Roberto, the owner, repeatedly failed to follow through on scheduled communication. He would not call when promised and instead sent last-minute texts stating he was coming over without prior notice. On the day planting commenced (not scheduled), he texted at 8:41 AM saying he was coming immediately to begin work. I informed him I was about to undergo a medical procedure and would be available at noon. Despite this, he continued calling and texting to the point that I had to turn off my phone to avoid disruption during the procedure.
When I returned home, only about one-quarter of the plants I had requested were delivered, and many of those appeared dead or in poor condition. At the end of the second day, Roberto signed a receipt acknowledging he had been paid in full to that point ($4,910). However, the very next work morning (Thursday 4/2/26), he demanded additional payment before continuing any work and threatened arbitration if I did not comply. This directly contradicted our written contract, which clearly states payment is due at the end of each completed workday.
There was also a dispute regarding labor. The contract specified payment for three workers per day ($380/day per worker, $1,140/day total), but Roberto claimed there were four or more workers present. My Ring camera showed this was not accurate and there were periods during the first day where workers were present but not actively working.
I later learned from a local nursery, Green Acres, that this contractor had already been flagged as problematic. The representative I spoke with indicated they were warning others in their network as well.
The situation escalated to the point where Roberto called the police (for their “keep the peace” service because I refused to pay him more money for work that he hadn’t completed and supplies that I had already paid for. The responding officer made it clear this was a civil matter and that their role was only to ensure there was no disturbance. Immediately after the officer left, Roberto and his workers removed materials that I had purchased, including supplies necessary for the project, and even removed the water main caps, leaving me unable to water my yard without causing flooding.
I provided Roberto with full documentation of our agreement, including texts, call logs, and the signed contract, but received no response.
As a result, I was left with an incomplete project, additional costs to fix damage and remove debris and materials, with a financial loss of over $4,900.00.
I would strongly advise others to proceed with extreme caution.
