Sergey was great! I hired him to help with a few fixes in our new condo, including mounting a TV, fixing bathroom cabinet doors, installing an under-cabinet garbage pull-out and a few other small fixes. Sergey was super professional, arrived on time, and fixed everything pretty quickly! It was a pleasure and I'll definitely hire him again in the future for fixes in the use.

Ricardo is awesome! He responded to my proposal to install our bathroom fan really fast, and then responded to my text to schedule super fast, too. He was here on time, and he texted me right before to let me know he was on his way. The installation wasn't straightforward - my husband tried to do it, but we seemed to be missing a wire to connect the fan part. Ricardo figured it out really quickly and was able to get things up and running super fast. I would definitely hire Ricardo again!

I had Tom come over to see if he could expand my cabinet for my new fridge - however he was very helpful in pointing out that , the way stuff was setup - it was going to be very hard to put the fridge in without changing the cabinets and that was a no go. Giving a 5 stars for professionalism and helpfulness.

Showed up on time and did a good job installing two bathroom fans. The job took a little longer and costed a little more than estimated, but most of the blame probably lies with the state of our old house.

Armando is very detail oriented, thorough and extremely gracious. Initially he painted two bathrooms and one bedroom. He was the only painter to notice that my daughter's bedroom walls were painted, rather than wallpapered as multiple other painters who bid on the job assumed; this had significant impact regrading how to proceed. He and his team are pleasant, respectful, responsive, and easy to have around. When asked, they kindly cleaned and replaced some light bulbs in fixtures that are extremely hard to reach. We have already hired him to paint the entire exterior of the house and WILL HIRRE HIM FOR ANY FUTURE PAINTING.

I hired Regina and Jason team to remodel my upstairs bathroom. They are a very good team: Regina is very good in the tile work while Jason is great with the foundation work. They are also very fun to work with. I am very happy with the results and will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who needs nice remodeling projects.

I contacted Chuck for my mom, she doesn't go online, and she was very pleased with the outcome. I don't know what she paid for the work, otherwise I may have clicked "value" as well. I think she said it was similar to some other quotes she had gotten. What was not similar though, and what my mom was very happy about was the responsiveness, follow through, and results that she received from Chuck and his crew. Months ago, my mom had 2 or 3 estimates given to her but for some reason or another those contractors did not follow through. Chuck was very responsive with call backs and an estimate, and began the project quickly thereafter. His crew was always prompt, continuously working, and each day's clean up at the end was perfect - they very considerate how they left the area. One thing that may be good to mention for those reading this and looking for a contractor, is that my mother and I felt comfortable and safe with them in the house at times we had to leave for work. My mother is older and I am very cautious and skeptical of people in general, but we both quickly noticed that Chuck and each of his crew that showed up were straight forward, easy going and courteous at all times, so they were easy to be around. As for the bathroom remodel, my mom loves it! Even when there was a snag for a second they helped my mom through it and got her to the new bathroom she's been wanting for years--- thanks Chuck! My first job with Steve was my back fence, which he painted in short order. It is beautiful! Next, he painted the outside of the house. I am currently having him paint my inside rooms as his time allows. His prices are quite reasonable, especially for the Bay Area. He is meticulous in his painting and his cleanups. He is always prompt and very considerate of the neighbors.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
