Celia teaches my 7 year old son Spanish. She comes at a regular time every week and works with him on various activities to teach him Spanish in a fun way. My little guy looks forward to his Spanish lessons with Celia and that to me speaks volumes. He is happy while learning and that makes me very happy indeed. I highly recommend Celia's Spanish lessons to the young and old.(show less)
I have recently studied Spanish with Luisa for about two years. During that time, my skills in Spanish have significantly improved. In addition to a Masters Degree in Spanish, what sets her apart is her ability to communicate to the student the knowledge that she possesses. She is simply an outstanding teacher. I higher recommend her to anyone who is serious about learning or improving their Spanish skills. Tony Castaneda Attorney At Law(show less)
We would like to thank Jan for her professionalism and her kindness. My wife and I had great English lessons with Jan for one month in LA. Jan managed to make the lessons very interesting mixing general conversations and specific grammar rules, idioms and vocabulary teaching. We were so happy with our experience with Jan that once back home, we decided to continue our lessons remotely via skype video, a way to benefit from Jan's great teaching experience anywhere in the world . We strongly recommend Jan .(show less)
I tutor mainly high school students in Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, Spanish, English, study and organizational skills, and psychology. I do side-by-side tutoring that focuses on the student's current course content. I identify problem areas and relative strengths. I then foster those strengths while fortifying the problem areas that have left the student confused. Once they are caught up, I manage their progress through homework assistance and providing additional explanation and practice as needed. I then work ahead with my students when possible so that they can learn from me and review with their teacher. This proves to be very effective on preparing them for their future classes, already having a grasp on the material. I have been tutoring for 6 years while working on my doctorate in Psychology. I can either come to your home or meet in a public place.(show less)

Malibu A Plus Tutor, LLC is dedicated to helping you achieve high-academic honors performance at school and succeed at work with our speed reading-proven system taught and approved in The White House. We provide multiple-subject tutoring, educational services, seminars, and one-on-one tutoring as well as group tutoring. Our rates and prices for one-on-one private tutoring at the comfort of your home is $100. We offer six-week group session courses for as low as $400. We provide scholarships to help afford tuition and may cover up to 70% of total tuition, e.g., one-on-one tutoring session can be as low as $30 an hour if the student is enrolled for a 36-hour tutoring package. The following are what our students are saying: "Before taking my first A Plus Tutor Premier Speed Reading class, I was reading one book a month. Two hours into the first session, my reading speed doubled, from 308 to 687 words per minute with a 100% comprehension rate. It only took me 58 minutes to read an entire book from cover to cover, and I still remember what the book is all about. Thanks, Jose! You're the best." -- Vivian Sampson, Administrative Assistant at USC "Reading as a means to acquire new knowledge is one of my deepest passions. It led to my success as an UCLA undergraduate and a full-time research assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. However, I was concerned about my ability to tackle excessive amounts of reading as an economics Ph.D. student at UC Berkeley. I am grateful for the opportunity to have trained with A Plus Tutor -- based in Malibu, which provided me with the means and skills to read efficiently and effectively (with full comprehension) at an outstanding reading rate. My reading rate was 220 words per minute however, after concluding three hours of one-on-one private lessons directly from Jose Angel Manaiza, Jr., my average reading rate increased to 640 words per minute! I am now confident that I am fully prepared to go through all my required textbooks and reading assignments with full comprehension in a timely manner. I am confident that I will excel in all of my coursework and earn top grades. Most importantly, I am looking forward to an unwavering success in every step of my academic journey. I highly recommend that anyone take either a one-hour free seminar offered at Los Angeles Public Libraries or the private group course at the Malibu Golf Club or the one-on-one private sessions in the comfort of their own home. A Plus Tutor will help you achieve your academic and professional goals in becoming an effective reader." -- Chris Jauregui, Ph.D. Candidate at UC Berkeley "As an advanced speed reader, I felt I wasn't going to reach my lofty goal of one book per day rather than one book per week. Although I was confident in my ability to read at a fast pace, I was uncertain if reading faster was going to limit what I was able to fully retain or comprehend. Then I enrolled in "The Effective Reading Seminar" facilitated by Jose Angel Manaiza, Jr., founder of A Plus Tutor in Malibu. It changed my whole perspective on speed reading. This seminar reopened my love of reading. The teachings of this course, based on the same principles used by President John F. Kennedy, include valuable lessons, such as "The 90 Degree Sitting Position" and how to calculate my reading rate applying "The Evelyn Wood Speed Reading System." Within the course of the seminar, my reading and comprehension rates skyrocketed from 475 words per minute to 1,000 words per minute! What I found to be most rewarding is my transition from being an advanced speed reader to becoming an effective speed reader. Jose's teachings are proven methods that when used wisely, are guaranteed to produce positive results in one's reading and comprehension capabilities. To date, I am pleased with my new ability to read and comprehend 100% and have reached my lofty goal of being able to read a book per day. Thank you Jose." -- Frank Rivas, Real Estate Professional "This system works for everyone at all times, whether you're a staff in The White House, a student in Malibu or a business professional. I went from 312 wpm to 728 wpm with 100% reading comprehension rate in less than 30 minutes. A Plus Tutor is a proud member of The Malibu Chamber of Commerce, and we are glad that Mr. Jose Angel Manaiza, Jr. is now offering his one-hour free effective reading seminar and private group course on the regular basis to benefit our members, chamber, and Malibu as a whole by helping individuals increased their reading and comprehension rate to enhance high-academic honors performance for local students in Malibu and Pepperdine University and better work productivity and business growth for working professionals." -- Mark Persson, Executive Director of The Malibu Chamber of Commerce.(show less)
