  1. #1 Music by Michelle

    (30 reviews)

    Christina D.

Michelle has been teaching my son how to play the piano for about 1 month now and I must say I am truly happy with her and also my son's progress with the piano. Michelle has established a great relationship with him in such a short amount of time. I enjoy not only listening to my son play the piano, but watching their interaction. He has such a huge smile on his face when practicing with Michelle.

  2. #2 Jeanne's Starr Studio

    (14 reviews)

    William K.

Jeanne is an excellent teacher and has the patience to teach older as well as young students. I really like the fact that I can learn on my own piano. Also she gave me many wonderful tips on how to learn difficult piece and is relentless about counting which is the only way to play a piece correctly.

  6. #6 Juju's Piano Lesson

    (7 reviews)

    Erica T.

My children (ages 7 and 10) have been taking piano lessons from Ms. Junko for over a year now, and have made tremendous progress. She challenges them each week with new songs, practice in theory, finger form, and dynamics. She adjusts the homework depending on the progress each child is making, and has always been sensitive and understanding when we run into a hectic week and the children aren't able to practice as much as planned. Ms. Junko's teaching style is kind, positive, and demanding at the same time, and she keeps my kids motivated!

  9. #9 Zsa Zsa Queen

    (4 reviews)

    Jason L.

Great. Very patient with my 5 year old. She is able to redirect him and keep him interested at the same time. Not such an easy feat if you ask me. Engaging children and keeping them interested with a single task is the challenging part of teaching young and early grade school children. She is quite capable in this regard which gives the parent peace of mind.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Piano and Performance Pedagogy

(8 reviews)

Both voice and piano are talents that flourish with time and repetition. They are based on muscle memory as much as lifting weights or running or any athletic pursuit, just different muscles!

Marsha of Piano and Performance Pedagogy has 25 years of teaching experience. She can help hone the talent you already have or stir an untouched interest in the entertainment business. Marsha is also a life and relationship coach. She can share tools and skills in boosting the confidence level, discovering the musician within oneself and in setting goals toward excellence.

I can take the core beauty and talent they were born with, and show them how to create their own beauty, fun and satisfying experience. Keeping a student happy is simple; treat them with respect, honor my own promises and work to make certain that their experience exceeds their expectation.

Marsha takes pride in her students providing music at a recital in a nativity exhibit. For some, it was their first experience in performing, but everyone did a lovely job. Even a couple who were frightened found the confidence to perform in front of 4,000 people. It was a memorable event.

  • Patient Lessons in Guitar, Bass, Piano & Tutoring. Columbia Univ, MA: Music & Computer Science.

    (8 reviews)

I put my heart and soul into my lessons. Lessons are patient, positive oriented, student centered, and use the latest scientific research into how people learn music. At Columbia University, I began a lifelong study into the scholarly research on how people actually learn music, as well as the effect of learning music on the brain. As someone that has spent a career as a teacher and computer scientist, I have strong academic skills and also offer tutoring, emphasizing understanding of concepts. I love to teach and work with people in all academic areas. My lessons are holistic, I provide a complete musical education. It is far easier to play what one understands, and then one can play all forms of music. I include music theory, a wide variety of songs, exploring and understanding the elements and theory of music. And, when all is said and done, it's about playing with as much beauty and feeling as possible. I am very positive oriented with my students. I avoid criticism like the plague. I believe that each student is unique and all lessons are designed for the individual. In addition, I was trained in healthy ergonomics and ensure student's long term health, not only on their instrument but a life with computers. I love to teach. Thus, I am very enthusiastic and energetic. Of course watching a student grow musically is an incredible experience. I often feel I'm planting seeds for the student's future. It is great to focus just on my teaching. After a lifetime of supporting Mission Critical computing systems, including classified systems, vendor support (Tier III). Now I took an early retirement to focus on private lessons. Music lessons can change people's lives. I change people's lives. And, if someone needs help with academics, I am happy to help, emphasizing understanding the underlying concepts of math and science, while improving reading and writing skills. These were skills required my entire professional career.

I took lessons as a kid, and loved it. When my small town teacher moved, I couldn't find a new one. Have always regretted not continuing. Would like to pick it up again. Last piece I learned (as a kid) was Prelude in C Minor, if that helps at all.
