To Whom It May Concern:
Calvin S. Kiomegne has been a volunteer here at the Western Addition
Community Technology Center since December 2009.
We are located in the San Francisco Western Addition Neighborhood, particularly the Fillmore District. San Francisco's African American community has suffered from crime, poverty and low expectations to succeed in academics.
The Western Addition Community Technology Center was established to bridge the digital divide and has offered training to all aged groups. We have given special attention to those students needing additional classroom work support. Like many nonprofit organizations with this focus on youth, attracting talented volunteers is one of the keys to our success. Calvin has more than satisfied all expectations needed in this endeavor. Many of the students of this community were not achieving the success necessary to advance to more than a service base employment opportunity.
Calvin's ability to make complex math and science details easy to understand and retain has led to a significant number of students from this
community to enjoy learning math from pre-algebra through calculus
beyond their own expectations. Their new found love for solving complex equations has given them the ability to achieve success in their classes. From my personal observation, I believe that Calvin has demonstrated proper academic coaching of youth in this high need student population.
