Hi! My name is Samantha Romero-Flores and I am a ex professional ballerina and current Musical Theatre and freelance dancer in Los Angeles, CA. I trained at many schools and companies including the Atlanta Ballet, The Georgia Ballet, Orlando Ballet, Rochester City Ballet, Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C., Fiona Fairrie Ballet Conservatory, Nashville Ballet, and Broadway Artist Alliance. I have performed professionally for the past 7 years, and now I want to show you all my tips, tricks, and techniques to take your dancing to the next level! Whether you’re working towards a career with a Ballet company, are a passionate hobbyist, or you have your sights set for Broadway, my curriculum, which I have taught at schools and professional conservatories around the country, will give you all the tools required to accomplish your goals! I am committed to the belief that dance training needs to be as personally tailored to you as your body is. There is no “cookie cutter” technique. I love private lessons so much because, unlike in crowded group classes, we get a chance to give you the individual attention you deserve and really pinpoint ways to help your dancing shine! I have also been a part of the most current audition seasons, so I can guarantee you will receive industry standard styles and audition prep. I can’t wait to help you unlock powerful artistry and storytelling through dance!See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do you wear to swing dance lessons?

Swing dance is an increasingly popular style of ballroom dance with a dress code that reflects its roots in the 1920s-1940s jazz era. Although many studios don’t require historically accurate costumes for their private dance lessons, many dancers want to dress the part. You can wear clothes that are comfortable to move — and sweat — in, such as T-shirts and loose skirts or khakis. Or for an appropriately vintage look, women often wear shirt dresses with a knee-length A-line or circle skirt that allows for plenty of swishy movement. Men usually opt for a button-down shirt and trousers. The most important part of a swing dance outfit is the shoes. Both men and women can opt for simple sneakers, like Keds, or leather dance shoes, such as saddle shoes. Until you have several dance lessons under your belt, stay away from heels.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
