  • Music Lessons

    (12 reviews)

I'm a professional music instructor with over 10 years of teaching experience. I offer private lessons for guitar, bass, piano and voice, as well as classes in Music Theory and Composition. I've had students as old as 70 and as young as 5 with a variety of different learning styles. While lessons are designed to be fun and accessible for players of all ages and skill levels, they're also tailored to assist each student in achieving their goals. I believe music is a language. Thus, a lesson with me would touch on all the topics that might be covered in a language class (AND MORE): - theory = grammar - ear training = vocabulary - sight reading = literacy skills - composition = speech writing - repertoire = speech memorization - technique/articulations = enunciation - improvisation & collaborative skills = basic conversation skills - musicianship skills = musical multitasking (singing and playing at the same time, etc.) - recording experience, etc. I can help you bridge gaps in your knowledge, isolate hang-ups in your technique, learn to read music, write your own songs, collaborate with other players, recognize chords & scales by ear, communicate with other players about music on a technical level, explore new styles of playing, take your playing to the next level, and unlock your musical identity. Whatever your goals may be, I can help. I like to use the game Rocksmith to teach repertoire for guitar & bass students.

  • Learn Jazz Piano

    (1 reviews)

I teach blues, gospel, pop and jazz piano, and I teach how to play the piano by ear. I am a former professor of music at William Jessup University in Rocklin, CA. I teach piano lessons with grace and style at my studio. If you know anything about John Thompson, Suzuki Method and Alfred's approach to teaching, I use many of those principles and concepts. I offer piano instruction with an emphasis on the student learning how to play by ear, how to improvise, learn Chords, Voicings, walking Bass lines, instead of the desires of the instructor. I provide a varied lesson which is well balanced and includes theory, exercises, fun, performance and quality work. 20 years plus of teaching have given insights impossible for a NEW instructor. As a life coach in addition, your lesson will ultimately include skills in many areas of goal setting, success and confidence. Previous students now bring their children to PPP to carry on the tradition of class, education and a love of the arts. I have been a Studio Musican and a Recording Artist for Commerical Name Artist-

Each student has unique and specific goals, and I make it my mission to help them succeed. The lessons encompass sight-reading, ear training, theory and improvisation. Performance skills are honed through regularly held recitals in a hall with a fantastic sound system and a beautiful 1920's Steinway grand piano. My current students vary greatly in terms of age and experience level, and my pricing is competitive. TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: I think students will find that learning music is a truly fun, rewarding, and exciting creative experience. However, like many things in life, it requires time, patience, and hard work. Speaking from experience, I can tell you the satisfaction is well worth the effort. As a teacher, I consider lessons to be an interactive process, a two-way street: my job is to help the student achieve their musical goals and the student's job is to put in the work and focus to help get to those goals. Everyone has unique reasons for deciding to learn an instrument or take lessons. If there is something very particular the student would like to learn, they should let me know, and I will do my best to help them. BACKGROUND / BIO: In addition to having many years of teaching experience both privately and as an instructor at Pacific Institute of Music and Natomas School of Music I am also a member of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC). I graduated magna cum laude from Sacramento State with a Bachelor's of Music in Theory/Composition (Applied Piano). Piano and Performance Pedagogy

(8 reviews)

Both voice and piano are talents that flourish with time and repetition. They are based on muscle memory as much as lifting weights or running or any athletic pursuit, just different muscles!

Marsha of Piano and Performance Pedagogy has 25 years of teaching experience. She can help hone the talent you already have or stir an untouched interest in the entertainment business. Marsha is also a life and relationship coach. She can share tools and skills in boosting the confidence level, discovering the musician within oneself and in setting goals toward excellence.

I can take the core beauty and talent they were born with, and show them how to create their own beauty, fun and satisfying experience. Keeping a student happy is simple; treat them with respect, honor my own promises and work to make certain that their experience exceeds their expectation.

Marsha takes pride in her students providing music at a recital in a nativity exhibit. For some, it was their first experience in performing, but everyone did a lovely job. Even a couple who were frightened found the confidence to perform in front of 4,000 people. It was a memorable event.
