We are so happy with the work Armand did for us. He is so easy to work with. And the finished product is gorgeous! He goes the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect. He even added light switch plates that match the bathroom better with the new wallpaper. We will definitely be hiring him again and encourage everyone to make him your first choice for painting and wallpaper.

Mike is a great guy to deal with. He is responsive and his prices are reasonable. His crew lay new vinyl for our whole house, painted the entire inside and completely gutted two bathrooms and build them back up.

Ramirez exceeded my expectations. I accidentally spilled acetone on our wood table and ruined the finish on one of the leafs. I knew I didn't have the skills to fix it myself, but I didn't want to spend a ton of money on it either. I reached out to a few pros via Thumbtack and Task Rabbit. Ramirez was the first to respond and offered to come over and give an estimate for free. He came that same day, explained exactly what he would do and how long it would take, and gave the best price by a long-shot. When it came to be the day of our service, he showed up on time and got to work. He was very polite, non-intrusive, and task-oriented, so I felt comfortable having him work in the back when I was the only one home. He sanded the damaged leaf and lightly sanded the other leaves to make sure the table was even. He had brought a color that he thought would work but, after matching it to the undamaged parts of the table, he decided to go and purchase a better match. The end result made the table look brand new. He did a fantastic job and was sure to give me a few pointers before he left (i.e. how long I should wait before setting anything on the table). On his way out, I asked him how much it would cost to have him come back and repair some damaged stucco on the exterior of the house. (We had family over and one of them clipped the corner of the house with their car, which damaged the stucco and paint.) He said that it was an easy fix, got his tools, and did it before he left for free. He even helped me find the paint in the garage since I wasn't quite sure which one it was. Great service. Great work. I'd use him again and recommend him without hesitation. Thanks, Ramirez!!!

A great company to work with. Very responsive right from my initial request with Thumbtack. James responded right away. I set up an appointment to review my house needs. He arrived on time and was prepared to discuss what they could (or could not) do for me in detail. I was impressed with his approach. After walking entirely around my home and pointing out my concerns, we drew up a simple contract on the spot. I hired his company to do some soft house pressure washing where needed and some repainting and touch up on our exterior trim areas. They also did a great job cleaning our old bird nest areas under our eaves. Our neighbors all walked by to look at the results and let me know how good it looked after their work. They were pleasant, professional in their approach, good workers and eager to do everything well. I was especially pleased with our communication and that they did exactly what they said they would and within the specific timeframes we both established together. The price was satisfactory for the amount of work required. I would recommend giving them an opportunity to show their professional exterior house cleaning/pressure washing and painting skills. Thanks James.

I've worked with a dozen contractors of all sorts in the last year to get 2 of my properties in order. All of them told me they could paint and I hired a few of them to do it but unfortunately hiring someone to paint doesn't make them a painter. Their jobs were cheap but sloppy and if you are painting it's beause you are about aesthetics. Nothing is worse than a bad paint job to ruin a perfect remodel. Johnny was amazing. He painted the interior of my house and his meticulous multistage process was nothing I had seen before, he's an artist and his rate is a steal. I was planning on hiring him to help paint with me but after he finished the first room I noticed he did a fantastic job! I figured I would rather have a born-to-be craftsman paint my whole house than have half of it done sloppily u me and the other half percent by him. So I just stopped painting and let him finish the house. Johnny is our go-to guy for anything painting.

Nelsen did a thorough and awesome job on the interior of my old house and made it look brand new. He sanded all my doors and other areas that needed sanding. My home is very old so it needed a lot of sanding. He did such a great job that I even had him paint the exterior of the home. He also did an awesome job on the exterior, painted my porch and the porch fence. All our neighbors and family member commented on the job !!

Zuriel, is the best person I’ve ever had come and work on my projects. Very professional from the initial phone call, showing up on time, assessment of the project and providing constant updates to me and my sister. He had a person repair my broken water pipe, and then he drywalled the area after a few days to determine if the pipes were not leaking. Then another few days of painting and texture on the ceiling, drying and repeat. He matched the paints perfectly. Great value for the price and expertise. My schedule was chaotic and he worked around it and also with my sis to get the job completed on time. If he was running late, he sent me a text or called. I’m so pleased that I’ve walked him thru my house showing other projects. I know he is advertised as a painter but he is knowledgeable about other house maintenance projects.

I have had Dawn and her husband work for me on several occasions. Dawn has done three murals for me in various rooms in my house and an outdoor mural in the patio. Her husband has done several specialty painting of walls in my house and has done an outside patio of faux bricks--amazing. They are creative, talented and resourceful. They do outstanding, quality work in a timely manner. They are totally reliable and dependable. It's a joy to work with them.

My husband and I purchased our home a little over a year ago and the work that needed to be done on it required a lot of care to detail. It's an older home and we had a lot stuff that I wanted restored on top of painting the actual house. I will admit that I'm not always the easiest client to work with as I can be very particular about how I want things done. My husband and I both have demanding jobs so we really didn't have a lot of time to be around the house. But we were so relieved to have found this company as they assured us that it would all be taken care of within our timeframe. Not only did they do a fantastic job but they were incredibly patient with me and the vision I had in mind for our home. I'm so pleased and excited that I now get to enjoy and share this space with our friends and family for the years to come as we ourselves begin to grow our own little family. Thank you so much Nick for making our dream home come to life!

SoCal Brothers painted the exterior and the interior of my house including my kitchen cabinets. They did a great job! Very professional, on time and clean. I could tell that they do great quality of work from the first day they came in. They didn't start until they covered everything with plastic cover and put tape all over the place. I was very impressed. I used other painting companies in the past but none of them came even close to that. My family came over to my house on the weekend after the it was painted. Their minds were blown away!! Thank you Alan and the team. Keep up the good work!

We hired the Los Angeles Painters to paint the interior of our 3,500 square feet house. They were flexible with our personal schedule and collaborative to operate within our budget. They even made great design recommendations that increased the value of their work and our level of satisfaction. Overall, the entire team worked with us to make the experience smooth and flawless. The work was completed ahead of schedule and exceeded our expectations. The team worked diligently each day. Always arriving on time and happy to work a little extra late in order to get the work accomplished. Everyone on the team was friendly, professional, trustworthy and an expert at their craft. At the very end of 2013, I met with Mike Bellotti and we discussed the exterior painting of my California bungalow. We quickly decided on the color and I left the way in which the trim should be done to Mr. Bellotti. By Jan 2, 2014, my entire home was painted carefully and beautifully. In 40 years I have never seen painters work so carefully. They were prompt, spatter-free!! AND AMAZINGLY, DID NOT DAMAGE ANY OF THE PLANTS SURROUNDING THE HOUSE.- a first! The pricing was extremely reasonable, fair and I will certainly use them again. I can wholeheartedly recommend Bellotti Painting to everyone far and wide and hope you are lucky enough to meet and use this reputable company. Oscar winners, for sure.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
