I have worked with Lois for the past three month, and she is just AMAZING. I have learned so much from her about public speaking, interview techniques and accent reduction. I am now much more confident about my English and presentation stills. She did an absolutely fantastic job on editing my resume and personal statements. Unlike online editing services (which just correct grammar and punctuation mistakes and typos), she spent time to know my vision and what I really wanted to express. The end results were impressive pieces that were personal and really made me stand out. Lois is intelligent, delightful and inspirational, and I truly enjoy her teaching. I especially love her homemade iced tea in this hot summer. I strongly recommend Lois for her lessons and will definitely continue working with her!

We highly recommend Lois For tutoring. She is well known in Honolulu and has years of experience. She tutored our granddaughter when she needed to take the entrance exams into private schools. Lois has great knowledge of children and skill in getting them to do their work. Her lessons were challenging and fun. Our grandaughter could hardly wait to return to her next session. We wish Lois was here to tutor our grandaughter in her college SATS. Carol Lehman

I requested singing lessons and received 6 quotes rangers big from $36/hr to $100/hr. I eliminated 3 of them just based on the message they wrote to me and their reviews or lack there of. My passion is indie rock and Jan does not fit the profile of a rocker and she was vocally trained as an opera singer. However, her reviews were positive, she was priced in the middle, her message to me was pertinent and once I called and spoke to her I was sold. I didn't bother contacting the other two quotes I was interested in. Needless to say, my hunch was right and I had my first lesson last week. It went incredibly well. She amazed me. I am a song writer wanting to improve my vocals so I can work indecent from hiring a singer. I showed he some of my recorded originals and within seconds she knew what I had to improve to make my voice fit the song better. We changed the key a whole step, she had me pronounce some of the words differently and she gave input in to what could improve for the song instrumentally. She started showing me current artists and what I could take from their particular songs to inspire some rhythmic changes. she had suggestions on where to go and present my music to sale for commercial/tv/advertising. She had big picture advice on where to focus my energies. I couldn't believe what we packed in to a one hour rehearsal. She sat at her piano and taught me vocal exercises and explained to me how I could improve on them with what I call tricks to break certain bad habits I have formed. I can't wait to see her next week. She can totally rock!!!

I've been working with Jan for over a year and a half and she has helped me immensely in progressing in my music career. She is truly a professional songwriter, voice coach, and producer. She also teaches classes in Acting for Singers which I have taken. She creates a fun and supportive atmosphere in her private lessons as well as her classes which makes attending them truly enjoyable. She always focuses in on what I need to learn and does it in a very positive way. Anyone who wants to develop as a singer would be really lucky to have the opportunity to study under her and to have her guidance.

3 lessons already and singing has been much more fun! She is positive, honest, personal, knowledgeable, and a great resource! She's taught me to sing more naturally and how to perform and I'm glad I have the opportunity to learn from her! She certainly has a knack for developing this beautiful art in her clients! Thanks Jan!

Bill Chott is a master. I've seen the good, bad & greedy coaches/teachers etc in this town ... Bill Chott fights for truth justice & good ol'fashioned belly laughs by passing on the best of acting/improve theory & practice to his students in a familiar & efficient format. I've been practicing and studying the performance arts here in my home town of Hollywood for more than 20 years and can say without hesitation that you get your money's worth & then some at The Improv Trick. It's upped my tired game x10.

Johnny C.

Bill is a very nice guy and a really good teacher who knows how to improvise. Second city taught him well. He doesn't yell at the students like some of my previous acting teachers. I've only had 3 improv teachers and Bill is the best teacher i've had.

After looking at other quotes, I realized that Kenshaka was far more experienced then most on Thumbtack. I also noticed that he is a seasoned teacher and not an struggling artist trying to survive. After speaking with him, his love for the art and for the craft of teaching acting made choosing him a no-brainer. I learned more in a mini lesson than I have sitting through semesters of acting classes in college. I'll leave it to say that perhaps Kenshaka is that rare being one comes across in life, a true master.

John G.

Verified review

I had my first session with Kenshaka last night and quickly realized that I had made the right choice. We talked a bit, did some excercises and a monologue. His feedback was uniquely different than what I experienced in group acting classes. He seemed to bring a lot of his experiences to the table on a customized way tailored to my situation. I would recommend considering Kenshaka as your acting coach.

Ashlyn E.

Kenshaka gave me acting lessons via video chat which is already a difficult task, but he was a great guide and mentor regardless of those obstacles. He is also very flexible and willing to be available for help outside of the scheduled lesson times. Excellent teacher and I would recommend him to others!

During the time of operation of Let The Kids Grow Los Angeles, California 2013-2014. I had the privilege of working with and managing Mrs. Tracy Pfau, she was our head Acting instructor. She had the tasks and duties of working with underprivileged children of the community to help them stay off the streets and into the classrooms. She was able to work with children that possessed some knowledge of acting to complete beginners. She was professional and always uplifting to the children and respected them in a professional and caring manner as if they were her own. She not only taught them the basics fundamentals of acting but she showed them the professionalism and seriousness of the business surrounding a acting career. The ages of the children ranged from 4-17. As this was a after school program she would always be ready with a lesson plan and would not mind helping after hours if needed. I have learned that to be a great instructor you need to first have a great heart and a seriousness to the profession, and Mrs. Pfau is the total package as she is a great instructor and a great mentor and even after the program finished she was still willing to work with the children on a personal basis to really help these children accomplish their goals in the acting profession. I would be more than happy to recommend Mrs. Pfau in any future projects as I do not recommend people unless I really believe in them.

We are so blessed to have found Jeanette. My son started taking lessons from her when he was six and is now 12. She has worked wonders with him, as singing was not his first passion and it did not come easy. In the beginning he was just an actor that would have skipped the musical part if he had a choice. However, bringing him back to Jeanette, over the years, has turned him into a blossoming singer! She has an amazing ability to help one "get it" extremely quickly, patience, knowledge and an amazing musical ability and ear.

Joanne is a very intuitive coach. As a beginner adult, I was nervous and unsure of my abilities. Joanne took the time to assess my skill level and created a curriculum and acting exercises tailored to fit me! I've learned it's okay to be nervous, it's okay to let go and have fun. I am actually having fun taking Skype lessons and I am learning how to be authentic and real. Joanne keeps in touch between lessons to send me articles to read that will help me as well as answering questions. I couldn't be happier with my choice to hire Joanne. I'm very grateful.

Working with Joanne has been phenomenal. I cannot imagine having anybody else coach me in the performing arts! She is very wise, charismatic, and beyond talented and experienced. She is so passionate about helping her students learn and even I can see my own improvement since having multiple acting classes with her. If you are looking for a dedicated and brilliant instructor for the performing arts, you have found her!

I love my lessons with Joanne! She is an excellent coach and provides an environment that is both warm and comfortable, that breaks the ice/awkward nervousness that first-timers like myself face. The feedback that she provides, helps you to not be afraid to make mistakes, because even in that, Joanne knows how to look at things from a different perspective and help you do the same. She's a true gem 💎!

Both Van and Sean provide a phenomenal education for people who want to learn singing. They guided my kids over the years to learn how to sing, perform and ultimately use their own natural voice in a healthy and efficient way. They provide performing opportunities and have great connections with people in the industry and in New York City. My kids enjoy each lesson and always ask when they can go back for their next lesson.

My first lesson blew me away with how much I learned in an hour. That is why I am still with VS Music Studios and trusting them with my career. The best vocal instruction I have ever had and I use to pay over $300/hour for different instructor in NYC. I feel confident and comfortable in my voice and I'm not straining for those high notes anymore.

Bonnie has truly transformed my voice. She coached me through insane vocal tension and in no time sent me off to become a singer. I highly recommend her to any singer. Beginner or professional.

I worked with Mr. Pestle during my senior year of high school in the school play. Despite never meeting him before, nor having any previous experience in a play or drama before, he showed a level of kindness and encouragement towards me that it is extremely rare in teachers of any form. His level of enthusiasm and obvious passion for what he does makes him a complete joy to be around, and also makes the experience for all involved much more inspiring. He works hard every session to get the most amount of work complete at the highest level of quality, while also maintaining a steady head and never losing his temper. One can always look forward to a class or session with him offering something new and intriguing to learn, and at the same time keep the atmosphere fun, yet with a high standard of professionalism. There is never a time working with him where anyone felt excluded, and he was always open to new ideas or even constructive criticism from subordinates. Given the opportunity, I would work with him again in a heartbeat. His kind and compassionate demeanor is contagious to be around, and his display of a high amount of knowledge and level of professionalism for his craft and trade gives comfort to all involved knowing they are in good hands. I would highly recommend working with Mr. Daniel Pestle to anyone. A great teacher, and a great friend!

I have known Mr. Pestle for several years. He is extremely passionate about teaching, theater, acting, and writing—this shows in every aspect of his work, especially his theater productions and English classes. His encouragement, enthusiasm, and humor make him an excellent mentor. I have enjoyed learning from Mr. Pestle through discussion of literature and art! He is honest, and very easy to talk to. Mr. Pestle is awesome. I would absolutely recommend him.

Mr. Pestle has directed and led multiple events and shows in which I have been involved, such as Fiddler on the Roof, Junie B Jones the musical, Narnia the musical, and general performances at music festivals. His attitude, determination, and passion for the arts make him the best at what he does. Mr. Pestle is a relatable and outstanding teacher and director from whom I learned a great deal, and anyone would be lucky to have him!

June is an incredible asset to the Los Angeles acting community. She is bold, brave, and experienced. Her life is a true testament to the ART of acting, in craft and in deed. June routinely quotes the likes of Adler and Meisner, but even more astounding is the fact that she studied first hand with the great Uta Hagen. June currently works with the Adler Academy in Hollywood, she also teaches wonderful private lessons in her home. She is a gift to us all and I highly recommend working with her on scene study and/or audition coaching, offered at a VERY reasonable rate. She makes you feel safe, and excited, like you can say anything and everything and never be judged for it. It's a beautiful thing to be passionate about acting again. Thank you June.

June inspires real emotion and informs the actor how to not only be as genuine as possible but also shows the actor how to use classical techniques to truly master the craft. She produces new found confidence in the actor and bestows a well of knowledge in the art of acting that forges strong decision making in the actors subconscious. A complete teacher that seeks to train a well crafted skill in her students.

June Barfield is a teacher who doesn't allow the politics of differentiating and bashing the iconic acting techniques get in the way of her work. She's extremely well versed in all the teachings and has an extensive knowledge of the history of the acting craft. Specifically as a teacher she's extremely detail orientated which is a great help in achieving the moment to moment work every actor wants.

Allie once said to me that she is at her best when "engaging in the collaborative process." This is only one example of Allie's striking self awareness and excitement in engaging with others in creativity. I have had the pleasure of working with Allie for the last 4 years and during this time she is consistently someone I turn to for acting coaching. Allie has a shrewd eye, and a no bull shit attitude, that makes her someone I trust as an outside eye. This coupled with the fact that Allie truly cares about the people she works with in a deep, palpable way makes her a truly unique coach. Because Allie is thoughtful about the quality of work she facilitates, as well as the well being of those around her, I consistently leave sessions with her feeling confident in my work. I cannot recommend Allie highly enough, anyone would be lucky to work with her.

Allie worked as the acting coach for the web series I created and was an invaluable presence. I was nervous to have yet another person in the room, because I thought it might pull focus; but I was so wrong. Allie made actors and also the rest of the crew feel completely at ease. She gave incredibly specific direction in simple terms that allowed for the actors to experiment. Having a safe space to play is very important to me, and she seems to value this as much as I do. If it wasn't for Allie, the actors in this web series simply would not have been able to share their best work. She was kind but focused and made the whole process move along swiftly and effortlessly. I cannot wait to work with her again!

Allie Kauffmann is the most effective acting coach I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with in Los Angeles. Allie is friendly, positive, outgoing, intuitive, a clear communicator, and consistently inspires the best performances from experienced and inexperienced actors alike. Allie has made herself an indispensable asset to have on all of my productions. She successfully evokes strong performances take after take and delivers notes in a language actors understand and connect with. Whether you’re preparing for an upcoming role, brushing up on your skills or looking for someone to work with actors on set, I can’t recommend Allie enough.

I was cast in a leading role in a student film recently. I am not a professional actor and knew I needed help. I sought out the services of professional actor and coach Elliot Woods and I am so glad I did. He was patient, insightful, and encouraging, leading me through a series of exercises to get into the part. Elliot patiently read lines with me, making helpful suggestions as we went over the script a number of times. I highly recommend Elliot's services as an acting coach because he is that and so much more. He will take you deep into your character and help you give the best performance just waiting to be given.

Mary is a wonderful person to work with. She's productive, hard-working, and never shows a bad attitude. She coached me and my group of three other actors to for a Shakespeare competition using a scene from Troilus and Cressida. Likewise, she also served as my acting coach in a different group for a scene in Twelfth Night that was performed in Lake Arrowhead last Summer. She's a wonderful woman and one of the best actresses I know.

Many great insights into what to be aware of from a cold-read audition all the way up to on-screen shoots (master, and close-up shots). I really learned many small intricacies about myself that hindered my growth and those that come inherent in the trade that can make or break you. My only major complaint is that there never seems to be enough time. Haha. The on-screen portion would be awesome with lighting and audio but that would also contribute to time consumption. David and Jeremy have been fantastic, though, and are proving that there are people in this industry who care about you and your succcess. I really do love it.

Michelle Delgado changed my daughter’s life! My daughter Samantha was terrified of speaking in public. She had a fear of being recognized and she lacked confidence. Samantha played a warrior in of one of Michelle’s plays. She had to be a strong leader, a brave leader with a voice that all could hear. The first few times she wanted to quit, she didn’t think she could pull it off. With Michelle’s guidance and support my daughter had a successful performance! She went from not having a voice to becoming a leader! The best thing of all is that it didn’t stop with her performance. This past school year she decided to run for class president. In the beginning she went back to her old habits and didn’t know if she could speak publicly in front of so many students! The next day she ran up to me and said, “Mom, I can do this! I remember everything that Michelle taught me. She taught me how to speak up and use my voice. She taught me how to be strong and brave. I can do this! Well guess what? She is now class President! I know that this would not have been possible without Michelle's support. Sarah Marshall

Awesome place for kids to learn and master the art of music... My daughter took guitar, piano and voice lessons... Unfortunately we had to move and she can no longer attend... I am happy that my daughter had the opportunity to be a student at this family owned music school and I hope she can come back in the near future.....
