I have learned and then do a 30 minute review and 30 minute problem solving on my next lesson in about a month. I gave him 5 stars because he earned it. Not because I plan to see him again or because I am a nice guy.

My son started out as a little guy with Joe about 10 years ago. I have observed each weekly session. Not only does Joe have in-depth knowledge of the golf swing, course strategy, just all thigs related to golf, he has an innate ability to relate to and tailor his instruction to the individual. He instructed and provided drills for my son on those aspects of the game he could grasp as a youth and elevated the instruction as he grew older. With Joe’s tutelage and their hard work my son has become an accomplished high school golfer with an eye towards college golf. Joe is a true golf professional that can help you improve the game you have or if you want he can help you strive towards competitive golf. Joe can help you with club selection. Joe’s fees are reasonable considering the professional services he renders and his credibility as a local college coach. Punctuality and time are always adhered to by Joe. Not only is Joe a great golf instructor, he is a nice guy.

Eddie was very knowledgeable and professional really trying to help me on my game. I am now on my 5th month continuing my lessons and I have improved rapidly with understanding. He is very patient and not only teaches you the game of golf, he also educated me in all areas in the game physically and mentally. After going through many instructors I highly recommend at least seeing him once. I have introduced him to 3 of my close friends and they feel the same. I believe his first visit is free. Take advantage of it. Thank you Eddie.

I met Bob Cisco at a Golf Show about eight years ago. He was advocating his "Short Game Boot Camp" one day lesson program. I tried it and learned a lot about pitching, chipping and putting from off the green with an iron. At the time, I was taking regular lessons frpm a golf pro at Industry Hills Golf Course. My progress was slow at best. I then took some lessons from Golf Tech where I learned to visualize my swing, but did not see a substantial reduction in my score. Then a few years back, I contacted Bob Cisco to discuss a series of lessons both at the range and on the course. Since then, my golf pals have noticed a marked improvement in the smoothness of my swing and my ability to make much better ball contact. As a matter of fact, the best golf compliment that I ever received was from one of the golf pros at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club during a Demo Days. He remarked how smooth my swing was and asked who my pro was. I told him it was Bob Cisco who taught me this swing. Keep in mind, I am no youngster. I am 69 years old and have only been playing for 12 years. Bob transmits his golfing knowledge and swing thoughts in a very easy to understand manner. His catcher's mitt technique for bringing the club back in the backswing has been one of the major breakthroughs in my game improvement. He has a way of taking complex swing thoughts and simplifying them for easy execution. My scores hace been dropping and just recently scored a personal best of 85. Thank you Bob Cisco! S. Max is an incredible teacher. He takes pride in what he does. He understands the mechanics of the golf swing. Max doesn’t use a bunch of mystical terms and gobbledygook like some golf instructors. He understands how the body works and the biomechanics behind the ideal swing and knows how to share that ideal with his clients. I like Max’s demeanor and relaxed approach. There are no smoke and mirrors — the swing Max teaches, if practiced, is repeatable and reliable under pressure. As a golfer, that is probably the most important thing: being able to develop a repeatable, reliable swing that holds up in pressure situations. I would recommend Max to anyone (except the guys in my regular foursome, because I don’t want them improving like I know they inevitably would if they started taking lessons from Max). Haha. Max is worth every penny.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What makes a good golf instructor?

A good golf instructor is someone who has the playing skill you’d like to achieve, is qualified to teach golf, and is someone you can get along with. Some experts recommend you only take golf lessons from coaches with active accreditation from reputable associations such as the PGA, LPGA, or similar organizations that focus on continuing education. You’ll be spending hours out on the green with the pro during lessons, so a good rapport, strong communication and the right personality fit are key. A proven track record is also important. Read reviews from their current and former students to make sure they have helped people achieve their golfing goals, and always ask about the instructor’s experience before signing on for lessons. Years of providing lessons can contribute to a deeper understanding of how to teach the sport. Just because your friend or partner is great at golf doesn’t mean they’ll give good golf lessons. Invest in a professional golf instructor who knows how to teach the sport from short game to full swing.

    How much are golf lessons?

Golf lessons are a great way to break into the sport or take your golf game to a new level. The national average cost for golf lessons is $50-$60, but prices will vary based on what type of lessons you want. The most expensive golf lessons will be private instruction with top-tier coaches. These are golf instructors who have held high professional ranking and have a good reputation. Regardless of who is teaching, private instruction is always more costly than couples’ lessons or small group lessons (usually up to four people). Teachers often offer a lower price per lesson when you buy a package of several lessons at one time. Here are some examples of average golf lesson costs:

    • Individual lessons:
      • Standard pricing for 60-minute private lesson: $60.
      • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $100.
    • Couples’ lessons:
      • Standard pricing for 90-minute duo lesson: $100.
      • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $125.
    • Golf lesson package pricing:
      • Purchase six individual lessons at one time and save $10.
      • Purchase 10 individual lessons at one time and save $40.
      • Purchase six couples’ lessons at one time and save $40.
      • Purchase 10 couples’ lessons at one time and save $200.

What age should you start golf lessons?

Golf lessons for kids can start as early as age four or five. They’re too young for formal training, but you can keep them interested and engaged and give them a feel for the game. U.S. Kids Golf recommends starting formal training for junior golfers at six years old. It’s important for young golfers to swing clubs that are the right length and weight for their body; U.S. Kids Golf provides a fitting guide.

Golf lessons for kids, especially young kids, should be about encouraging success rather than correcting mistakes, according to U.S. Kids Golf. If you want your child to love golf for life, you want their early experiences to be positive. Golf lessons for kids are less expensive than golf lessons for adults. A monthly rate (including four lessons) for group golf lessons for kids may average $100. Semi-private golf lessons for kids may range from $150 to $200 per month. Location and instructor reputation can also affect cost. Often, discounts are provided when multiple months are purchased at one time.
