Everyone advised me against learning swimming as an adult but I took a chance with Veronique as my swimming-instructor and she proved everyone wrong. I am a BIG person and she made me overcome all my phobias and helped me learn. She is a really patient teacher and respects your limitations, and yet pushes you subtly to get out of your comfort zone. I am really happy that I found her and I highly recommend her as a swimming instructor for both kids and adults. The best part is she slips in a little bit of workout and Yoga tips into your swimming class, which helps you A LOT once you are in water and actually swimming :)

First of all, the best thing about her lesson was showing me how much fun it is to swim in open water. Luckily I had Suzie’s private lesson to introduce me to swimming in AP. She taught me the basics, such as how to enter the water and be at ease in a cold water. Also, she gave me clear, practical advice for my goal of swimming from Alcatraz: starting from a boat entry, directions to AP, pacing, and coping with cramps, choppy water, etc. She always provides encouragement, as well as tells me how to improve. As a beginner, I learned many techniques in a short time, but more importantly she teaches how great open-water swimming is! Thank you, Suzie.

Scott has been training me at the YMCA for my first triathlon. Since it is my first one and I don't know anything, he has been super helpful. He is very knowledgable about body mechanics and form on the bike, running, swimming and strength training, which is helpful in improving your performance and in preventing injuries. Scott is also has a deep understanding of nutrition and how that helps your training. He is also very friendly and helpful with any questions.

I have been taking adult swim lessons for the past few months and have been very pleased with Maggie as my instructor. She customized the learning to focus on not only swimming efficiency, but also techniques that are critical for when I am in the ocean body boarding. Maggie very good at explaining the how and why and provides good practice tips. The prices are very fair and the ambiance makes you feel like you at ease. It never feels like you are rushed and they also allow practice when there are no lessons.

Anna was my son's swim coach in Menlo swim and sport. My son had taken swim lessons elsewhere in the past. We were not too happy with them. Our first coach in Menlo swim wasnt too impressive either. But, Lindsey, the manager there recommended Anna to us stating that Anna is a very patient and skilled coach. She was indeed right. My son learnt a lot from her in a very short period of time and he improved vastly. I'd highly recommend her if you are looking for someone to coach your child.

I hired Alyssa for 5 lessons for my daughter (G). (G) always seemed to be struggling in group classes. Alyssa quickly identified (G) had been given poor instruction and worked with her to correct her technique. I loved how Alyssa walked beside (G) on each lap - she was never more than 5 feet away, so was able to accurately communicate what was needed next for continual improvement.

Excellent swim instruction for my 5.5 year old. Very technique oriented yet in a fun and friendly way. She won't learn any bad habits and is learning the strokes in the proper manner. My daughter can not wait to go back for swim lessons every week!

About

Because my background has been in competitive aquatics, I have been able to create a lesson plan that is geared towards competitive development. My belief is that it is important to learn how to swim as you would compete with it for the best results. It is important to learn technically vs practically. The swim lessons that I offer are completely tailored to my clients and their goals. I have been teaching swim lessons privately and for other swim schools locally for over 5 years years while continuing to train as a collegiate athlete. As new techniques and cutting edge systems are brought up through my training, I integrate them into my swim process for the most current and advanced guidance for maximum results.

About

Hello! My name is Jen, and I'm a 26-year-old assistant aquatic director at U.C. Berkeley who would love nothing more than to teach you or your child to swim. Swimming and swimming instruction are my passions that I enjoy sharing with others. I have 10 years of experience working with children and adults of all ages, including children with fear of water, special needs, and other specific circumstances. I have experience coaching swimming at the masters level and waterpolo. I am lifeguard and lifeguard instructor certified, emergency medical responder certified as well as CPR certified for the professional rescuer (adult and pediatric). I live in the Oakland area, but would be willing to travel in the evenings to either teach at your home or local community pool. Swim lessons can be expensive and often impersonal. As someone who has worked in aquatic programs for a long time, my wish is that your child will get a quality experience at a cost less than what you would pay at a swim school. My rates are as follows: * A single private lesson (30 minutes) -- $40 * A package of five private lessons -- $175 * A package of 10 private lessons -- $300 Before any lessons are taught, a swim lesson agreement will be signed as well as payment in full. Because I work full-time, I will only be taking on one to two clients depending on location and the amount of lessons that are paid for. I have references available upon request, who would be more than willing to speak on my behalf. Have a great day!
