We have had the pleasure of dealing with Joe for numerous personal as well as business photo shoots. Every personal shoot we have done has been roughly an hour and the professional shoots have varied based on requirement (event coverage). The locations are always based on our personal preference to which he has been more than happy to accommodate to. If we don’t know what we want, he’s been great about suggesting locations to obtain the best scenery and overall feel to suit our needs. Having dealt with around 5 or 6 previous photographers, I have to say that Joe is the only one that I would recommend. He was highly professional, courteous, offered extremely quick turnaround, and an end product that I have always been extremely happy with. I have to say we were impressed when he pulled out his iPad and opened a reference book to help us with different poses. He explained to us what the concept was behind each pose and which ones were more popular or common and which ones were less seen. He excels at capturing the emotion of the shoot rather than just the image itself. It becomes apparent what I mean when you see portraits that feel forced and bland, like no one wanted to be there. We always have fun during our shoots and I believe it really reflects in the end result. All summed up, I’d definitely recommend Joe Chung Photography if you ever photography services. He really goes above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction with all of the pictures he provides. He is professional, courteous, and offers a high quality product that I have always been satisfied with. If you need photography, you need a great photographer, and that’s exactly what he is.

Mark is professional and wonderful to work with. My wedding video is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. Throughout the wedding ceremony and reception we never noticed him, however the video looks as if he was right next to us the entire time. Mark is a wonderful family man and has very high ethical standards. I would recommend him to anyone.

Creative Deviants was in charge of all of the cameras, photography, and lighting for my music video shoot, and we were able to shoot four different sets all in one day because of their hard work. The day was smooth and fun, and the post process is so much easier thanks to everything CD was able to achieve!

Steve is a consumate professional, really easy to work with, and I felt like I received great value from his services above and beyond what I had hoped for. He arrived on time and we were able to begin immediately after make-up and hair were finished. I felt comfortable talking to him and requesting special things as well as relied on him for his directional expertise. When we wrapped, I knew I had enough film for my video, and even more than I had anticipated. I will be using Steve again in the future. I highly recommend his services! Karin

JOB: Videography of Large Live Multi-Artist Concert Event (incl Pre-Show / Concert / Post-Show). What an extraordinary pleasure it was to watch our 20 minute highlight video from Marabate Studios! I knew it would be super important to have a video because everyone had told me how fast it goes and how it's so hard to remember anything. That said, it was even better than I had imagined. In fact, it made my new husband cry! I am forever grateful that we made this decision, and I highly recommend you do the same.

I searched for a while to find videographers I could feel comfortable with. I knew as soon as I spoke with Erica and Laura on the phone that they were the ones. I could tell from their enthusiasm and how much they were able to listen that they would make me feel at ease the day of my wedding. Everyone loved them and commented on their positive energy and also how they were so courteous and polite. My favorite shots in our video were some great closeups they took during the ceremony. The video was edited very nicely and in a fun way and included guest interviews which added a nice personal touch. We must have watched it 20 times in the week we got it and relived each moment together. They got it to us faster than expected and we were both very happy. My husband and I were not sure if we even wanted video at first, but now feel this was one of the most important decisions we made. I would definitely recommend The Vision Field.

Great working with Mike at Studio M. We had an extra challenge as I had to manage the project remotely but he took care of everything as my point person for the shoots. Rate was very affordable and provided a nonprofit discount. Quality of photos and video were excellent with little artistic direction from me. Very easy to work with editing videos in two languages. Looking forward to working together again.

Scott and his crew did an amazing job for our wedding which was both audio and lighting heavy. Not only was he always quick to respond to my emails, but always willing to offer advice in helping me develop the look I was going for. Due to the nature of the venue, the set and strike needed to be done very quickly and they nailed it. Highly recommend!!

My wife and I just got married 9/8/17 and could not be happier with our wedding video. Meena (Sohi Productions) captured every special moment of our day. I barely even knew she was there. Let me say that she was there from start to end and for my wife and I we thought the day just flew by. At the end I was just getting ready to party and it was over that's what happens when you are the ones getting married but the video she produced let's me live the best day of our lives over and over. I could honestly say this video could not have been made better it is just perfect!!! It is so worth it to get Meena to capture anyone's special day weather it's a wedding, b day, you name it she will take care of you 100%. She is fun, energetic, creative, and just very talented. She absalutely has a passion for it for sure. I would hire Meena again and plan to in future events. If you are thinking money, or negotiating with yourself on if it's worth it let me tell you YES it is. I have watched out video like 200 times seriously and I get lost in my wife and I love story. The way she captured us looking at eachother in moments I didn't even know she was filming, to see the love I have for my wife and to see the video is just a reminder on the best decision I've ever made. Thank you Meena you are not only someone we met for business but you are apart of our love story and now can call you a friend. You did an amazing job and we couldn't be happier. You are a professional at heart.!! If you want to see how amazing her video was check out our wedding on YouTube (Andino wedding). Be prepared to be blown away... 100% referring Sohi Productions.

The team sent down to take photos of a friends property in Orange County were fantastic...Kevin made sure the weather was suitable for the kind of shot we were going for, ahead of time and was well equipped with multiple drones and safety gear. They were knowledgable and precise with their work ethic. I'd certainly give them another call in the future. If you need great aerial photos and vids, these are your guys!

I first met Jordan Horn at Paramount Pictures in 2013 where he was interning at the time. I could tell immediately Jordan a dedicated and determined individual. I was campaigning as Miss Los Angeles for Donald Trump's MISS CALIFORNIA USA pageant. I was in need of a video reel, and photos for my portfolio. Not only did he photograph headshots, lifestyle, and catalogue photos; he also edited them and shot video during the shoot which he edited and crafted into a beautiful reel. The content I received was professional and I still use these today. I still reach out to Jordan for other projects when he's available, watching the progress he's made is inspiring. He's an incredible editor and cinematographer and has worked for Emmy award winning studios and done editing for Primetime shows like the Ellen Show, Dr. Oz, Monopoly Millionaire's Club and more, all while still pursuing independent projects. Jordan has an outstanding work ethic. The efforts he puts into his work is relentless. I highly suggest hiring him for your projects. I guarantee you will be more than pleased the results he yields, In my experiences working with him he won't stop until you are satisfied with your project.

I can't say enough good things about KKO Productions. His professional experience blew me away. I hired them to shoot a cover video for me. I wrote a rock version of Drake's "Hotline Bling", in which I play every instrument. I had no ideas on concept for the cover video.. He conceptualized everything on the spot and executed it flawlessly! The video looks amazing and they made me look so cool!!! My friends and family can't believe it's me in the video.. Heck, I can't believe it's me!!! Thank you, KKO! This video went so well, I hired him to do another music video.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
