Bruce quickly responded to my request for a hot water heater repair, was at my house in under 60 mins on a Saturday. After an honest assessment that the whole heater needed to be replaced (my GE model was discontinued), Bruce was able to remove and install a new heater (with new valves, pipes, insulation, sediment trap) in under 4 hours. Very impressed, he’s definitely my new go-to guy!!

In the process of removing a water heater from the kitchen, they nicked my tile. They offered to cover the cost of the floor tile, which is what I truly do appreciate .This is why I rate them a four out of five stars.

All In One Plumbing & Drains, Inc. removed and disposed of our old water heater at a $35 charge, they got the permit for us at a $50 charge plus the cost of the permit at City Hall, they picked up and transported the new water heater from Orchard Hardware, around 2 miles at a $35 charge and installed the water heater in around 4 1/2 hours and it passed inspection by the City the next day. Cesar and his apprentice were very courteous and friendly and did a good job and the only complaint I have about their service is the final price. The Thumbtack.com price they advertised online was $225 but the final price turned out to be $700, over 3 times what they advertised. I would have left off one more star in the rating but they are still cheaper than Sears and the other licensed contractors that quoted us prices on Thumbtack. A couple of the handymen on Thumbtack quoted less of a price but there's no guarantee with someone that's not a licensed and bonded contractor. I don't know what these quotes on Thumbtack are based on and I forgot to ask them about it but these people need to be more honest about their final estimates since $225 plus $120 plus the permit price of $47 doesn't equal $700 dollars.

Frank came and diagnosed the problem with the water heater. Alas, I needed a new hot water heater, he recommended the brand I should get, purchased it, and then returned to my house to install it. He had to remove the old one prior to installing the new one. His father worked with him to remove the old water heater, and the new one was installed. He worked diligently on the installation. So far, everything is working well!!

We were originally quoted $2,000 to replace a water heater. Of course I knew this was exorbitant and in no way where we going to pay this. At this point, I came across Allan. Allan went above and beyond what I would have expected. He picked up, paid for, and delivered the water heater to us! Of course I reimbursed him after the job was completed. Who does that? At any rate, we communicatedand flawlessly though text during the initial transaction. He also did it the same day that our water heater went out which was on a Saturday! Needless to say-and by all the reviews he has-Allan and his team are a breath of fresh air among the the somewhat flaky world of contractors.

James was FANTASTIC! Very knowledgeable and straight forward. He spent time educating me about how to perform maintenance on our new water heater in order to prolong its life. He also told me about how to keep the angle stops for the faucets inside. He wants to save his customers costly repairs...WHO DOES THAT? NO ONE! Except James...he does. OUTSTANDING! I WILL definitely without question use him for ANY plumbing needs AND I will HIGHLY recommend him to anyone. Thanks James...you were GREAT!

Kris, has repaired many different things in my house. He has always been punctual, honest, and professional. The last time he was at my house he came out to replace my hot water heater and Ihad to work. I am so comfortable with him that I left the door open, I came home to hot water! As a matter of fact I never ran out of hot water, all I had to do is text him the night previous and less than 12 hours later I had a whole new unit installed. Hi highly recommend Kristian's appliance!

To start off, my House was build in the 50’s and the pipes haven’t been changes since so you can imagine how many times I’ve been in need of a plumber since we moved in. Free flo has been my go to since buying my house almost 7 years ago. Here’s a short list of some of the services they have provided throughout the years: emergency toilet backup. Emergency Clogged shower. Dishwasher back flow. A burst pipe. Plumbing around the pool, and a few more backed up toilet issues. Every time I call them, they are friendly, prompt, and fairly priced. I don’t generally like to leave reviews for any product or service, but I had to share their last visit to my house because they need to recognized for being so exceptional. I recently noticed water was running under my dryer after I would use the steam cycle. I used the extended warranty to request service directly from company. After two separate attempts, they told me that they couldn’t figure out the problem and it was probably a plumbing issue. So once again, I call Free Flo and within an hour, Ben was at my house. Ends up, the issue was with the machine after all. There was a twisted tube, which he simply undid and BAM no more leaks. It took him a mere five minutes to get it all done. Because I’m a regular, and it’s something the repair man should have taken care of, they gave me that visit on the house. I’ll be replacing all the pipes in my house shortly, and it’s no question who I’ll hire for the job. Thank you Free Flo. I am forever your loyal customer.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

How much do new water heaters cost?

The cost of a new water heater depends largely on the type and size of the heater. The average national cost for a new water heater installation including a 40- to 50-gallon tank is $350-$780. Most homes don’t need larger tanks, but they are available — for a price. The average difference between a 50-gallon tank and a 75-gallon tank (the next most common size) ranges from $400 to $600. Hundred-gallon tanks are also available, and they can cost double or triple the price of a 50-gallon tank from the same manufacturer. New water heaters tend to be far more energy-efficient, so they can cut energy costs; homeowners may also be eligible for a new water heater rebate from their local utility company.

Typically, tankless water heaters, which heat water only when you need it, cost more but can save about 25 percent of annual water heating costs, on average. They also lose only 5 percent of their energy compared with a tank unit’s 30 percent energy loss. Note, too, that a water heater with a tank has a life expectancy of 10 years, while tankless units generally last about twice as long.

The final expense to consider is a possible disposal fee to get rid of the old water heater; some companies include it in the price, while others charge an average of $35-$150.
