My dog Tristan, a standard poodle, is getting elderly and has arthritis with very bad weakness in his back legs so it has gotten to the point that taking him to a groomer is too hard on him and more dangerous of him getting hurt. I am so thankful I found Desiree who does in-home groom visits where Tristan can be comfortable, not have to stand so long and can now even lay down in the comfort of my home and get groomed. Desiree was on time, she took time to let Tristan warm up to her, she was so gentle and has the experience to gently handle my elderly dog, she cleaned up after, she was so friendly and easy to talk to and Tristan looked wonderful afterwards! She even helped put a name to a possible health problem just from hearing Tristan cough so will ask my vet about it. I am so happy to have found Desiree and she has gained a permanent customer.

Dani is the only person I would trust with my dog when we go out of town. She truly treats each dog as if they were her own. My dog always seems happy and well cared for when we pick him up. Her rates are very reasonable, she is flexible with pick up and drop-off times, and responds quickly to texts and calls. As a dog breeder and handler, Dani is obviously an expert in caring for and loving dogs, and I trust her absolutely with my precious baby. I know he will be safe and loved with her and her family and I never worry when he is with her.

Our senior dog was wandering near our pool and Heather rushed right over to put her back behind the gate so she couldn't fall in. This dog is 17, can't hear and can hardly walk. I was worried about leaving her with a pet sitter but I now see how dedicated Heather is and I am much less worried now.

Heather came out free of charge for a meet & greet with my german shepherd & she was great. Received a lot of great information. She has a wonderful personality, very caring towards animals in general & off the back, you can tell she knows her stuff. I look forward to working with her on my dog.

I had to go out of town for two weeks and need someone to take care of my Aussie. She is pretty shy and not real social with strangers. My dog is very spoiled and her schedule is pretty firm. It was a LOT to ask anyone to take her. I called every night and got a report of thier day. Dori is fun loving and took awesome care of my spoiled girl! To this day my dog gets excited when we see Dori!!

Micaela came to our house to work with our two dogs, both about 2 1/2 years old and in need of some basic obedience and leash training. She had a great way with the dogs, was very observant of their behavior and temperaments, and was patient with both them and me! That last part was important because some of the training techniques do not seem intuitive to me. Additionally, Micaela followed up with an email that reviewed what we had done and included specific instructions about how we should work with the dogs. It's only been one session, but I was very pleased.

We received excellent dog care service from Beatrix. Our rescue dog came with many behavioral issues (especially on walks), and all our concerns were treated with kind consideration and patience from Beatrix. I would recommend her to anyone who might have misgivings about trusting a stranger with their four-legged kids.

I will walk your dogs or watch them in my home. I have a pet- and kid-friendly home. I will come and pick up or can be dropped off.

I am a new dog walker. I started with my brother's dog, walking him around, so that way, he wasn't cooped up in the backyard. So now, I want to walk other dogs that want to go walk around and no longer be sheltered in the backyard.

I love animals of all sorts so I am pleased to take your pets on walks as much as needed. I truly have a special love for animals and love being out and about with all of them. If you are looking for a person who you can trust and know your family member is in good hands then try me out. I take great pride in how i treat all of them.

I have previous experience walking dogs and taking them to the park. I can do overnight stays (cageless) in my home with your dog. I also offer poop scoop services. I can also make dog treats and a cake for dog's special day.

I love all kinds of dogs, and I enjoy spending time with them. I like to go on long walks and enjoy having a companion to go with me.

I am currently going to school at the University of Arizona and I need a summer job walking dogs. I have had dogs my whole life, young or old, you name it. I will love your dog as if it was my own. Since I am back from school, I will have an open schedule the whole time I am here. I hope I am able to walk your do or doggies soon. My paws are always clean!

I love dogs! I enjoy walking dogs and interacting with all dogs. I have owned up to five dogs at a time. I'm an animal lover, and I would love to walk your dog!

When I walk with animals, either in the heat of summer or dead of winter, I truly enjoy myself. I like getting to know the owners and the animals I meet to create a more positive, friendly experience.

We stand out because we are doing it for the love of animals and to teach responsibility to the next generation.

I have lots of experience with pet sitting, feeding, and walking. I have 3 small dogs of my own; I love animals! References are available.

I love dogs and believe they like to be walked. Well, I like walking and decided this is a good fit. I need to supplement my income due to divorce and age (I will find it hard to start work in my normal field). I'm flexible and easy to work with. Dogs are like children to me; they will be hydrated properly and happy to get out.

I am very outgoing and adventurous person. I love taking my siblings and pets to the park and playing with them. I love kids, and animals. I usually take the dogs that I walk to parks after we go on our walk and let them run around a play for a little bit before I take them home.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

      • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
      • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
      • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
      • What are your different walk routes?
      • When will you pick up and drop off?
      • How will we communicate?
      • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
      • What’s your cancellation policy?
      • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
      • How and how often do I pay you?
      • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
