Hi, I am a certified, highly qualified elementary school teacher in Arizona, grades K-8. I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University in 2001. I began substitute teaching and tutoring privately after college, which exposed me to a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. I have experience tutoring math, reading, and writing. I also have experience tutoring students with a variety of special needs, including ADHD and other learning disabilities. It was this that pushed me to receive my Master's degree in Educational Intervention from Ottawa University. This program taught me how to adapt my teaching to students' unique needs. During this time, I began teaching at an urban charter school in Phoenix as a Saturday School instructor in reading and writing for seventh- and eighth graders. The following year, I began teaching fourth grade at the same school. This continued for two years. In my final year there, I taught in the Elementary Special Education Department. In this situation, I excelled at making adaptations and modifications to ensure that all of my students were successful. After this, I worked as a fourth-grade teacher at another school, where I used my skills to ensure success once again. I have a disability, which helps me be a better teacher and tutor. I understand many of the frustrations that parents and students may feel when dealing with social and academic struggles that may be unique to some families. My own experiences help parents and students understand how to advocate and work with school systems to ensure student success, which is why I became an educator over 10 years ago. I am proud to be a role model for students and to teach them that everyone can be whatever they wish, as long as they want it badly enough! My teaching style can best be described as adaptable. Not every student learns the same way, so before I begin tutoring someone, I want to know as much as possible about the student so that I can use what they are good at to help them overcome their weaknesses. I will use hands-on, visual, and auditory input to stimulate a student's learning. I use manipulatives for math, and I am Orton-Gillingham certified for reading and spelling. I will always put a student's unique needs above everything else. I believe that this formula ensures success for all involved!See more
