About

I feel grateful for finding Garrick on Thumbtack! He has taught my 8 year old son, who is a beginner at guitar. Garrick's infectious love for life and music has really inspired my son. He has offered a great mix of fun and technique during lessons and my son was quickly able to play songs and enjoy playing his instrument. I would highly recommend Garrick as a teacher.

About

I had a great experience with Mark. I am an intermediate guitar player that wanted to deepen my understanding of soloing over the blues. Mark is a talented musician, deeply rooted in theory. He has the feel of a studio musician, able to sound great over a wide variance of styles. As a teacher, he has a knack for taking complicated subjects and breaking them down into understandable bite-size lessons. My advice for intermediate learners interested in Mark as a teacher: 1. Come with a defined goal 2. Practice throughout the week 3. Remind Mark exactly where you left off and don't be afraid to ask for specific lessons pertaining to what you want to learn If you keep these things in mind you'll be able to make the most out of your time with him!

About

Cheryl is an amazing teacher. My oldest kid has been learning piano from Cheryl for more than 5 years and my second one is her student about 2 years. Cheryl is very patient to students but she also sets high standard for them, especially the basic skills, like tempo and fingers position. Moreover, she explains very detail for every piece of music, even the very easy one, she can turn it truly beautiful. My kids not only can play piano, they also can appreciate music. She doesn't push students to the competition or piano examination. However, when my daughter asked that she wanted to take ABRSM, Cheryl made all efforts to help her. Customized practice plan, extra lessons, many tips and lots of encouragements. Finally, my daughter passed ABRSM 5 grade, and had big improvement in all aspects. In conclusion, I highly recommend Cheryl. Not only a good teacher, but also a good pianist. Just listening to her play piano is an enjoyment.

About

My 3 sons have taken piano lessons with Laura over the past 9 years. Laura does a wonderful job of teaching piano technique, music theory and music history in a engaging and positive way. The music education they receive is much deeper and more comprehensive than what I have observed from other piano teachers in the area. I highly recommend piano lessons with Laura!

Matt is an incredibly talented musician and teacher, and I can't say enough good things about him! I highly recommend him! He makes learning music fun and totally accessible for my son, who's 15. Matt is easy-going, supportive, fun, kind, and teaches music skills and theory through songs that his students pick and are interested in. My son gets to choose the songs he wants to learn, so "practicing" is a non-issue, since he loves the songs and gets to enjoy playing with them until their next lesson together. I couldn't find a better fit if I tried. My son loves it that Matt is a celebrated local musician who he has seen play and can tell his friends about and be proud of. When my kid grows up to be a rock star, or someone who can sit down with an instrument and play and sing songs that he and others love, we'll have Matt to thank. On top of all that, Matt makes house calls and has affordable rates! Now I just have to find the time to schedule my own lessons with him... :)

Denis is a great guitar teacher. We started our 16-year old with him, and he has been a patient and thorough teacher thus far. We have done only 3 lessons so far, but am happy with his style of teaching.

About

back in the early 90's, I took lots of lessons at Gryphon from various instructors, and what Ed taught me back then has probably had the greatest influence on my guitar playing to this day. He is brilliant at writing arrangements for guitar, everything from ragtime to rock to classical. Don't pass up the opportunity to learn from Ed. He will help you to improve (on guitar or in voice lessons) at a good pace that doesn't make you sick of the instrument--you'll absolutely look forward to your next lesson! The Bay Area is fortunate to have him still teaching after all these years.

About

For three months now I have been taking piano lessons with Craig and am amazed at how far my practice has come in such a short time. Craig's teaching style is personal, genuine, adaptive, fun, and highly encouraging. I greatly appreciate his piano wisdom and am inspired by his excitement for the art. If you are looking to truly explore an artform with a professional, Craig is the man!

I've been receiving yoga instruction from Courtney for over a year. She offers a warm and supportive environment while challenging you to build strength and test your comfort zone. The reason I enjoy yoga with Courtney so much is that she helps you to approach these challenges playfully. Because of her "just try" and "don't overthink it" mantras and willingness to help me modify, I have become the person practicing handstands during standard downward dog poses, after eight years of yoga and never enough courage! I'm so grateful to her, and happily traipse the Bay Area to attend her classes to suit my ever dynamic schedule. I highly recommend Courtney!

About

Our granddaughter Emily, has taken voice lessons with Brigitte since she was 8. At the time, no one else we talked to would take an 8 year old. Brigitte has been wonderful. Emily loves her lessons, has learned a lot and has grown so much in vocal range and styles. Brigitte's lessons are fun yet structured. She has a ongoing plan for vocal achievement and regularly schedules performances which encourages practicing and then shows off the benefits practicing. Emily has learned much more ...although she hasn't taken piano lessons, she is always at the piano trying to play a song she just heard or needs to work on for a show and she pretty much accomplishes the task. We are so pleased with Brigitte, that Emily's younger sister has started lessons now. We will be with Brigitte for several years.

I took guitar lessons from Mike for about nine months once a week. I was not good at English because I had just moved from Japan when I started the lessons. However, he was very kind and polite. I sometimes can't understand spoken English, so he wrote explanations for me, which was very helpful. I usually had lessons at his house. It was very comfortable. Also, his two cats were very cute. He not only taught me about how to enjoy playing the guitar and the instrument's depth and charm, but also reminded me how wonderful music is. I have to go back to Japan, but I'm going to continue to play the guitar and use what he taught me.

Holly responded quickly to all of my questions about piano lessons, her background, schedule, etc. She was more than willing to give me references from other families that have children taking lessons from her. My daughter is a beginner. We have been taking lessons with Holly for a month now and my daughter enjoys working with her and seems to be picking up the skills.

I hired John to teach a class of seniors a specific set of poses so they could perform the routine on their own afterwards and theoretically improve their bone density (Lu, Yi-Hsueh, et al. “Twelve-Minute Daily Yoga Regimen Reverses Osteoporotic Bone Loss.” Topics in Geriatric Rehabilitation 00 (2015): 1-7. DOI: 10.1097/TGR.0000000000000085). What a pathetic group we turned out to be! Two people are doing the entire class from a chair, a couple are morbidly obese, and a couple are still recovering from knee surgery. One man hasn't exercised in 20 years. John is unperturbed; he quietly adjusts to everyone's needs and limitations but structures the class so that those new to yoga begin to learn to listen to their body. He pays a lot of attention to breathing and will quietly and unobtrusively correct a person's pose if need be. Everyone loves the class, feels good afterwards, and looks forward to the next week. And we are learning the 10 poses!

Kenny interviewed me and helped me find a comfortable beginning into the world of music. I thought I was going to take guitar lessons; instead, he taught me music with a bit of guitar to go along, and opened up a whole new world of pleasure. Unfortunately for me, I haven't found time to get back to the structured lessons but I play every day because of the things Kenny taught me. I can't imagine a better, or more fun way to learn, than to sit with Kenny and give it a shot.

I was looking for a guitar teacher for my 10 year old son who is a beginner. Mario and the staff are friendly and helpful. We were able to pick a teacher and a time slot that worked for us. My son loves going to his lesson and his band practice. The bands are a great add on to enhance what is being taught in the lessons and its a fun way for the kids to practice their skills. We would recommend the Jam Center to anyone looking for a guitar or drum teacher.

Mostyn is an amazing guitar teacher with lots of enthusiasm and strong knowledge of guitar-playing. I can safely say that I'll probably be able to pick up most of my favorite songs in just a short few months of learning from Mostyn.
