Lori and Nancy are great - ready to assist with our Vizsla Crosby at a moments notice, and always very punctual. Crosby love the play time and attention he gets from the sitters at Coco and Boo - highly recommended!

When we moved to La from the east coast, we needed an overnight dog sitter but didn't know anyone here. And really didn't trust just any sitter with our 2 danes. We had to fly back east a few times and had no choice but to leave them with someone. Luckily we found Miki! She has watched them and has walked them several times now and we couldn't be happier. The dogs, love her and she took great care of them. Really didn't want to write this review because we want Miki all to our selves. :-)

Melinda is all we could ever ask for in a pet sitter and more! Not only is she very easy to communicate with but she treats our dogs like they are her own. We never have to worry about anything when we travel. Melinda moves right in when we need to head out and takes care of not only our dogs, but she also gets our mail, waters our plants and makes sure our property remains secure while we are gone. She is extra cautious of the food allergies that exist in our house as well. Whether our travel takes us to the other side of the world, the other side of the country, or just a couple hours away we know we can trust Melinda has things covered. The pictures and videos we receive from Melinda while we travel are an added plus, especially for a mom like me that has trouble leaving her “babies”. You also can’t beat coming home to a clean house and happy pets! Our two huskies can get a bit upset when they know we are leaving, but when Melinda comes over they are totally fine with us leaving. If she can handle our two crazy huskies I am sure she can handle anything!

I was very nervous about hiring a new pet sitter, as I recently moved to LA and did not know who to call. After meeting Susan at Tails R Waggin', my fears were alleviated immediately. She was kind, professional, punctual, and obviously loved her job. I just returned from my first trip. The attention that Susan paid to my three cats is beyond compare. They are typically shy and hide but they instantly took to her, a feat that has never happened in the nine years I have had them. The care to my home was equally impressive!! (I came home to find my house looking better than when I left.) You cannot go wrong with Tails R Waggin. Use with confidence and know that your furry loved ones will be in great hands!

We are so glad we picked Jenny as our dog pet sitter! She took care of our dog for 4 days while we were traveling. She was very attentive and kind with our boy and was always sending pictures and messages. Which helped us to see how he was doing. One thing that really amazed us is that our dog was trained in portuguese and Jenny learned somethings just so he could understand her better! Our dog was very happy under Jenny's care and that's the most important part for us. We sure recommend her services.

I love Robin! She does an amazing job with my pets. I have several dogs and cats (seniors and special needs animals) and I NEVER worry about them while I am away. Robin does a fantastic job taking care of everyone and my house while I'm gone. And as an added bonus she takes the most amazing pictures of your pets and sends daily updates! I would highly recommend Robin as a great pet sitter!

Chelsey Frost provides custom equestrian lessons, English, Western, dressage, gymkhana, trail, and others to improve your relationship with your horse or one of hers. Although she also teaches children, I am an adult rider who appreciates her expertise and her flexibility in scheduling lessons that fit with my sometimes erratic available times.

Natalie has watched our two maltipoos a handful of times and is now the only dog sitter we use! We absolutely LOVE her and highly recommend her. She is so attentive and so kind and caring. She sends us pictures of our pups when we’re away and keeps us up to date on how they are doing. She has a dog of her own and I was nervous as one of our dogs is not very friendly with other dogs. However, Natalie made the transition smooth and has helped make sure my dog is comfortable and handles it perfectly. She is extremely flexible with when we drop the pups off and when we pick up, which is soo convenient. Overall she’s the best dog sitter we have had, and I’m so thankful we found her!!

One week after we adopted our 1-year old mini-pinscher, my housemate had to go away on business for a week, and I still needed to go to my 9-5 job, so I was desperate to find a good pet-sitter to come by to walk Russo and spend a little bit of time with him each day. I met Linda through Thumbtack. She came over on Sunday to meet Russo and agreed to come by the next day through Friday to walk him and spend some time with him at our home. She was awesome!! I really like that she would send me a text while I was at work, letting me know how things went, which greatly put my mind at ease. We so appreciated the great service that we have continued to hire Linda to pet sit. She is very intuitive about determining what Russo needs to feel comfortable and sometimes stays a little longer with him, as needed. I really like and appreciate that she has Russo's best interests in mind and that she continues to communicate how the visit went. It might seem like a little thing, but to me that's huge!

I had used a trainer with limited success and was frustrated by the experience. I was referred to Bark to Basics by a colleague who experienced great results by working with Melissa at Bark to Basics. We had the same great outcome. She worked with us to help us better understand our dogs responses to us. We tried Bark to Basics rewards based approach and it worked. We learned so much about dog behavior and responses from Melissa. We as pet parents, required more training than our dog! Melissa also is a pet sitter which helped reinforce our training while we were away.

What can I say about Annie. My four boxer girls are absolutely in love with her. At the mere mention of Annie's name they are at the garage waiting for her arrival every morning. Whether my boxer girls are being walked or Annie is sitting with them I know that they are safe and secure. I would recommend Annie in a heartbeat to anyone. Annie he is not just a dog walker or a sitter she is much more. The care, compassion and love that she has for my boxer girls is amazing. My boxer girls deserve the best and Annie is the best!!

Christopher and Terri are great. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a dog sitter. The best pet sitters are dog owners, dog people. Safely first. They have a nice yard, and better still is they they have dogs in house as well. Zippy had a great adventure and on 2nd and 3rd time, just joined the other dogs and seemed very happy when I dropped her off and picked her up. They are the only pet sitters I would use. Appreciated the texts and pictures they sent while I was out of town, so much better than previous experiences and stories I have heard! Reasonable cost and it seemed more like having a close relative or trusted friend in charge of my pet, especially since she is so spoiled. It was a good experience for both of us, stress free.

By far, the best equestrian trainer I've ever had. She is a true professional, demanding but fun, detailed but flexible, who knows how to push your limits while getting the best out of your abilities. I can notice my progress after every single class. She doesn't cookie cut your training (or your horse) and tailors your advancement based on your goals, past experiences, and capabilities. Always making sure that you're enjoying every minute of your lesson. I feel so lucky to be able to train with Rhiannon. She's one in a million!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32.
