I'm an intermediate level drummer who was seeking lessons to help bring my playing to the next level and I found Brian Fruechtenicht here on thumbtack. I have to say, having taken drum lessons before that this experience has been unlike any other. Brian's novel approach may seem unorthodox if you come into lessons with any preconceived notion of what drum lessons should be like, however his unique take on them (not to mention his enthusiasm) really conveys a lot of the practical knowledge that helps change good drummers into great drummers. In my own drumming, I feel like my style had become rote, but Brian helped me find more creativity behind the kit. I play for a band and I have to say even that sounds leagues better since beginning lessons with Brian Fruechtenicht, and those lessons tend to be some of the most fun I have all week. Brian Fruechtenicht gets a high recommendation from me!
Art gave drum lessons to my then 9 year old daughter. He was great! He was always punctual, came prepared, was patient with her, kept it fun and gave good, clear homework assignments. I highly recommend him.
I have been taking drum lessons from Steve Trovao for about a year and a half now. And am having the time of my life, I have seen Steve teach students as young as three and as old as me, Im 52. He is a versatile teacher in that he adapts to every students needs and has amazing patience. I have been learning the blues, and have seen Steve at many venues from rock, blues, jazz, swing, reggae and many more styles, in which he uses in his teaching. I am looking forward to continuing my education with Steve.
I am a bass player who has always played guitar here and there but nothing too serious, and about a year ago decided I really want to know the fundשmentals of guitar. A friend recommended Jacob Light, whom I've heard play before in local bands, and I decided to take the chance. I wasn't dissapointed to say the least. Jacob is a really down to earth guy who immediately understood my musical style and focused mainly on what I wanted to know, unlike other teachers I've had experience with. Even so, he knew what subjects to insist I learn, like improvisation. and scales. all this was done in a friendly, calm, cool yet persistent atmosphere which is just the right blend for learning, in my opinion.Soon enough I started feeling I really understand guitar, and this new kno'ledge even helped me with my bass guitar playing. Ive been taking guitar lessons with Jacon for 6 months and the only downdise I can think of is the fact he moved to California, otherwise I would have still take lessons from him, without a doubt.
I strongly recommend Diego as an excellent professor of piano, who really motivates students to develop their ability. He gave piano lessons to my older daughter for more than 5 years since she was in high school, until some months ago. I am very grateful to Diego for encouraging Almudena, my daughter, to find a way of expressing herself through music.
I have been taking guitar lessons at the studio since it opened. The facility is amazing and all instructors I have met are friendly, professional musicians. I love taking lessons here because they are tailored to fit my style and goals. I would and do recommend the studio to students of any age/ skill level.
It would have been nice to have more information about the actual teacher who would be coming to the house. I took it on blind faith that he was a good teacher and a normal person. There was no resume or bio or picture or anything. Turns out, Adam seems great (2 lessons so far). But more info would have been helpful.
I have taken guitar lessons from Chris for quite a while. He is a joy to work with and has developed his own customized approach to teaching. He is amazingly talented and makes learning easy and fun. Sadly I must keep my day job, but that isn't Chris's fault! Scott A.
I was in a restaurant a couple of years ago and recognized Warren as the drummer in a Black Sabbath cover band I had seen a couple of times. He mentioned he is teaching and initially I thought I'd ask him to help me with a couple of their songs. The lessons evolved into very helpful instruction on counting, rudiments, syncopation and general skills to improve my playing. He is an enthusiastic teacher and is very flexible with what we cover from lesson to lesson. I have definitely seen an improvement in my skills in the time we have worked together.
I was skeptical initially when going online to seek a professional drum instructor for my son. Thumbtack made this process an experience parallel to buying an item from Amazon online. It was easy and I got immediate results.
Mike was an excellent teacher of the drums and I highly recommend him to anyone starting to learn how to drum. He is skilled in conga drums along with standard kits.
Great drum instructor! Really focuses on getting timing down. Kevin does not waste time during the lesson. I hear drums for the whole hour!
Great instructor. Thorough and knowledgable. I played two drum beats on my first drum lesson and I had never played drums before. I progressed rapidly and after 6 months can comfortably play with a band.
Alex is one in a million! He teaches music through a structural perspective rather than by the more traditional method of learn a note here, learn a note there (I haven't played the piano since I was a child, but I still cringe at the memory of the tedious and monotonous scales, finger exercises and simplified classical pieces I used to have to play). Alex's lessons are anything but tedious, and, even though I am essentially a beginner (having forgotten everything I learned as a child), I feel like I am well on my way to having a deeper understanding of what I am playing because I have a developing understanding how it works. I feel like I am learning the language of music through total immersion rather than by the textbook method of learning how to read the notes. I now listen to and hear music differently, and there is much I am learning on my own. I am especially pleased with the way Alex tailors my lessons around what I want to do rather than what he thinks I should do. As a result, I am learning to play jazz piano rather the stuff I was forced to play as a child (unless I want to, of course, in which case he would teach me that). And the best part (as if it could get better)? Alex is so enthusiastic about what he does that it is contagious and makes working with him a sheer joy. There is not much I look forward to and enjoy more than my lessons with Alex. Needless to say, I highly recommend Alex Balmaceda for anyone who is interested in learning more about music than simply reading and playing the notes.
I am a drummer with over 10-plus years of experience in all music types. I have experiences in several bands and can teach all levels (beginners to advanced).

Hey, folks! I'm Nick, a touring and recording drummer from Oakland who has played and still plays all around the world. Drumming is my favorite thing to do. Check out my super extensive music resume at my website. I teach drums privately in my Oakland studio, at some of my students' homes, at the School of Rock at both of the Bay Area locations in San Francisco and San Mateo (these kids are amazing!), I teach as a substitute at the Academy of Language and Music Arts in Orinda, CA, and is exploring music in San Jose. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all music teaching. With that in mind, I tailor my lessons to each individual student's needs and interests. We start with the kind of music that you love most, and we slowly work outward from there, expanding the concepts. I've played and taught jazz (everything, from swing to seriously advanced Elvin Jones and Tony Williams' jazz drumming), hip-hop, R&B, indie rock, metal (blast beats and double bass), Afro-Beat (Gnawa rhythms, etc.), Southern Indian music, experimental and improvised playing, etc. We'll work on whatever you really want to do. Do you want to just learn the basics? Okay! Do you want to learn to play for fun in a garage band? Great! Do you want to be the next drummer for Slayer? Awesome! Do you want to learn drums, so you can produce better hip-hop beats on your MPC? Let's do it!
