Patrick and his associate helped me move the contents of a small one-bedroom cottage into two 5x8x8 Door-Door containers. They arrived on time, assessed the job, and approached a complicated spatial maneuvering with efficiency and coordination. They were careful and skillful, and in no more than 2 hours had both containers filled to the door and ceiling, with the weight balanced and nothing free to shift in transit. I highly recommend Patrick for moves of this kind and would hire him again.

After the recent heavy rains, a dark dye leaked out of a coir doormat I had just bought and badly stained the cement at my front door. Arisel offered three possible solutions to the problem, ranging from trying to bleach and power washing it off to repouring the affected rectangle of cement. Because I anticipated difficulty in getting the approval of my condo community and wanted my front door to look nice again right away, I opted for the bleach/power washing option. It completely removed the stain! Arisel was great in every other aspect of the job, too. He responded promptly and thoroughly to all emails and texts, fit me in immediately and at a time convenient to my work schedule, and also had a cheerful yet professional demeanor. I plan to hire him again soon to replace some faulty ceiling lights and handle any other projects that come up.

I asked Ricardo to install earthquake latches on my kitchen cabinets along with childproof latches on bottom cabinets. He also did weatherstripping and installed a chain lock on my front door. Ricardo was on time and pleasant to work with. He was extremely diligent and although the original project I estimated to be 1-2 hours, I added work and Ricardo ended up staying over 6 hours to do all the added cabinets and work I asked for. I ended up asking him if he could fix a drawer in our bedroom and other various tasks that have been sitting around broken for a long time. He is coming back tomorrow to do those tasks! I am so happy to have found Ricardo and have many more projects around the house that I hope he can work on!

One of the first things Gleo told me was that he had a regular job and would be able to work on weekends. He did two jobs for me at a rental. One was installing a medicine cabinet and interior lock. He did not complete repair of drywall repair by the cabinet. The other job was installation of a security door. He installed the medicine cabinet, lock and security door in a good manner. He did not complete an addition to the bottom of the security door. He was pleasant, on time, cleaned up well, and cooperative but for the incomplete items. I wanted him to paint a bath in S.F. at another rental but, he did not give me an estimate (perhaps too far away). Manelis Properties

Mr. Castro arrived on time and did a great job. He replaced the weather stripping under the door - no more shreds of rubber, and, there's a nice tight seal around the door, just like new. He has excellent customer communication skills.

Outstanding work! He fixed my door which was badly damaged and made it look brand new. He then installed a new lock on the same door. He saved me the cost of having to buy a new door. This was a last minute request from me and was very nice and accommodating. I will hire him again to do other projects. Very dependable and professional.

Rafael is very professional. I hired him for a number of projects, such as installing dishwasher, range hood, kitchen faucet, door locks, garbage disposal, outdoor light fixtures, fixing windows handle, etc. He did amazing job and quality work. For example, previous cabinet is 36in (two 18in doors). Rafael installed 24in dishwasher and made a 12in door like the original cabinet. It is really amazing. When he finished his work everyday, he always cleaned everything up. He also cares about details. I would like to recommend him to everyone, and I would like to hire him again for my future projects.

HONESTLY, Fernando was a dream come true. He was hired to repair, sand and stain double “very expensive” front doors. I️ INSISTED on paying him a greater amount then quote because he was a perfectionist. On time every day, VERY professional. We literally can’t wait until we can have Fernando paint our house and some rooms. Highly recommend 😀!! Thx, Dean

Victor ended up helping me redo a bathroom including partial flooring, installing a shower door and new toilet, new sink cabinet, removing the large mirror and repainting the wall. He was heoric in locating and fixing the main into the apartment unit, situated deepin the garage with no map. Victor also removed all the old items and took them to the dumpster, with a nice cleanup, all at a reasonable price. I would recommend Victor to anyone who needs help in bathroom work, as well.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.
